Has anyone used Sparkle Athletic visors? I’m looking at their Minnie Mouse pattern for the marathon but am not sure how sweat absorbent they are. Or does anyone have a good visor rec with Disney patterns? I usually use the Gone for a Run visors @Naomeri recommended and will use plain black if I can’t find any other options.

I use the Sparkle Visors and they seem pretty absorbent. My head does get a little tired of them after a few hours, compared to the Gone For a Run soft visors, but not to the point of irritation or anything

They are made from Headsweats visors. I usually wear a Bondi Band underneath it, just because I always do.

I wanted to love the Sparkle Athletic and Headsweats visors, but they were too big on me and slipped down when I ran, even with a headband underneath. YMMV but they are not adjustable and that was an issue for my child-size head.

I’m considering buying a tennis dress for a sleeping beauty and they’re on sale rn. Do I go for a darker blue, lighter blue, or purple? Pros of the purple is that it’s unique, but people might not understand that I’m doing pink+blue, and I could reuse it for rapunzel. But the blues would be more movie accurate. What do yall think?

I think the dark blue looks like the right color. I agree that the purple would be unique, but potentially confusing.

My skirts for Dopey arrived!

• White sparkle athletic skirt (medium as the small has been OOS forever). I actually prefer the coverage of this one as it covers my shorts underneath better. The waist is a tiny bit loose but won't fall down or anything, just can't hike it up too high
  • Planning to wear a white top and my Marie ears from Tokyo Disney so this will probably be for the 5k or 10k as those ears are a bit heavy
  • 
• The small world sparkle athletic skirt (small) is adorable! More vibrant than in my picture. The sizing is significantly smaller than the medium, I prefer the fit on the waist on this one but wouldn't have minded the length of the medium.
  • If anyone else is new to sparkle athletic skirts (probably not anyone here but if there are lurkers ) overall I found the size chart pretty accurate and if you are between sizes I would probably size down for waist, or take the larger size if you want more coverage
  • This is a possibility for the marathon
• The Donald Dottie skirt is adorable! I have never had a Dottie skirt and saw they run large and so I gambled on purchasing a NWT skirt from marketplace as this was sold out
  • Size chart goes out the window, I am usually a small or medium in bottoms and I took an XS here and am glad I did, it's still plenty roomy and comparable to the M sparkle athletic skirt
  • I love the no-tulle option, I think the Dottie skirts are gorgeous but I would probably chafe to heck and back with the tulle ones
  • It's not too heavy so I'm hoping it will stay in place pretty well - probably will wear for the half and unless it's a million degrees, I don't think chafing at the waist will be an issue (will try to wear over my shorts waistband and bring pins if I need them if it rides up)

I do not abide by the nothing new rule so we'll see if I pay the price I do always carry a mini stick of body glide with me

Pooh will make an re-appearance at whichever other race I don't wear the skirts. I find the ears super comfortable and have done 10ks in them, I think I'd be totally fine for the half in them but not sure I'd risk it for the marathon. Plus I wouldn't wear those shorts past a half distance (and definitely not past the 10k if it's really hot). I did get a yellow sparkle skirt but I don't love the look of it compared to the shorts so Pooh may just get the 10k, again! Lol

I need to make one of these birds, so I can wire it onto the button on the top of a hat for the half. And I need it to be super light-weight.

DH is thinking craft foam and paint for the body and then cardstock or similar for the wings/tail and probably paint for the eyes and beak.

I agree, except I’m nervous about trying to carve that much foam. Anyone else have any good ideas for this?

Also, hat is ready, minus some hippo ears that I need to pick up fabric for still (and maybe some nostrils on the bill of the hat??) Here’s hoping the vinyl sticks well to the canvas of the hat and it doesn’t rain!

I need to make one of these birds, so I can wire it onto the button on the top of a hat for the half. And I need it to be super light-weight.

For the bird, look for floral foam or styrofoam forms. I know they sell them at Michaels. They make round and oblong shapes in multiple sizes that you could easily carve down if needed. They can be held together with dowels, chopsticks, toothpicks and a dot of hot glue in key spots. You can also paint or spray them. I'd use that for the bird body, pipe cleaners for the legs/feet and heavy construction paper or craft felt for the wings/beak. The felt will hold up better if it rains.

This should work out well for me to go check there since DH has an appointment this afternoon and Michaels is only 5min from the dr office. DH has tons of scrap wire (the benefit of being married to an electrician!) so I'm sure I can find something in his piles that will work well. I was JUST thinking about felt working well for the ears since it should have the stiffness I need without having to deal with interfacing or batting! Great idea for the bird details as well!

I've looked at a ton of pics and video of that scene for my own costume, and I'd bet with 90% certainty that it is magenta.

The first thing I thought of when looking at the bird was a ping pong ball and a mini liquor bottle. I’m sure the styrofoam would be easier to work with, though. Your costume pieces look great!

Michaels should have foam balls of about the right size, and I know they have cone shapes, but I don't remember if they have small ones, but if they do, that should minimize the amount of carving needed to get the bird body shape. Otherwise, @MissLiss279 had a good idea of using a small bottle, which Michael's may also have.

Another option for the wings is a foam sheet or I think they do sell feathers at Michaels.

I've been hard at work on props for the Springtime Surprise 5K (despite the fact I haven't done my accessories for MW yet ) The reason is: the Springtime 5K is my grandma's Christmas surprise, so I wanted to have everything ready to show off to her. We'll be going as Captain America (her) and Captain Carter (me) I got custom printed dresses (on a BOGO sale, so that was awesome) and I bought a couple Captain America shields on Halloween clearance, but they needed to be repainted.

The dresses (these are the mockups from the printing site, but they turned out just like this)


The shields:
Obviously, the most work went into the Captain Carter shield, since I needed to add a layer of modeling paste to the center because the star is raised from the surface. The Captain America shield just needed sanding to remove finish/roughen the surface, priming with gesso, and repainting. That mirror finish would've looked terrible in pictures, as you can see from the reflections of me and my art studio.


This was my reference picture for the shield designs, though I went with the retro colors for Captain America.

You’ve already got a couple of good ideas but thought I might as well chime in that my first idea for the bird bodies was small balloons. They’d definitely be lightweight. You might not want to put them together though until MW which could be a hassle.

Yes. I like them. They absorb sweat but tend to be tight on me and sometimes cause headaches. They loosen over time.
