The Updated and All-Inclusive Costume Thread

I tried out my marathon outfit on Saturday. The shirt and shorts were known quantities, but it was my first time running with a skirt, and I loved it! It was so lightweight that I barely felt it. I’m going to have to look for more skirts from that vendor at the expo. (My actual marathon shirt will have writing on it, and should be delivered today!)

I asked for a plain black visor for Christmas, and hopefully I have one in my stocking. Or else I’ll be ordering one afterward. 🤣

Took advantage of a slow day at work to finish out my costumes! This first one is for the Half, inspired by our group Small World theme and this guy from the ride. I used Cricut removable vinyl and it is sticking great to the REI discount bin Patagonia shirt and Bolder (formerly Sparkle) skirt! (And yes, I do have a pink parasol to carry.)

I used some more vinyl, felt, pipe cleaners and a glue gun for the visor, and for the visor to go with my Mahomes/Kermit mashup for the marathon. I'm SUPER happy with how it all turned out!

Too cute!!

If anyone is looking for a cute last-minute costume for MW, Disney just dropped this Minnie-inspired athletic dress online. Poly/spandex with "built in bodysuit with pockets". I grabbed one for the parks or potentially future races and will post a review when it arrives. https://www.disneystore.com/minnie-mouse-exercise-dress-for-women-451013662226.html

The Minnie dress arrived and it is actually cute! It's a bit thick -- like swimsuit material and the "body suit" underneath lines the entire thing from the bust (with removable pads - ugh) down to shorts underneath. The shorts have two big thigh pockets and silicone bands on the insides of the legs.

I'm only 5'1" but I love the length and the shorts are just a tiny bit shorter than the skirt. I'm short-waisted so you can see from the back shot that it bunches a bit in the torso on me, but ymmv. Not a ton of support on top for running, but it would work for someone who walks, with a sports bra underneath, or as park wear. I think this will be park wear for me as it's a bit thick and heavy for running. The quality is definitely worth the $59 price tag, though it always bugs me when they don't bother to pattern match the back.

Some try-on pics. For reference I typically am a size 4-6 and this is the small:

Super cute!

Okay today I tested out everything. Specific all with the cold weather coming trying out with all the things that I need for cold weather.

My 5k outfit: Sven from Frozen

My 10k outfit: Bloofy from Inside Out 2 my fav part is having dinomite in my Pouchy too

My 1/2 Marthon outfit: Small World clock tower themed

Not sure about the head band... it was the best match I could do and I hate my ears being cold.

My Marathon outfit: Dopey themed

I am ready for the cold weather weekend!

Small world clocks unite! I wanted the circle piece to attach to my shirt and "tick tock" but I decided I will just hold it so I can toss if it if gets too annoying. I added the face to my shirt too so the costume will still make sense if I ditch the white piece. Only my second cricut attempt and I'm fairly pleased, although the mouth on my shirt is a bit off center. I still need to work on my hat.

I'm rethinking my 5k costume. Onesies fit within the new costume guidelines, right? Thinking I might borrow my son's chicken onesie. This might be my best chance to run as Clara Cluck.

Yes, and would be nice and toasty warm I would think. But consider how you might have to hold it and contort yourself in a porta potty should the need arise. I'd definitely practice that!

Good call, and not something I had considered. I'd have to be mindful of how hard the under layers were to manage with an armful of onesie, too.

I need a few HONEST opinions here please!

First, for the 5K. With the cold weather, I really can't easily layer the Merida Crowned outfit I was going to wear. I can do leggings under the skirt (dark blue) but I'll pretty much have to cover the top if I don't want to freeze. I have this great lightweight flannel Merida shirt I could wear over it. It does not really match AT ALL (though it does match the blue in the leggings. Do I just ditch the Crowned entirely and wear the leggings with the flannel? Or do I attempt to save the skirt and/or bra like this?

OKAY now for the marathon. Do I dump the Kermit/Mahomes mashup and just go for the KC jersey? I'm concerned either nobody will get it, or if they do they will think I'm trolling and not a Chiefs fan). I'm also thinking of adding some vinyl to the jersey (a goat cutout, etc) to make it more obvious I'm a fan.

If I dump the mashup, my options are the lulu Disney leggings with the red/yellow logos (which would require a spibelt to hold my stuff)...
Screenshot 2025-01-03 at 11.58.29 AM.png

OR I could go with Janji black shorts (with stuff in the pockets) over black leggings that I could dump if it gets hot.
I suppose option 3 would be to use the Janji shorts over the patterned leggings but that might look weird, but I may not care at that point. I've also got a few Bolder/Sparkle skirts in patterns that could go with the jersey and allow me to layer underneath.

GAH! HELP!!

Stop overthinking it! I like your idea to add a goat cutout if you think (and care) if people think you’re trolling.

I think if you decide to go with shorts, dropping your leggings off to your husband on-course (iirc you said he’d be out near BLT?) would be really easy. I’d say bring your options and evaluate when the forecast is less guess-y

I looooove that Merida flannel, and agree that the 5k looks colder than initially anticipated.

Merida outfit is super cute. I wish I bought everyone of the comfy princess outfits.

I think the mash up is cute. I am not sure I would get it without an explanation to be honest... but I know nothing about football. So no surprise there. So yeah there are going to be people who do not get it but I dont think that should stop u... I mean I am doing a really random character for a run Bloofy.... just cause I love that character so much even though i think most people won't get it without me explaining it. What is important is does it make u happy? If yes then wear it!

The Merida flannel gives me vibes from Ralph Breaks the Internet. It’s like a mashup of. Crowned and PJ Merida.
I love this! The shirt actually came out after that movie, so this tracks.

I went ahead and added some vinyl goats to the front and back of the jersey, but the rest will be decided when I get dressed on Sunday morning!

Finally finished my Dopey skirt for the Marathon (with 40 hours to spare before takeoff! 😄)

The top picture is the front of the skirt--the empty space is where I'll put my bib (I used an old bib to get the spacing right)
IMG_0827.jpeg

I made the jewels out of stick-on felt and painted them with glitter, and then a translucent coat of tinted iridescent paint to seal the glitter and even out the color (some of the glitter ended up less colorful and more silvery than I wanted). I should be able to remove the jewels and reuse the skirt afterward--it worked when I used stick-on felt for my DL half skirt back in January. Below is how the jewels look when the light does and doesn't catch the glitter.IMG_0828.jpeg

I also have my Pluto skirt for the 5K (reusing my felt Pluto from the January DL half)

I'm bringing the wig and I'm 90% sure I'm going to just go with the flannel and leggings and go full Cozy Princess Merida. When will I ever get another chance to wear FLANNEL during a Disney run???
