I’m in the process of thinking of different meatless meals for us to eat during Lent, and one meal I’m planning for us to have this Lenten season is spaghetti, I have no idea the last time we’ve had spaghetti - it’s been years. Don’t get me wrong, I do make pasta with other things, but never just spaghetti by itself. This year, I’m going to change that ::yes:: . When making spaghetti, you need to have sauce, unless you just enjoy buttered noodles, which isn’t for me, but DD22 has always loved buttered noodles. Some people make homemade sauce and others use jar sauce - both are good. What I’m wondering today is what type of sauce you enjoy on your spaghetti regardless if it’s homemade or jar. Let’s find out about all the different spaghetti sauces….

Holy Moly…..that’s A LOT of sauces! There’s no way I can add all these in the poll, so I’m going to have to cut it down by a lot. Now that we’ve reviewed all these sauces, it’s time to give us your saucy good answer……

What type of sauce do you like on your spaghetti?
(multiple choice)

*This is for spaghetti only - not pasta in general or different noodles.

*If you make homemade spaghetti sauce, and are willing to share your recipe, please post it. People like me may like to try making it.

For Me……I’m boring and just like marinara at home (I never ever ever ever get spaghetti at a restaurant). The four cheese one seems like it would be good and I’d probably like that. I only use jar sauce and never tackled trying to make it myself (I should try to do this sometime). I use Prego sauce, and I buy the no sugar added one, and it’s really good. I never have meat in my sauce - I can’t express enough how that is not for me.

I often like marinara vodka four cheese chunky vegetable or if I’m feeling very energetic I’ll just make my own it’s really not hard if I have it with butter I like it with brown butter

I buy whatever is cheaper at Sam's, either Prego or Ragu. If I have the time I'll doctor it up with sauteed onions and peppers and/or meat (burger or sausage or chicken). I've made it from scratch before, but at the price of tomatoes? Nope! We also like olive oil and garlic. If I'm doing a cheese/creamy sauce, that goes on some sort of tube or curly shaped pasta, to catch all the goodness!

We eat spaghetti pretty regularly. I have started buying the carbe diem pasta that has fewer carbs. I usually serve it with Rao's marinara sauce. Sometimes I add meat, sometimes not.

I hate jarred Alfredo sauce. Homemade is crazy easy to make, so I will fix that with fettuccine noodles sometimes. It is not healthy, so I don't fix it very often.

Have never made spaghetti sauce at home. The grocery store now has an entire row of good choices and not worth the time/effort to make from scratch. Don't eat spaghetti that often just not my thing. Like sauces with meat, but apparently bolognese purists consider it to be something else.

I make my own spaghetti sauce. I saute onion, mushrooms and garlic. I also use ground beef. I add a 16oz can of Cento brand diced tomatoes and a 16oz can of Muir Glen tomato sauce. I add fresh basil, fresh parsley and dried oregano. I add three bay leaves and remove them before serving. I simmer for approx 1-1/2 hours. The Muir Glen and Centro tomatoes are so rich that I don't need to add tomato paste.

I make a meat sauce using ground beef, onions, garlic, tomato paste, water, canned diced tomatoes and tomato puree. Sometimes I’ll use Hunts canned sauce instead of the tomato puree as it’s really good. I season with basil, oregano, salt, pepper and a couple dashes of red pepper flakes.

I prefer red sauces like a basic marinara or bolognese -tend to avoid cream sauces as they just aren't my thing. I'll make an Aglio e Olio on occasion. Also, a well made Cacio e Pepe is to die for.....

So, I’m going to be that person 😂

I like most of these sauces but I also am big on combining sauce with the better pasta shape to hold that sauce. For spaghetti, marinara and bolognese are fine. For an Alfredo or carbonara, it’s usually fettuccine. This holds for a number of creamy sauces. For vodka, it’s penne. For pesto, I like something grooved so it holds the little bits and pieces. Butter, unless we’re talking scampi, makes me think egg noodles.

As for favorite sauces…1. Alfredo 2. Carbonara 3. Pesto. I would love to say marinara but that’s one that so many places don’t do well. Unless you’re eating someone’s old family recipe that came over from Sicily, it’s often disappointing. I have tried my own and had it going all day in a pot but it’s just so much work. Of the jarred stuff, Rao’s is worth the price.

I buy Prego or Ragu whichever is on sale. I do switch up the "flavors" though -- sometimes plain marinara, often I grab one with chunky vegetables, occasionally the cheese flavor.

Carbonara! The authentic kind, just guanciale or pancetta, pecorino, egg (mostly yolks). NO CREAM!

I don't really like tomatoes. If the sauce on offer is marinara I just go with plain buttered noodles instead.
