The Unofficial Chatterbox Thread! Everyone is Welcome!

:headache:
High pressure problems, had to do some troubleshooting.. argh!
We are both tired of this dang catheter already, it's been only one week!

He has surgery on Friday to place the new fistula/access in his bicep. Long incision from his elbow to almost his armpit, dig out the brachial artery to bring up under the skin surface. The surgeon will also tie off the artery to the old fistula, allowing blood to flow in a more normal fashion... hopefully giving more flow back to the two fingers that already have nerve damage and prevent further problems.

The surgeon did offer to put one in his right arm, but E refused... fearing that he could have similar nerve damage/ blood flow issues in his dominant hand, if that happened.. how would he be able to write on the board, chart progress on his students, do lab demos, etc...

It will take 6 or more weeks for the new fistula to "mature", then they can yank out the dang catheter. :yay:

awww, Poly is being a very good kitty today.
She curled up next to my leg and is watching the drain line, I pulled her back twice before she settled down and realized she should leave it be..... she has a fondness of biting the soft plastic and watching the fluid dribble/ spray everywhere. It's the bubbles, she has to play with them you know.
When E first starts treatment she watches the line, scampers up and down the hall looking at the bubbles and trying to figure out how to capture them. CHOMP.... NOOOOOOOOOOO used smelly dialysate spraying YUCK!

Cute siggie Pix.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I really liked your pillow that you made. It reminded me of the Wise Old Owl on the "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?".

Pix, I like all your siggies, they are so cute and creative!! :)

thanks for all the welcomes everyone. :) I get worried that I can't keep up with these big threads so I avoid them, but I'm hoping I'll be able to keep up with this one. :)

Shouldn't be a problem keeping up with us lately. We used to be really busy, but things have slowed way down here. There used to be a time we chatted so much that you could be gone 1 day and it would take you an hour to read all of the posts.

He's all set, surgery tomorrow afternoon.
I don't like afternoon surgeries, Friday afternoons even more.. but the other choice was waiting another week and then he would miss the first days of school with students. The sooner this is done, the sooner the evil catheter can be yanked! :cool1:

He's already planning to freak out his students with his gnarly scar. :lmao:

Glad they got him in before school starts. I think Friday afternoon is much better than Monday morning though.:thumbsup2

How's life today?

Life is good. DH & the kidlets are racing PIR tonight, so they won't be home until late.

Tell E he's lucky, he gets to show his gnarly scars in public. I'll get thrown in jail if I start flashing my gnarly scars.:lmao:

Well that was strange! I didn't touch a thing on my computer and all of the suddent the reply to thread window came up. Hmmm...is my mom hovering around or something and playing games??:confused3:lmao:

well.. had a bad experience for a Friday.. it was just to be for a few hours to get an IV, doc didn't come back to write discharge instructions. Stupid "just a few hours" turned into an entire weekend while the doctor was off golfing.

The nurses called doc several times, would pop into his room and ask "what are you still doing here?" uhh geee, I have nothing better to do to have an IV stuck in my arm?? Our fave wise cracking nurse gave us the honest truth..the doc does this "all the time".

Now he wouldn't stay, he would just leave AMA.. too polite years ago. :lmao:

I had that happen at the OB/GYN once. They stuck me in the room and I waited and waited and waited and waited. I was young and stupid I guess. Finally about an hour later a nurse walks in, looks shocked and asked what I was doing there. Uhmmm...I'm here for my yearly exam. Seems they had a lady that came in that was in labor, so they ended up putting her in an ambulance and sending her to the hospital. But in all of the confusion they forgot about me (it was a late afternoon appt.). Then the doctor left for the day. Luckily the nurse could do my yearly, so not a problem. But she still chuckled and told me I was way to polite and if I ever waited more then 15 minutes in a room, I should come out and tell someone. YEAH, you try doing that with an open gown and sheet wrapped around your butt!

Funny you should mention wind, because we have cooler weather coming in and it was very windy this evening. But I had the doors and windows closed, so didn't hear the chimes. Maybe she just found another way to contact me! Oh great, now I have to share the laptop!:lmao:

Glad it wasn't just me. Mine got hung up and I think windows was installing updates at the same time, so very slow.

I know! We are becoming a bit too diversified. I've been posting on Komen again also.
