The Unofficial Chatterbox Thread! Everyone is Welcome!

I'm not much for trip report writing, but I will say I had fun meeting up with my buddies... and adding a new face to the group :goodvibes
Hi Chrissy!!

Too bad the lovely weather I had early in the week did not last. Friday was miserable wet, during the day it was a light drizzle but it just never stopped! Got worse (heavy) as the evening approached. I wonder how Pix fared on her commute back home? Disney closed the parks hours earlier than scheduled on Friday, just as well as the parks were empty and it was just too heavy of a rain to enjoy slogging around the park in our "shower curtains". :rotfl:

We were all peeved when they closed early on Saturday as well, the day that it rained very briefly and became a gorgeous evening. :headache: The announcement stated closing early due to "inclement weather and low attendance"
Very little rain and large crowds is what really happened. :confused3
Oh well, we made the most of it. :upsidedow

Hi Beth! How are you? Feel free to stop by (or creep by :rotfl:) here any time! :goodvibes

I am on the mailing list for one of our local thrift store chains. They had sent me a postcard awhile back for upcoming sale dates, I tucked it away.. completely forgot about it until yesterday when I notice it pinned to the fridge..

hmmm, 50% off winter clearance on Saturday? Thinking it was just 50% off winter clothes, considering we have winter for 8 months of the year here :rolleyes1 figured we would check it out, look at the newly opened location too.

Imagine our surprise, it was 50 % off EVERYTHING :yay:

Nice quality and lower everyday price than our closest (for profit) thrift store.
Everything is donated, many of the items are name brand (London Fog, Old Navy, J Jill, Liz Clairborne, Lands End), they use volunteers and the store profit supports the developmentally/intellectually disabled and their families. (ARC)

My sis has used ARC for advice when writing her son's IEP each year and for parent seminars on resources / autism info. I know they do training for teachers on writing IEPs, the laws, and how to teach children of differnet abilities. They have a traveling puppet show to teach kids about disabilities in general (the puppets have wheelchair, cane, leg braces, helper dog. etc), it's really cool.

Awesome!!! I went to Kohl's today, then over to Goodwill (it was packed!) and grocery shopping at Winco. Tomorrow lots of house cleaning and all of the work I brought home this weekend.

Here the Goodwill is very expensive for clothes and books, okay for household items. I can easily hit the clearance racks at any of the malls and spend less on something new than anything at Goodwill.

Though we do have a Goodwill outlet, odd store where they sell by the pound (clothing, toys, shoes, etc) or set price per piece (books, electronics). They have huge low level boxes (gaylords) or barrels full of clothing or just of books. Staff come out every few minutes and dump out big carts full of other stuff out on long tables.... then the greedy people come in like vultures and quickly make a mad grab, sometimes fights ensue. It's ugly, hazardous (broken glassware mixed in ) and just plain creepy!

We had just as much luck pawing thru the boxes and barrels or picking up the leftovers. We wear grubby clothes and gloves, making sure to have handi-wipes in the car. But we see little kids playing among the boxes, nobody is watching them. :guilty: It made us sad so we stopped going.

Not every deal is "worth it".

I'm disgusted by the wastefulness of someone in our complex.
It's apparent they are packing and getting ready to vacate.. kinda early in the month??? :confused3

It started with an entire mattress and box springs shredded apart and shoved into the dumpster. We thought it was hilarious and creative, dumping furniture in the dumpster is against the rules.. but hey they made it fit. :lmao:

Next day a dozen bags of household goods tossed in the dumpster, one was full of Christmas ornaments and decorations, another obviously full of clothing. Why not donate?? Pop it in your car and drop it off?

Next they tossed a dresser next to the dumpster, looks fine... but in the process of tossing it up on the snowbank they broke off a leg.

Today, we were totally shocked.
A lamp, a moving box taped shut and full of something, tons of boxes and bags sitting on top of the dresser and now there is no more room IN the dumpster.
There is regular garbage strewn all around the front and side, pizza boxes, paper bags full of trash, food wrappers. :sad2:

Our pick up isn't until Tuesday. :scared1:

I'm hoping our apt caretaker figures out who put all the junk in there and asks the owner to charge them extra for garbage hauling.

No way is the trash company going to pick up the mess all around the dumpster. I expect that kind of "trashy" behavior in some areas of the cities, but never had it happen here.

Our caretaker had remarked awhile back that the owner should be "more careful" of who signs onto a lease. I was a little perpelxed and wondered what he meant, for the most part people are friendly and except for the whacko lady complaining of "smells" and the family that needs a volume switch... we've never had a problem.

I know the vacancy rate in all of the twin cities has gone up... Renting out to anyone is better than having a vacant apartment. :guilty:

Well folks.. we are all moved in! Still dont have the good computer hooked up, so I have to use the stupid laptop. Have I metioned how much I dislike laptops?? I have fat fingers that like to pound on keyboards. Doesnt work well with this little thing!:lmao: ANyways... It took us a full week to move in. We still left the other place a bit of a mess. I did what I could.. Oh well... we paid a HUGE deposit when we moved in, so they can take whatever out of that.

Our new place is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! The kitchen/dining room/living room are all smaller, but more open.. So I can cook, and still be in the mix with everyone else. My kids LOVE having thier own rooms. LOVE IT. and the babies..... OMG. SLEEPING THROUGHT TheNIGHT!!!! :cool1: Its amazing. We found the Jasmine likes going to bed around 7, and sleeps ALL NIGHT, until 8 or 9, Vinny likes going to bed a little later, between 9 and ten and is sleeping until 9 or 10. If we lay him down sooner, he just wakes up all night long. Im so happy. We still have boxes and bags everywhere.. nothing is put away.. But I am happy.

I wish Disneyland would have been after this move... I dont even feel like I got away! This move has about killed us!!! My body hurts so bad. The next time we move, we are so hiring someone to do it for us!!:lmao:

aaww that kinda sucks but hey you can enjoy the new place :) you need to post pics of the new place :)

We've said the same every move.. yet we still do it ourselves.

:woohoo: woohoo on sleeping through the night and figuring out schedules

happy babies = happy mama = everyone happy :thumbsup2

We have those stores here also, they call them the Goodwill "Bins". I went a couple of times...hard to find clothing, because it's not sorted, all sizes are together. But lots of other treasures and 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardback books. We have a large Russian community in Vancouver and they really seem to be the only ones that go to the "Bins" store. Nothing broken in our bins.

Kinda funny, but then again not really! Hope they figure it out.
