The things you see at Wal Mart

Well, if you're ever in the NW burbs of Chicago, try stoping at the one in Streamwood, located on Barrington Road. Eye opening experiance, let me tell you.
bad, scary place.
I refuse to go there after 3:00 PM or on the weekends. If I go early enough on a weekday it is almost tolerable. More often than not I will go to Target instead, but WalMart does have lower prices on some of the things I need to buy.

That's the one I slipped on the laundry detergent at, they accused me of trying to stage an accident. I should have sued them just for being jerks! I don't think that's the problem with the Wal-Mart workers--think about it this way--right across the street is the Number One company in the US to work for--Wegman's (a non-union grocery store, but that's another topic) and the associates there are wonderful and serve the same geographic region, and thus a good part of the same clientele.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

In all seriousness, sounds like the one in Manville.

Anne

Thanks for the compliment (I work for Wegmans)

Gee, since I plan on getting my holiday portraits there I guess that makes me "ghetto & trashy"?

BTW-when I lived in FL they had a Supercenter in my town and every Sunday I went there in my PJ'S! Boxers, a t-shirt and flip flops.

I can't wait for Wegman's. One is supposed to be in development where I live. I hear it will be open in 18 months. My wife says they are awesome!

Oh God! When I go shopping, I don't pay no attention to no one, I go and shop and that's it. Who cares what people do or wear, they aren't paying for my groceries? And I do shop at Wal Mart, why paying more for the same item? Just bcs people "look" or "act" better else where? I got better things to worry about.
Ah btw once at Starbucks a Lady was wearing Spongebob slippers and spongebob PJ's shorts. But I don't care if she's OK going like that to Starbucks, why do i care.

My Opinion!! Flame proof suit on.

YOu are welcome--it's well deserved. And BTW--the number six place to work in the US is Publix, another non-union grocery store here in the south. I prefer Wegman's, they offer more "specialty" items, but the employees at both are great! (disclaimer--my son works for Publix, but that has nothing to do with my appreciateion of the company!)

We went to Walmart last night, which is rare, as we only go 2 times a year, we went to get some christmas lights, as target ran out.

Walmart is SO ghetto, I am so happy those people don't drive to my town and ruin the target that is here.

ETA: NOT ALL WALMARTS ARE GHETTO, HOWEVER, THE ONE THAT IS 15 MILES FROM MY HOME IS AS IS THE ONE THAT IS 30 MILES FROM MY HOME. NOT ALL PEOPLE AT THE WALMART NEAR ME IS GHETTO, HOWEVER A LARGE PERCENTAGE IS.

Wow, that is really an interesting statement from someone that wants to become a dr. Are you going to turn away "these" people because they are "so ghetto"? I shop at walmart and I can guarantee I have more money then you do, does that make me "ghetto'?

I shop at Walmart every single week. I do all my grocery shopping there and also paper products and personal products. I like being able to get a low price w/o havng to carry around a darn card of some type.

Our Walmart here is friendly and clean. There are all kinds of people shopping there. Some are heavier than me, some are thinnner than me. Some are richer, some are poorer. Some are more educated, some less educated. I am not sure what that has to do with the price of tea in China? Oh well, I never get these Walmart bashing threads.

As far as the OP's comment about the lady in her gown--who knows why she was wearing it? People dress crazy and go all kinds of places. Yep, you see all kinds at Walmart because so many people shop there and it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.
And maybe she was sick, there on her coat to go get meds and was running back home to go to bed? I, myself, would put some clothes on but we all know that some people could care less what others think of them so maybe she was too sick to care.

I think the WalMart in Clermont is quite nice. Haven't seen any weird looking folks there. Never very crowded and the store is pretty clean.

There's a Super Walmart not far from my sisters place in Lady Lake (actually there are two - one north and one south of her - and they're both great stores to shop in.. Clean, friendly, organized - and no toothless, lice-ridden, pot smoking folks lurking inside or outside of the store.. LOL :rotfl: I don't think the one south of her is as far as Clermont though.. Maybe Leesburg?

We shopped in both while I was there last winter/spring and couldn't have been more pleased.. :flower:

Back to the original post, the person dressed in the nightgown very well may have been, and most likely was, mentally ill.
We have a mentally ill women who comes to a McDonalds by us. All the employees are nice to her. The first time we saw her she seemed scary, now we know her as Mary (that is her name) and just go there, eat and leave. She bothers nobody and has a great appetite. I wish I could eat what she does and be her size. She is dressed the same way in the dead of winter or the hottest day in the summer. Having Mary there does not make the McDonalds ghetto and trashy. The only ghetto and trashy problem is in the judgemental persons head.

I live near a walmart in a poor, high crime area of town, and also near one in an upscale subdivision area of town. I have run into more rude, nasty, obnoxious people with a feeling of entitlement at the one in the upscale area BY FAR. I guess it all just depends on what offends someone.

Amen. Thank you--this thread was starting to really bother me... :flower:

I try not to pay attention, but at my walmart that is kinda of difficult. We went Monday night, and as I said it is a rare event and there were employees yelling across teh aisle to the other employee with you there, having a loud conversation on their cell phone, pushing you out of the way without saying excuse me, if you attempt to ask a question they walk away and act as if you were never there. That kind of stuff bothers me. In addition to that, some of the customers do the same pushing, they drop their kids off in the toy department and then go and do there shopping, then there are rows of opened broken toys all over the store because the poor child is looking for mommy. Things shouldn't be that way, and it's sad that where I live demographics play a huge difference. One day, I hope to go into a nice Walmart.

Lots of people have a lot of opinions about walmart and the labor thing. But I have no problem shopping at Walmart.com but the store is a pain.

Have you ever complained to corporate about this? Honestly, if I thought a store and its employees were this bad, I wouldn't shop there. :flower:

Oh Boy, just the thread I can speak to personally! Yes, personally...I live three miles from the Wal Mart Home office in AR. DH works for a vendor that sells directly to WAl Mart. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, he is going there for a meeting today. One of the four stores in the fifteen mile radius just happens to be store #1, the very first Wal mart EVER. In the middle of our small town is Walton's five and dime, the first "store" Sam Walton ever opened. When I shop at these stores, what do I see? Very nice customers that are dressed like they are going shopping on Rodeo drive, the cars in the parking lots are expensive: Hummers, BMW's, Mercedes, Volvo's, Acura's, etc. the store personnel are nice, helpful, pleasant, and actually smile at you and tell you to have a great day as you leave. Do we have people shop there that are of a lower income? Of course. There are those that cannot even speak English. There are those that look like they need a good, hot meal and even those dressed in PJ's. However, if you speak to them, they are nice and nod back.
On the flip side, we lived in Rochester NY for three years and DH called on Wegman's headquarters there. I have Never, and I mean NEVER, experienced such RUDE people in all my life as those I encountered there in the local Wegman's. Yes, the store is beautiful, however, the downright unpleasantness of the employees and people in general (customers as well) was the reason I couldn't wait to leave that city! I guess it's all according to where you live as to the type of people you encounter where you shop. But to classify Wal MArt, and the people who shop there, to me, is a bit extreme.

People in the northeast are generally not as "overly friendly". They don't wave at perfect strangers and smile and get all warm and funzzy when passing a stranger. This is NOT RUDE, it's normal. Frankly I find it weird down south that people I don't even know want to strike up a conversation with me while I'm shopping or wave at me as I drive by. To me if someone I don't know starts waving at me, I think they are trying to tell me my skirt is hanging out my door.

I would love to complain to corporate, however dear SO has a softer heart than I do and believes that these people were never taught how to behave or act in public yet alone the workplace and they may need their jobs and if we complain they could possibly lose their jobs.

Thats why we go at 6 am. on Saturday and Sunday mornings. My 11 mth old is up at that time - and we can get in and out of Walmart without seeing many other people and without waiting in line. The last time I went on a Saturday afternoon because my Mom had my DS. It was insane. It was so crowded and the humanity was so scary. I said never again. Its 6 a.m. or not at all for me.

Good call on that one!

While shopping in upstate NY, I didn't want overly friendly...I wanted to see some personality! When I would go to check out, the cashier's typically scowled, never even spoke, (ie: How are you today?) what I got was ...Nothing. I would speak to them and it looked to me that it PAINED them to answer a polite "fine". No one smiled...ever; no one made eye contact and the whole place was depressing. The one time I ever saw life in anyone there was on 9/11. We went to Wegman's and people were smiling and greeting one another. DH and I were amazed and couldn't believe the change that such a circumstance would create. Two days later, it went back to being the same way it was before.

Wow, some of you people are really judgmental!

I couldn't care less if the woman in line in front of me at Wal-Mart is wearing her nightgown. If that's what she wanted to wear to town, why should I even care?! :confused3

I shop to buy things we need, not to watch and see what everyone else is wearing (or not wearing), what their kids are doing (or not doing), what they are buying (or not buying), etc. etc.

It's just like the formal dinners on cruises, some people are so judgmental about what others are wearing and some even say it ruins their dinner to see someone come into the dining room in t-shirt and shorts. Big friggin' deal!! Why should I care what joe shmoe is wearing?! It certainly isn't going to ruin my dinner!! I'm there to enjoy the cruise, and dinner with my family. Same for my shopping experience whether it be at Wal-Mart, Target or Saks!!!
