ohh and I am at Walmart at least 2x a week...
DH thinks we should have bought stock in it!

(maybe if i had a CHOICE withing a half hour drive I would choose somewhere else - but it is all I got - and as for the GETTO in walmart thought - maybe you should move out of the ghetto then...)

hmmmm i've avoided this thread,, but i cant stand it any longer,, we shop at wal mart, i go in in my paint stained overalls and work shirts,, even wear the ones in there with my name sewn over the pockets. i go there because there is no viable cost effective alternative here, but you know what,, if we had a target i would still be in my worn dirty workj clothes. i happen to own my business and am an employee of the same,, i paint,, i build things, and i look the part. does that make my money any less green? should i be classed lower than the guy in stage with his three piece suit and tie that are probably on a credit card,, whlie i carry several hundred bucks in cash? you find people of all types , income levels etc in all of these stores, yeah if the stores in a bad nieghborhood then you are more likely to find people from that nieghborhood,,and if it was in a nice nieghborhood the mode of dress , or value of the vehicles in the lots would be better, but ya know,,, this is america, founded on and made greta by the fact that here you can find all kinds of people who are gasp created equal. it doewsnt matter where you live where you shop etc.

this thread has gone too far, the fact that the op saw a person whose mode of dress was inappropriate has noithing to do with where she was. maybe this person was mentally incapacitated, maybe she was doing it on adare,, i've seen worse dares pulled off in my time, i've seen people that really honestly had to go when they went, maybe this was a mom in a rush to get medicines for her kids. maybe it was someone who was doing laundry, and was out of soap, maybe the baby was out of diapers, who knows. what difference does it make where she was?

Froggy, there is a HUGE differance in someone's clothes being dirty due to being on a job site all day, and someone who's clothes are dirty because they just don't care. I worked at Target for 2 1/2 years as a teenager/young adult and I saw painters, construction guys, mechanics, plumbers, and lots of other people who came straight from work. What I never saw (and still don't see when I shop at Target), were people who simply did not take pride in their apperance. If poor people shopped at my Target, you couldn't tell by their apperance, or even what they bought. If everything they bought was on sale or clearance, were they poor or frugal? I didn't know and never made assumptions. The Target I worked at was 1/4 down the same road as the WM (so thus the population base was EXACTLY the same), and the differance in the type of people that shopped at them was and still is extremely noticable. You can't HELP but notice, it's that extreme, you would have to be blind or deluded not to see it.

Shopping at WM doesn't make a person bad, inferior, "ghetto", "low class" or anything else. WM has a reputation for lower prices (although the few times I've shopped at them, I haven't noticed a huge differance myself) and people of limmited income are going to shop where their dollar stretches further. And people who are un-kept are more likely to be poor. I feel that is why you see a differance in WM shoppers, at least in my area. But the clientel is NOT why I refuse to shop at the WM's in my area. I refuse to go there because the stores are trashed, the aisles jammed packed with merchandise and people, the lines are very, very long and the employee's are indifferant at best and horrible at worst. If the stores were nice, I shop there regardless of the other shoppers who might be there. But as it is, the Target down the road is clean, un-crowded with merchandise (still plenty of other shoppers though!) lines tend to be short even on weekends due to having enough cashiers, and the employee's are helpfull and nice. And as far as I can tell, the prices are about the same on many comparable items. So that's why I shop at Target.

Many of the posters here HAVE nice Wal-Marts to go to. And that's great, if you like to shop there, more power to you. I, at least, make no assumptions about posters here that DO shop at WM. But what us "nay-sayers" are trying to say is that not ALL WM's are as nice as the ones you have, and we have legitamate reasons for not wanted to shop at our WM's.
