The stress of waitlists

We are on multiple waitlists for HH this summer. We are hoping for a 5 night trip, but we would be happy with 4 nights. We would not travel for a trip of 3 nights or less.

Yesterday, we were able to secure 2 nights, but we had to borrow in order to make the reservation. Knowing the possibility exists that we might cancel, we re-allocated the borrowed points toward a current reservation for Boardwalk in May so the HH reservation would be made up of all bankable points. This way, barring the unforseen, we don't have to worry about our precious points ending up in Holding Account Jail.

This would sound like we are in pretty good shape. We are halfway to a reservation we'd be happy with and 4 months to let the waitlists work. The trouble is that I'm not a very patient person, and I always like to get my airline tickets early. I want the phone to ring so we can finalize our summer plans. We became members last year, and this is our first experience with waitlists and scheduling outside our home resort. Do any other members on this board experience wait list stress, or is this unusual? What are our chances of getting what we want?

not being able to make plans is the pits. I am a compulsive planner, so I understand that not having things set in stone could be a real problem. I would probably purchase my tickets for the whole time, and hope the waitlist comes through. I would also call and check for cash availability at HH. If that does not pan out I might consider booking a cancellable backup at another resort, or consider the short drive to Savannah or Charleston(stay there for a few days), both places I want to visit when we finally go to HH. I no there not DVC accomodations but it's better than ditching your whole trip. Chances are if 2 days came through hopefully the others will soon. Do you have any way of knowing where you are on the waitlist? Will they even tell you if you ask? I also would continue to call MS, and not just rely on the waitlist. Sometimes they magically find things when people call to check. Best of luck!

MS wasn't able to tell me where we stood on the waitlist. You mention Savannah and Charleston. How are the activities for kids in these towns?
