The star wars spoiler thread

Keep in mind that he's a fictional character. I don't advocate violence and murder in the real world, but I have absolutely zero interest in seeing him redeemed. I'm heartily sorry that Rey didn't maim him further. Somebody needs to put him down.

Easy there, Knute...

I am admittedly a casual Star Wars fan - but I feel the need to weigh in on the Kylo Ren discussion. Leaving the theater I actually said to my husband "I was deeply disturbed by that fight in the woods where he kept hitting his side!" I think they are setting him up to be an absolutely deranged individual. I'm excited/terrified to see where they take that character next :scared1:

I think considering how thin, useless...and often laughable the villians in the prequels were...they found use some sinister.

Seeing as they are making a separate movie that is in the universe but not a story line following Epsiodes 1-9 I can imagine they will finish this at 9 and then follow those other stories.

There are already "rumors" floating around that Disney/Lucasfilm is considering producing a 4th trilogy.

I'll probably be in a nursing home by the time its completed.

Agreed! At first I couldn't figure out what was happening in that scene. Then I realized he was striking his blaster wound and the blood was actually pooling on the ground next to his feet. I remember thinking to myself at that moment how out of control he was. That is why the fight with Rey became so hard for him. He was already wounded twice before fighting her, and that one wound to his abdomen that he pounded on was from Chewie's crossbow - a punishing weapon.

But man do I love that character. The scene where he interrogated Poe was great. I like how J.J. has made it appear that his use of the force is violent. How the contraption Poe was strapped to shook, and how 'in pain' he appeared when Ren was trying to pull the information from him.

JJ actually said in an interview that they did have Luke come in early in several versions of the script (sounded like they did a lot of shooting, rewriting, and re-shooting on this one) and every time as soon as Mark Hamill stepped foot into a scene it felt like it was Luke's story again and not Rey and Finn's. So they went back to the drawing board and decided since they needed to make us feel for these new characters Luke was missing and wouldn't be discovered until the very end. Originally he was discovered much earlier in the film just like Poe was suppose to die in the crash in the beginning but then they realized 1. they liked the guy who plays Poe and 2. They needed the trio like in the originals.

The two things that have popped up here and are going to continue that I think are the most illogical is that:

A. They shouldn't have killed solo
B. They shoulda had Luke in this one.

As I commented on another thread...what was solo gonna do? Deliver the mail?

The character was farmed out in empire if you're honest...in Jedi he was basically Jedi boyfriend/ambassador to the land of ewoks

Ford was right...he had run his course.

Same for hammil in this story. It is far from a perfect story...not even close. But there was nothing for skywalker to do in it. It would've dumbed it down even more.

What do they do? Show him eating his Jedi breakfast?

It wasnt JUST about new characters for new toys...it was that the old
One's had their day. I do see the Disney logic there.

Why did Fin handle a lightsaber well? Against Ren? No explanation but I forgive this one oversight unless there is a future explanation.
.

I don't think he actually did handle it particularly well. Not by Jedi standards anyway. Compare the way he fought with it with what we saw of the Jedi in the prequels and what he did was pretty basic. But, he's a trained soldier and that probably included some hand to hand combat, so he can do the basics.

The heavy focus on original trilogy actors during the promotion was my biggest worry actually. I know they are people's favorites, but they're also semi-retired and not capable of handling action movies any more. They needed to be moved into supporting roles and the movie did it pretty gracefully all things considered.

For me personally and this is me. I was very attached to Han Solo. Easily my #1 favorite character. So the loss of him hurts just a little. Even though it makes perfect sense that Han Solo would never retire quietly and die of old age. Just don't kill off the rest of them please.

I am still hoping that that this bites Kylo Ren in the butt in later movies.

Good! Disney did exactly what they needed to do. They created a new villain that can generate a visceral response. Now they have setup the two antagonists at opposite ends so they take it anywhere they want.

The only real question I had is I want to know whose "eyes" Finn has. That is what I want to hear in episode VIII. He has much more mystery surrounding him then Rey in my mind.

Maybe so ... but I gathered that the punch line of this scene was, look, she's got Yoda's eyes.

If they want to make Finn resonate I suppose the only logical backstory is that he was taken from Lando Calrissian as a baby. Unless Billy Dee is unavailable and/or they decide to invent a completely new mystery/backstory.

Contrived backstories are so lame though. The basic facts of Finn's existence are good enough. He was conscripted, trained, brainwashed and then treated like a mindless drone ... like millions of other storm troopers from all over the galaxy. But eventually he became disenchanted with the military, as many soldiers do. Nuff said.

Don't know if it's true but I read that Billy Dee isn't doing too great physically.

The Millennium Falcon reveal got the biggest cheer of the movie. It was done perfectly imo.

I'm not sure if I care so much about who his parents are etc but there is something with in Finn that made his stronger than the brain washing. I imagine based on the fact Captain Phasma and General Hux discuss that Finn had never shown signs before and then was sent for retraining that he was not their first case of snapping. He was just the first successful one to end up not shot dead on site or retrained.

There just has to be something behind his drive for good.

Long story short. My son who is 6 is a star wars fan, but he is still a youngling. He saw the first 3 movies, and the third one was a little too dark for him at the time. Nightmares, etc. Now he's finally ready for the next three, and those are sitting under the Christmas tree. We can't very well go see the movie until he's up to date. Which means I'm either going to sit, and slowly get all the spoilers over a painful month or so, or we can rip the band aid off quickly. I don't want to go see it without him......but man I'm tempted.

Ummm hire a babysitter and go. Then go again with your son.

Honestly...people were saying all those things and ecstatic coming out in 1999 too...

I'm more interested in what it's like on January 10th...when people would be going for repeats or "getting around to it"...

The lasting stars movies he legs...the others...didn't.

Yeah the difference is TFA is a really great movie and TPM is something we should all forget. I've already seen it twice and I'm trying to figure out how to go see it a third time. Most of my friends and family have already seen it twice.

I agree with this- every time Han came onscreen, I couldn't help but think "wow, he looks so old!" Same thing with Leia. She hasn't aged nearly as well as Ford. I think the movie did a great job of using them well in the movie and introducing the new big 3- Rey, Finn, and Poe. However, I'm looking forward to Luke as a Jedi Master in episode viii, and I hope he has a decent sized role.

And the records keep falling. Biggest domestic Monday at $40.1 million vs. the previous record holder Spider-Man 2 at $27.6 million.

More importantly Box Office Mojo says the movie is tracking like Avatar in terms of drop off. In which case they project $500 million domestic by Saturday making it the fastest to $500 million (about have the time it took Jurassic World to do that). I'd say it's just a matter of time now before Avatar falls to number 2.

I agree about Luke... JJ Abrams said he kept trying to figure out how to insert Luke into the movie, and it just never worked. No matter what he tried. I'm hoping there's room for him in the next film.

Went to get tickets. Everything tonight sold out at 3 theaters. Everything after 4 tomorrow sold out. Everything Thursday sold out. Some availability on Friday afternoon.
