Has anyone stayed at the Sagamore? Do you know what kind of accommodations are included in DVC? Did you enjoy the resort? Did you take children? Were they bored?

We went in April for 3 nights and stayed in one of the Lodge Suites. They are very rustic but very clean. We had a suite that overlooked the lake and it was very pretty. In the bedroom closet were terrycloth robes for our use and a staff member knocked at your door at 7pm to see if they could turn down the bed for you. When we declined they would give us a handful of godiva chocolates for our kids.

I would love to go without our kids (they are 5, 3 1/2, and 9 months), but we still had stuff to do with them. First off we went in the pool alot, which they enjoyed. We took them down to Lake George (about 10 miles down the lake) and walked around the stores and let them play on the playground. We didn't eat at the resort because it was too expensive for the kids. (Our first night there we ordered a large pizza and a dozen wings and it came to $40!) Instead we drove to Glens Falls and ate at a restaurant there and also went to the mall.

The Sagamore has a spa that I would have loved to have tried out (one for men and one for women). Plus they have a very upscale restaurant, Trilliums, that no one under the age of 7 can get into and dress code is a must!

It's really a beautiful resort and I want to go back again someday, but just my dh and me. ;)

Thanks, Polly!! It sounds truly wonderful!!! I am surprised you stayed 3 days. We are very new at this and had thought we could only book for 7 nights. Good to know we can book for less than a week. We may want to visit some friends up in that neck of the woods.
BTW, what exactly does "rustic" mean. My kids DD14 and DS9 will want to know if there is a television. ;)
Is the lodge suite the only accomodation available on points? Is there only 1 BR? I saw on their website that there are also 2 BR condos. I guess that is not the accommodation available through DVC?
Just curious.

The Sagamore is a beautiful resort. Since it is part of the Concierge Collection, you can stay there any number of nights (up to the number of points you have)... The Lodge suites are similar to nice one bedroom condos at a ski resort, but VERY clean and well kept. In my opinion, "Rustic" refers to the fact that some of the furniture is 'adirondack style' (woodsy type stuff).. Not to be confused with "rustic" like a state park cabin. The Sagamore is a luxury resort and rents those accommodations for over $300 a night (in slow season).. We stayed there last month for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Lodge Suites have a living room with fireplace and TV, small kitchen with Refrig, small 2 burner stove, microwave and dishes (no pots).. The bedroom had a king size bed, second TV, night stands and dresser. The suite had lots of closet space and a nice sized bathroom. It also had a balcony with two rocking chairs that overlooked Lake George. I believe DVC also offers suites in the main building. These suites (I think) are more 'victorian' styled and probably do not have a balcony.

You can see pictures of the resort, including pictures of the room at their web site at www. thesagamore.com .

The restaurants in the resort are a bit expensive. Mr. Browns Pub has decent sandwiches and pub fare. The Trillium is a great restaurant if you want to go for a nice, romantic dinner,, BUT it's rathe expensive... If you like German food, there is a restaurant right down the road from the Sagamore called Pumpernickels, they have decent German food and a HUGE working cookoo clock (about 2 stories tall)...

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask...

Chris

Isn't the Great Escape theme park in that area?

The Great Escape/Splashwater Kingdom is about 4 miles south of Lake George on Route 9, about halfway between Lake George and Glens Falls. It is now a Six Flags park. I would say it is no more than 20 minutes from The Sagamore.

I've never stayed at the Sagamore, but we vacation on the lake and have the Sagamore as our view. It's spectacular. My In-laws also live in Bolton Landing, where the Sagamore is located. They belong to the spa and say it's top notch.

As far as enough for the kids, there is TONS of stuff for the kids. We do a family reunion every August. There is every water sport imaginable. There's hiking in the mountains with a wide variety of trails. We love looking for waterfalls. There are quite a few parks there. None spectacular, but the kids enjoy them enough. There are a couple waterparks also.

The rest of my family loves to go to the horse track in Saratoga, a short distance away. Not my cup of tea, but for some reason even the kids love it. The enjoy getting the jockey's signatures.

There's also some type of Christmas village and Indian reservations. I usually choose just to hang out around the cabin and enjoy the view of the Sagamore. I've never heard a bad thing about the place.

WOW!!! Thanks, everyone!! I cannot believe that just a few days ago, I knew almost nothing about this resort. You have all certainly convinced me that this would be an awesome vacation spot for next summer. It sounds fabulous!

We stayed at The Sagamore for a couple of nights last month. Not on points - we went with family members. There are different accomodations available from hotel rooms to 2 br suites. We were in a 1 br. It was very nice and cost about $429 a night - for a week night. It included a kitchenette, living room with pull out and a TV, a small sitting area with a table and chairs, a bedroom with wo queen beds and another TV, and a bathroom. A 2 br would include the room directly across a shared vestibule from the 1 br - kind of attached but not really. The 1 br overlooked the lake and was beautiful.

The grounds of the resort are spectacular. We had a number of kids in the group - ages 1 to 6 - and they all had a good time. At the resort there is an indoor pool, swimming in the lake, a sandy beach area on the lake, a marina to rent various size boats - enoght to keeps the kids happy for a couple of days at least. They also have kids programs if you want to enroll them and get free for some adult time. We had Sunday brunch in the Trillium room. That is the only time kids are allowed and it wasn't very expensive. There are a few other restaurants that were more casual and were good. You can also take a free 15 minute horse drawn carriage ride around the property - the kids really liked that.

Outside of the resort there is plenty to do as well. Bolton Landing is a small, but very nice town. Lake George Village down the road is much bigger and a bit more tacky - but worth walking around. We did the paddle bopat ride on the lake which was fun. There is quite a variety of other attractions as well that can be found by searching Lake George on the internet.

We are not 'lake people', meaning we like to go to the ocean beaches for summer vacations, but we enjoyed the place. You could stay there for two a couple of days and never leave the resort - even with kids.

We stayed at the Sagamore a few years ago over the 4th of July week end! live band on the grounds and the fireworks were terrific....altho we kept asking each other "Where's the music?!" as in Disney fireworks......but all these boats pull up around the sagamore to hear the band and view the fireworks! The passed around the 3 d glasses like you get at MGM......we were not in the main resort building but a building close to a marina...just a "regular" room with 2 beds....but spacious....no view...the parking lot! there is an on site miniature golf course there too..Enjoy!

We went to the hotel in February 2002, it is a wonderful hotel.
It depends on the time you are going, summer, there is playground, pool, lake area, and activites. Winter indoor pool, activities, and if there is snow cross country sking, ice skating on the lake. The room was a 1 bedroom with kitchen, l.r. with fireplace pull out couch, master bedroom, overlooking the mountains. You go there again on points.
