The Running Thread--2024

Best softball venue in the US, and I’m sure the stadiums will be full making it an excellent environment for playing games - ten times the amount of people vs. UCLA softball stadium. I do realize that it’s not LA, so probably a let down for the players for an Olympic environment.
The canoeing events will also be in Oklahoma.
And OKC is closer to LA than Tahiti is to Paris. 😬
Oh yeah. I fully understand the reasons that softball will be in OKC, since they have all of the fantastic facilities from WCWS.

I'm sitting here laughing a little bit, knowing Colorado will never get an Olympics. Denver pulled out of hosting the winter Olympics once, because its citizens put it in law that the organizing committee couldn't use public tax money for the games. Plus all of the events would've been outside Denver and a lot of those towns said no.

July 2024 Running Totals:

This included one 15k, two 5ks and everything else in between. I was on weeks 5-8 and half of week 9 for my 5k training plan.

Earlier in the summer I found out, the hard way that the town removed two bubblers from the park (that's a drinking water fountain for those not in the know).....but during yesterday's run I found a spigot. I'm surprised it was the first time I saw it since I use that path frequently, but the water dripped in the right way that caught the sunlight and I saw it! Two splashes on my face and a gulp from my palms and I was on my way feeling so refreshed.
Yesterday, I had a threshold run with a T+D of 152. My warm-up mile was a minute slower than usual and what should have been my threshold pace was a minute slower than my long run pace. I know it was just one run, but I hope this run, plus the high heat for the rest of the week doesn't derail my training.

My weekend at the Paris Olympics left me wanting more. I really hope to attend some of the next Olympic Games. I've been streaming a lot of gymnastics on Peacock.

Did anyone watch the women's triathlon today? They DID do the swim, though the current looked brutal. The cobblestone streets were wet, so there were multiple gnarly wipeouts on the bike section. It was crazy!

I’ve only made it through the men’s so far, but the commentators mentioned some of what happened in the women’s race. That current - I’d have drowned!

For all the hype about it “NEEDING” to be raced in Paris and the Seine to showcase the city… I found the visuals to be pretty boring and not doing much at all to sell what is truly such a magical place. Curious to see how the cycling road races look now…

I am in my fifth week of a @DopeyBadger training plan for the November Harrisburg Marathon. Things are going well so far. Mostly slow and steady.

In addition to getting ready for the marathon, one of my goals this year is to hit 2,000 miles. I'm currently on pace.

July Miles: 0 miles (I did got for a 2.5 mile walk yesterday).

Some life things have happened and I might be officially retired from runDisney for real this time. I'm still thinking about what that means for me for running in general so I'm okay with taking the month off. We'll see what happens in August.

Edit: I did 15 barre classes this month, including 3 strength-focused classes. So I promise I am getting my exercise in, just doing it in a different way.

July: 56 miles; avg 9:15 pace
June: 40 miles
May: 31 miles
April: 9 miles
March 41 miles
February 79 miles
January 88 miles

I'm back! After feeling good and my main goal being to not get injured, I hurt my knee in late March. I saw a sports doctor through school and they told me some exercises and advised not to run for a month. I thought I was going to get away with it, but I could see my fitness go down in the last week off on my watch. Then when I restarted in late April I did a super gradual build up. My knee felt good but I clearly was not in as good shape as over the winter. Given all that and running in the TX heat now it's taken me this long to feel like I'm back where I was in February.

I started my first training plan. It shouldn't be too intense, and I don't have an official race when it ends in October. I may just run the distance around my neighborhood, but I'm interested to see how I respond to prescribed distances and paces.

Supposedly in the 70’s or something, ski Utah put up a sign at the Denver airport that read, “if you were in Utah you would be skiing by now”

Heavy on the supposedly, but it’s not too much hyperbole in that statement

The current was bonkers! Someone in my tri group ran some rough calculations and estimates the down current legs took 6-8 minutes, the up current ones over twice that much time. They looked like they were in one of those endless pools.

I've been in a funk the last few weeks, and ended up skipping a few runs, which I don't like doing. I need to shake this off so I can get serious about training. We're going to Disney this weekend, so hopefully that's all it takes.
We're in a heat warning here, and T+D is supposed to be 150 when I would usually run tonight, so I might change my hm intervals tonight to just an easy run.
