I've read a few threads discussing the rentee setting the point price rather than the renter. Found it interesting, never really ran into it...until yesterday.
Somebody had posted they were seeking a standard view studio for early December. That's my home resort, I had roughly that amount of points left after my vacation bookings, so I PM'd them. Gave the standard warning that std. view might not be available, be prepared to have to get preferred. Then said I'd be happy to check availability, cost will be $12 for standard view, $11 for preferred plus any PayPal fees if they paid that way.
No response, but I happened to glance over the rental board and see the thread back at the top with, "Still looking for somebody with availability. I'm willing to pay $10 a point, but only through PayPal with a credit card."
Hope you save your $90...
Sorry, had to vent.
But I really don't get it. You're asking somebody to rent you their points, which I'm willing to do. You're asking a rather narrow audience as you're relying on that person's home resort window. Am I wrong in thinking that type of request carries a premium? The requested $10 a point and not covering any PayPal credit card fees drives the price down around $9-ish (didn't do the math). Seems kind of backwards to me.

Seems you are the one who is confused. Why do you feel the need to vent???? You made an offer and they rejected it. Guess what, they will win in the end because someone will rent to them for $10. I'm with boatboatboat and others that $10 is to low. Problem is people still rent for that price. Deals take place every day in all facets of life. Nothing wrong with you asking $12 and nothing wrong with the person passing on $12. Really what is wrong with the person passing on your offer? Please help me out because I see nothing wrong on someone trying to get the best deal.
