The Olympics

I have a funny story about curling. I was talking with an acquaintance about one of our cousins who was a curling champion in Quebec. The other person knew someone who was too!

We talked for about 20 minutes when I realized his version of curling and mine were two different sports! He was talking about WEIGHT lifting!

I like curling if only for the sense of antiquity of it. ::yes::

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Curling is great. :) And as mentioned just earlier, far funner when you understand it.

As a side note to team spirit, the Olympics, sports and sportsmanship ((you can see it coming can't you...)) -- One of my nieces had a Banner hockey game (Completely undefeated all season) the other day and here's a conversation that took place walking back to the car between Niece 1 (in banner game) & Niece 2 (younger sister who is beyond talented playing with the boys 2 years older than her and often offering game play suggestions to her older sister lol ).

Niece one: "So what do you think about that?! We got the Banner."
Niece two: "Eh. It was a boring game --- but do you want to know the best part of it?"
Niece one: "Sure" as she shrugs off her sister's comments of a boring game.
Niece two: "That shot you took. Where you raised the puck and hit the girl in the head and she collapsed to the ice. That was the best part of the game."
Niece one: "Thanks. I'll take that as a complement."

:lmao::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl2:

In case you wondered... the girl hit is OK. :)

Wow Team Martin is curling an amazing game this morning! This curl win will make up for the hockey loss? :lmao:

BOBBY-LU better me in net in the next game as Brodeur, IMO, has lost the right to be in net after the fiasco last night. :headache::scared1:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: OMG!!! I know I'm not supposed to laugh but that's funnier than hell!

So then? Canada better have a new net! What the HECK was that?

Have a friend who used to play hockey. He of course, is beyond ecstatic at the win...

Good grief!!! Did you see what the Russian woman (skate dancer) was wearing???! :scared1: Or not wearing as the case may be?

Whew! Fanning...fanning... LOL

Oh it's even better when you know the young one is 7 LOL and oh so full of wisdom :rotfl: the scarier part if that she looks like an angel :littleangel: but we know the true Niece 2. ;) :rolleyes1

yeah yeah my American friends made certain to send me GO USA to my facebook knowing I was ticked LOL :headache:

I am waiting to see the replay of the Ice Dancing as I was out; Colbert is also showing the episodes he filmed in Vancouver this week. I set the PVR so I can watch with my hubby when he gets home from work late tonight.

Another distinctive difference is that Canada provides civil liberties for all and not just a chosen few.

I actually thought the piece was well done. ::yes::

I remember visiting the many countries of the World Expo all those years ago. I was a little kid and enjoyed saying that I'd been to this country and that country... after we saw a film there O! Canada (it was the first film in the round that we'd ever seen) my father corrected me and said that having been to Cananda was the honor.

wow what a great Ski Cross race. Congrats to all the medallists.... It's nice to see a local girl win a Gold medal.

OK a Whistler girl but still that's local enough. :) She did go to school here at UBC so I'll claim her. :cool1:

There was a expose on her yesterday and she talked about an essay she wrote at UBC and the essay was essentially a letter to the IOC telling them they should allow SkiCross to the Olympics and here she is a few years later in the first ever Ski Cross event and winning gold. There's foresight for you!

Tonight the eyes will be glued to both hockey and to figure skater Rochette whose mother had a heart attack and died here in Vancouver day before yesterday. Amazing that she is continuing on; but she is doing it for her mother and because being on the ice is where she probably feels the most freedom.

Oh and... LOOK it's snowing on the mountain! Go Figure -- darn that El Nino.

Mens curling is doing great. The womens did good too.

Did any one watch the award cermony for the ice dancing?? That was really cool. But the russians were a bit off (costumes/choice of dance). Although the american team, she creeps me out a little. Something about her eyes. ::shudder::
But I really liked the scots final dance.

All I can say so far tonight with the hockey game is.. "LOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUU!"

((In case you wondered whenever Luongo touches the puck that is what we all cheer in Vancouver when he normally plays with the Canucks.... and since he is playing in his normal home rink for the Olympics he gets the same LOOUUU respect :) We are NOT saying BOO! :goodvibes :happytv:

Oh gosh, did you see what happened to the Netherlands? I so would not want to be that coach!

Another gold for Canada!!!!

Good game today USA... Guess we will meet you in the finals. ;) We just need to beat Russia first :scared1::scared1:

Just finished watching speed skating -- what a wonderful end of a career for Clara Hughes to get Bronze and her 6th Olympic medal in her last race ever. What an amazing career with multiple medals in both Summer and Winter Olympics. She won today at the age of 38! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

She is being interviewed right now and so humble. She was asked by the interviewer if we could now call her, "Can we now consider you Canada's greatest athlete?." And her reply was akin to, "No. I consider myself just a Canadian" and thanked the crowd for their cheers, "you gave me wings" she said of the cheering crowd. :thumbsup2

Now that is utter class and sportsmanship, unlike some others... :sad2:

ROMP on Russia! Ya' heah? :rotfl:

Did anybody see Rochette's skate last night? How emotional... she did so well and had such composure and grace in heartbreak. I hope she can win a medal in honour of her greatest supporter her Mother who passed away of a heart attack just a couple of days ago. There were so many tears in the stands, on the coaches, both her own and other coaches, who watched on, one of the view boxes was filled with other Canadian skaters there to support Rochette who were teary eyed and of course Rochette herself.

There has been word from her coaches that Rochette will address the media and the nation after the final skate is done and I am glad that the media has respected her wishes to leave her alone right now. I so hope she can for her family and herself win a medal to dedicate to her mother.

Today it was in the media that the two mogul medalists are each donating $25K to charities. Heil to a charity that aids women in poorer countries get an education and Bilodeau to Canadian Association of Paediatric Health Centres in support of research into cerebral palsy. Such class acts hearing stories like this is what warms my heart.

Good job to all the athletes who so generously give of their time, name and monies to charities.

haha people think the hockey feud between Canada and US is big -- Canada and Russia is chaos. LOL

It's going to be a crazy game! I guarantee you it will be the most watched event in Canadian history tonight to date. There were reports that 3/4 of Canada tuned in to the Canada/USA game the other day. They are speculating the number to be higher tonight. Can you tell that hockey is the most important thing on our minds as Canadians. :worship::worship:

... speaking of which it's time for me to take off my Canada sweatshirt and put on my jersey so I can sit my butt down and watch the game!

I did not see Rochette last night, but saw clips of it today. Well, saw is not correct. Who could see through streaming tears.

What an incredible skater and woman.

I do hope she manages to win a medal. ::yes::

Yes I too was teary eyed. I felt her pain as we had numerous losses in the past 2 years in my family.

LOUUUUUUUUUUU!! -- sorry I am in hockey mode watching the game now. :cheer2::happytv:

SCORE!!!

Edit: WOAH! 3 goals by Canada and there;s still 6 mins left in the 1st period!

Edit Pt2: UBER WOAH! 7-3 going into the 3rd... this is an insane game! GO BOYS

YES!!!! First win against the Russians in forever!

Gold and Silver in Woman's bobsled for Canada, Bronze for USA! Great job to all three winning teams!
