Tonight we will have leftover jambasta. We didn't have the tomato basil bread. I got it out of the pantry and it had grown a fur coat

WFD at your house?

About what age is this going to happen? My son is 11 and he has always loved food way too much-taking after his dear old mom!

Since I only have Kyle I'm not sure but it probably is different for some. He started growing/eating spurts at around 13.

WFD tonight - Meatballs & spaghetti, broccolli and garlic bread.

Lauren - How are you this morning?

Have a great day everyone!

Morning all. Not sure WFD tonight--maybe something pasta related.

Well, I'm taking the plunge this morning. I'm buying paint and supplies to repaint our kitchen. I'll have to do the before and after pics. Every wall in our house (and I mean every wall) is a nice color of "builder's beige"--gotta love spec houses. So, I've decided I need to spice things up a bit, and start with the kitchen, since I spend the most time there. The wall color is called 'briquette" (a muted red with orange undertones) with some accents in an espresso color. I am leaving the trim the off-white it's painted, b/c it's the same as the cabinet color. Wish me luck!

Good luck Steph! That's quite a big job, don't forget to take those before pics!!

Morning Y'all,

Last night I fixed the Queen's Royal Chicken, mmm-mmn good!!!! Thanks Kathy that is a delicious & easy recipe!! I cut up the chicken breast & served it over pasta, so I could send some to DD"s house. I wasn't finish cooking it when Alexis' Mom came to pick her up, she begged to take home the sauce (that she kept asking for tastes of) & asked her Mom if she'd fix her noodles for her sauce!

I saw my DD on TV last night! She did an interview with the local cable company to promote her company (planet beach). It was shocking & amazing to see how professional & just plain old grown-up she seems! Oh I'm getting all teary now.

Tonight's dinner will be the Queen's Chicken again, I had made extra sauce so that I could share but it made a ton of yummy chicken & pasta!

Good Luck on that Steph! The colors sound great! Please take some pics for us!

Sheryl, that is fabulous! I know you were proud. I guess since you are cooking, the renovations are going well in your kitchen. Be sure to post a picture or two when it is all done.

Stephanie - good luck with the painting. I am terrible at that, I think because I don't have the patience to do it correctly.

Dislifer - I think my brother starting eating Mom and Dad out of house and home around age 13 or 14. DS turns 12 next month so I figure I have a year or two max before we will need a second job to pay for the groceries.

Tonight we are having Chicken Divan. I made Paula Deen's eclair cake last night and it is in the fridge setting up so I will let you know how it turns out. From the moans and groans Kenny made polishing off the remaining frosting, I think at least the frosting will be good.

Hope everyone has a great day. Lauren, check in and let us know how you are.

Gretchen

Hey All!

Thanks for all the well wishes.

I am doing OK this am...my stomach calmed down...I go for the other part of the test in a couple hours. Its a quickie - about 5 minutes.

We are going to see Transformers tonight and Tom mentioned going out to eat...probably Pizza Hut. Not the greatest pizza but hey, no cooking!!!

I will check back when I have more time...gotta go clean the house since Andrew is having a friend over...not the regular neighbor kid who is used to my clutter!!!

Have a great day!

Stephanie- Good luck on the painting! I am supposed to paint this summer but I keep putting it off. I am another without patience.

Sheryl- You have every right to be proud of your DD! One minute you they are "kids" and then all of a sudden you are forced to see them as they really are and wonder "when did it happen?" Pride and a little sadness at eh same time.

I am not sure what we are going to do for dinner. I think DD and family are going to the fireman's carnival tonight. I'll need to see who is home to eat before I cook.

Just manwiches and chips for us today. DD has a cheer private class at 5. We have eaten out way too much this week.

Trying to catch up on everything I missed yesterday!

Laura - Have a great time tomorrow, check this out on the muffaletta:

http://www.colorpro.com/great-sandwiches/muffuletta/history.htm

Becky - So glad you're feeling better. I want a pic of that clam roll girl! Have a great time!

And we wonder why we have weight issues here in Nola?! :lmao:

Well, my good mood was short lived. We did get to play outside and I got my burgers and dogs grilled--but then of course the rain started again. But what made me the madest was that at 6:30pm DH calls to say he's going out with people from work for dinner. Normally, I wouldn't mind, but he could've at least called earlier, I already had dinner plated and on the table waiting for him. Anyone have an extra freezer I could use???:rolleyes1

Kathy--thanks for the freezer offer. ;) I'm feeling a little better now, had a little cocktail and some key lime pie. Key lime pie is one of my "happy" things, it was nice to find a slice to indulge in tonight!

Glad you found a solution that only involved taking things out of the freezer instead of puttin hubby into it!!;)

Here are some photos of tonight's dinner--the lighting was funky for some reason, so sorry for that:

butter lettuce, tomato, and grilled haloumi salad with lime:

corn on the cob:

I have a question, do you guys prefer the photos as links, or would you rather I put them in the post? I am not sure what kind of computers you all have and I know it can be a real PITA to have photos in a post if you have a slower machine. Flickr does automatically resize, but I wanted to check what you thought before adding them to the message.

Let me know, and I will post tomorrow's clam roll accordingly! ;)

Love your pics no matter how you put them in!! Just keep putting them up, pleeze! I wish I could figure out how to do the link with photo bucket & to resize the pics. Just can't get it all working right.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY MARISA!!!!

Kathy- I forgot to tell you- in my shopping extravaganza(according to Rick) on Monday I found Sweet Baby Rays at Super Walmart in Harrahan and at Save A Center on Clearview. Both only had a couple flavors, but I was so suprised I told Rick. His comment was "So now we're shopping for them too?":headache: I love you honey, now shut up and push the cart like a good boy.

Sheryl- Last night on Throwdown with Bobby Flay they did Kentucky Hot Browns! As soon as I manage a low(er) fat version I'll make them here and invite you over...Heck all ya'll come! I'll show ya what comfort food was like where I grew up! (yep, I'm a NOLA transplant. Grew up in Louisville, KY)

Last night I was bad and had a huge steak:rolleyes1 but had baked sweet potatoes(plain) and steamed corn on the cob.

Tonight is pork chops someway with more steamed veggies.

Anyone know of something that looks like bacon and tastes like bacon without all the fat that's in bacon?[/
QUOTE]

Lori, Tell Rick we appreciate y'all shopping for ya girls on the DIS!! :lmao:

Oh I missed the show. It be great for us Nola gals to eat some Kentuckian comfort food, especially if there's a little bourbon to go along with it! Congrats on the weight loss!!:thumbsup2 You're doing a great job! Have you made a low fat version of fried green tomatoes come out right yet? Please post it when you think you've got it!

SHeryl: Have you found a light? Is all OK with hubby?
[/QUOTE]

Lauren, Nothing figured out on my kitchen light yet. Everyone has different ideas on what I should put up there!:confused3

Thanks for asking about my DH! He is physically okay, his lack of being ability to do things for himself, is causing some new problems & it's really getting him down emotionally. On top of that, we still don't have our van back, part of the computer system was bad & had to be taken out again & there waiting the part. Then even when we get the van, they can't get anyone scheduled to teach him to drive it! There are only a few people in the country who train on this system. So with that & wating for the state's approval on the bathroom things have been kind of rough around here.

Hi everyone! Thanks for the hugs and kind words. I'll post some more of the requested recipes tonight. :thumbsup2
I thought I was going to die from the heat yesterday!! It was 102 degrees here yesterday and it's supposed to be about 100 today. Who knew it could get so hot in Oregon?! I just had sandwiches last night.
I'm thinking of maybe just having a salad or grilling a steak with the coffee and spice rub I got from Williams Sonoma. It sounds strange but it's really good. :)

Minnie, 102 in Oregon?!!!! Holy Cow, I would never have thought it would get that hot up there. Try to stay cool! Outback added a steak with a coffee/spice rub to it's menu. DH tried it even though I told him it sounded strange. Turns out he (and you) were right coffee & spice are great on steak!

I am secretly motivated. I got Rick to agree to a big Disney vow renewal during food and wine fest. We have to pay off debt and lose too many pounds to name- those are the rules. So if I can power through the cravings I'll be doing ok. Last night I wanted chocolate sooooo bad. We have a friend that goes to Scotland all the time for work that brought me back these caramel and chocolate covered shortbread candies that are killer. There's 3 packages left that I won't dare throw out(cause I can't get them here). I took them down and looked at them and then ate fat free chocolate pudding.:rotfl: NOT as good.

So with enough motivation and support we'll all be at a Illuminations dessert party for our vow renewal-cause I gotta share with my WFD sistas!:lmao:

Wooohoo!!! :lmao: That is a great motivator! For my own selfish reasons, (cus I want to come!) put those shortbread cookies away!!! ;)

The picture of the clam roll is not the best. I love taking photos at home, but fell a little weird about it in public. Here it is anyway:

And now, for today's ultimate food pictures:

That clam roll looks great. But Liam and Cailli look even better!!!!

Lauren, Hope you feel better & things go smoothly today. How long will it take to get any news back from the test?

Gretchen

Gretchen, Thanks I was definitely a proud Mama!! The kitchen is finished except for deciding on a light. Which might mean some sheetrock repair & painting, depending on what I decide to put up there. I sure thought I posted some pics here, I meant to take some of the floor too but hadn't done that. I scan back & see if I posted the pics here, don't want to bore everyone to death with my kitchen! ;)

I am not sure what we are going to do for dinner. I think DD and family are going to the fireman's carnival tonight. I'll need to see who is home to eat before I cook.

Nancy, I was so nervous about the interview, worrying about how she'd do, etc., just I did when she was a kid! But then seeing it shocked the daylights out of me! She's not a little kid anymore that's for sure. She was so confident, self assured, knew what the heck she was talking about! I'm proud, I know this is what the parenting job is all about, but it just makes you miss your baby!

Sheryl- I think I've got the green tomatoes figured out but A&P hasn't gotten any greenies in for awhile now. If I can find one to try I'm doing a nonfat milk bath and crusting them with panko and low fat Kraft parmesan. Nonstick skillet with a little pam for cooking. I figure that should give me the crispy outside still and not change it too much.

Waiting is the worst. His frustration tolerance must be very high because I cannot imagine how difficult is is no to be in control of when you can take a training class or having to send your vehicle to be repaired when it was already repaired or waiting for approvals in your own home.

Gretchen, I thought I posted some pics of the finished kitchen, but I've looked back & most pics seem to be of Mario?!!:lmao:

So here's a couple of shots of the kitchen without Mario!

I'm also waiting for ADT to come change my alarm pad. Mario with either repair the wallpaper on that wall or I might paint that section by the other door the same color as the arched wall. I'll have to take some pics of the finished floor.

Thanks Nancy, It's just all a bit much right now. Our own personal difficulties in handling his muscular dystrophy as things gradually worsen. Then trying to get the van back, bathroom renovations having to deal with the state on those. The stress level has been pretty bad around here lately. I appreciate the hugs!

shovan Your pictures of the kitchen even minus Mario is beautiful.
 to you and your husband hopefully the house and van issues are resolved quickly.

Well, I'm taking the plunge this morning. I'm buying paint and supplies to repaint our kitchen.

I've had all the paint and supplies in to repaint my kitchen for a couple months now. That's as far as I've gotten though. Good luck!

I will check back when I have more time...gotta go clean the house since Andrew is having a friend over...not the regular neighbor kid who is used to my clutter!!!

This made me laugh. I always clean the house before Liam's playdates too. I don't know why I bother. The house is destroyed again within 30 minutes of the friend's arrival.

I am glad you are feeling better this morning.

Congratulations to your daughter and to you for raising such a confident, smart girl! I hope her grad school program is going better for her.

Tonight's dinner is going to be a hodgepodge of things I have left in the house. I'm not sure what I'll find, but I know I have three ears of corn, some green beans, and tomatoes.

Tonight is leftovers - DH plays until 930 anyways so I have a choice of pumpkin ravioli, chicken fingers, hot dogs, or pizza =)
