Mornin all!

Sounds like everyone is already off to a start on their weekends!

DisKim- yikes o rama....I don't even know what to say about your school.

SL- Lucas just gets cuter and cuter!

lissawynn- I know what you mean about the gymbucks not going far with the full priced stuff. I did only buy FOUR things with my 2 gymbucks yesterday. 3 full priced things for M and a pair of reduced cords for Sam. I am going to buy something for Joshua with the last Gymbuck i still have... I'm afraid to buy ahead now for Molly cause she's just so big, so I didn't want to buy any of the winter stuff.

Well, I am going to scoot cause we are going up to Seattle today! The stupid army won't release the guys to go any further than 50 miles from Ft Lewis (yeah, go risk your lives for a year- we trust you to do that, but don't trust you to go home) so we are going up there. I haven't been to Seattle in 10 years even though it's only 2.5 hours away. :confused3 We're going to lunch at the space needle today while everyone else is at the Seahawks/Bears game. ::yes:: Happy Anniversary to us! :flower2:

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning everyone!

I should be downstairs cleaning the basement, but I just can't bring myself to do it. :teeth: John Paul has slept great the past two nights which has been so wonderful for my sleep deprivation! :hyper: He went from 7 p.m. until 1:40 a.m. and then slept until 6:30 in the morning. I think the soy formula has made all the difference.

Alice28 - Have fun today in Seattle! When does your DH get to come home for good? Happy Anniversary too! :flower2:

Nucpharm - Best wishes to you and your DH in your decisions about moving or not. It must be tough to have your DH work so much. Also, have fun on your Disney trip. You all must be getting so excited! :sunny:

SL - I love the picture of Lucas in his carseat. He has the greatest smile and the most beautiful eyes! What a cutie! :goodvibes

Lisawynn - Have fun tonight at your DH's party. Be sure to post a picture! :wizard:

Gotta run. The girls are downstairs sorting through their stuff to see what they want to keep, donate, etc. It is a little too quiet down there so I need to see what they are up to. Have a great day everyone! :flower3:

The beauty of having a small house is that I'm done my cleaning already. Jimmy had some cereal, is dressed, and is watching something on PBS about animals (I think it's Zoboomafoo?). DH is on his way home from work, so I'm going to B&BW to get shower favors for Jen's baby shower.

The more I think about our WDW trip in July, the more I think we should fly. I've been looking at flight prices, and we can fly out of Philly or Newark for about $200 round trip. How do you all feel about flying with the kids? I would hold Jimmy on my lap or my dad would. I love my dad, but I don't know if I could manage 22 hours in the car with him. He's only 56, but sometimes he acts as if he's 75. He's very overly cautious when it comes to the kids (which I understand). I just think our trip would be so much better if we flew. What do you all think?

Alice - Have a great trip and a great lunch with your DH. I would love to visit Seattle some day.

nupcharm - I hope you and DH can work out something that's good for your family. DH used to work a ton of overtime at his last job, and I was alone a lot. I have my family (and his) 5 minutes away, but it was still really hard sometimes. I'd feel like I was alone with Jimmy all the time. Now that he's older we can do so much more stuff. When he was a baby I'd just sit and watch him sleep. I hope things work out!

SL - Lucas is such a happy guy! Does he have dimples? Jimmy has 3 (two in each cheek like I have and one in his chin like DH). Great pic!

Lisawynn - I vote for flying down to Orlando! I drove on our last trip which was not bad at all, but the flight is so much easier and worth every penny. We also had Independence Air at the time and I could get flights to Orlando around $100 round trip. Sadly, they are no longer operating. Anyways, I digress. The only downside to flying is that you can't pack as much as you could with a car. With a baby, it was so nice to have our car with his stroller, etc.

Good luck with whatever you decided. $200 round trip is a great price! :sunny:

lissawyn--I second flying! 22hrs. in a car is a really long time--our kids had it with the car after 16hr. trip over christmas. Also, with the price of gas now, flying is sometimes just as economical if you can get a good fare. The only drawback of flying with kids is that your space to bring "stuff" is pretty limited. I suppose you could ship stuff (diapers, food, etc) to WDW ahead of time. I've never done that but I've heard of lots of people that do. We always brought our own carseat and checked it with our other luggage. WE used the carseat bag to pack diapers, wipes, etc. Your DS should be at a great at a great age for flying. DD was a great traveller until she was about 18 months--she wanted down to walk/run around. Now, we'll see how she travels next week. Since she's over 2, she has her own seat. We got her her own rolling suitcase and with the dvd player and colors and coloring books hopefully it will be a pleasant flight. Good luck with whatever you decide.

lissawynn - I would definitely fly. We drove a couple of times from NJ. I hate flying becasue I hate having to pack lightly and worry about what the other people on the plane think of my children. Still, the car ride is terrible. Also, flying is safer than driving.

Jill - I'm cleaning my basement today too. We are also trying to throw out toys. Emily is good about it, but Alex won't part with anything.

I'm trying to decide if we should go to DH's niece's sparkler (some dance thing) exhibition today. We're not done with the basement and I hate to leave a project half done.

nucpharm - I fell asleep before I could see the 20/20 thing on education yesterday. I wanted to see it. Good luck with your decision with your DH. We are going through a similar situation. I really want to relocate to NC, but DH is hesitant. He likes his new job and I think it keeps him away from home too much without a whole lot of compensation for it. At least you would be moving closer to family. We would be moving away from most of our family.

Alice28 - Have a great time today! Why won't they just let your DH go home yet? That's ridiculous! I hope he can go home soon.

Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi everyone  ,
I have been down and out with a migraine since last night so I haven't been on the computer.

Lisawynn,
Have a good time tonight! If you can, flying is the way to go. We have done it both ways and it is just so much easier to be there in 4 hours vs. 22.

SL,
Lucas is such a cutie! Thanks for sharing the picture.

Robin,
I hope you have a fabulous weekend in Seattle with your DH.

Diskim,
Wow. What a scary situation for your school. It's amazing how different things are since I was in school. It's sad, actually.

Nucpharm,
Your comment about house arrest made me LOL :) . I hope you found something fun to do.

Jill,
Good news about the insurance. I'm sure you'll be nervous until the check is in your hand, though.

Hi Gems, Tasha, Hillbeans, Tamie, J &D, and all the other moms :wave2:.

Tomorrow we are going out for my grandparents 57th wedding anniversary. I just hope the weather isn't too bad since it's supposed to snow tomorrow. Of course today it was about 60 degrees and we didn't even need coats. Ahh, New England weather ;) .

Well, I hear Katrina starting to fuss for her dinner so I guess I should go feed her. Have a good weekend everybody.

Here I am, in Seattle! Molly is sleeping and DH is taking the boys to the pool to swim. Shortly I am going to indulge in a bath....

I am SO ANGRY with Ramada and Expedia I could spit. Basically I just flushed $200 down the toilet. I booked thru expedia as I have had good experience with them before. We get to the hotel and it's a nightmare. Broken smoke alarms, no fire extinguishers, trash everywhere, broken outside door that ONLY hotel guests are supposed to be able to access with their card, but it's broken so anyone can open it....I call Expedia to complain and say I want my money back....the ramada managers won't play ball and refused! Expedia says their hands are tied. We were so Pi**ed. We switched hotels anyway and for $45 more a night we are in a pretty luxurious radission. Anyone have any experience in prying your money back from expedia? The Guard is reimbursing us for the room, but I doubt they will reimburse us for the two rooms.

DH comes home for GOOD on Thursday. Big hooha ceremony on Friday with the governor and everything. I will try and link any local articles they have for you guys if you want to read about it.

We decided to eat lunch at Rain Forest Cafe instead of going into downtown today and it was fun. The kids loved it and remembered it from Disney.

Oh, and the other great part of our day....DH hasn't worn a seatbelt in like 1 year.....we pull out of the hotel driveway, drive 25 seconds and he realizes he needs to put it on...after a state trooper saw him....we got pulled over and he got ticketed!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE WAS SO PI**ed cause he tried to explain to the officer(DH used to be a cop and asked if he might please step out of the car to talk to the trooper to explain how he had been out of the country for a year) and the officer said no in this total snotty tone...so on top of the $200 for the crappy hotel room, we have a $100 ticket to pay for. Gotta love our trip so far!

But, I'm trying just to roll with it and we all are loving having DH here.

lissawynn- by all means, FLY!

Alice28 - I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles with the hotel and the ticket. Yikes! It sounds like you had quite the day! I hope tomorrow is better for you. I would try and write to Ramada's headquarters and let them know about how terrible their hotel was. Maybe they might refund you.

Do share the articles on the ceremony on Friday with the governor! That sounds so neat! :sunny:

Valerie - I hope that your migraine is better.

DisKim - How did your basement cleaning go? We've still got loads left to do. The girls really need to get rid of lots of toys! I don't think John will want to play with Barbies when he gets older so they must go! :teeth:

I'm off to bed. I think I strained a muscle in my back from lifting boxes today. We're off to the Smithsonian tomorrow! :sunny:

Hey Mommies.
I have not posted in a while, but I've been reading as often as I can.
Hillbeans: Sorry to hear about your FIL.
Alice: So glad that you are with DH. I can't believe how long you two were apart - Happy Anniversary!
Bellacam: Happy Birthday! Enjoy!
Jill: Keeping my fingers crossed on the insurance issue and that the positive decision is firm.
SL: Love all the new pics of Lucas. His eyes are stunning. How cute he is in his big boy seat.
Val: How sweet your grandparents are celebrating 57 years!
Lissawyn: Another vote for flying.
Diskim: How awful about your school...scary!!
Hello to everyone else I missed.
Sorry for the lack of posting lately. I've been so stressed at work that I just come home do my chores and go to bed.

I'm afraid not too much good news around here. Jace was sick again, and I'm sick again with the laryngitis/cough thing. Work is totally out of control and I'm completely overwhelmed. This morning we woke up to a flooded basement - AGAIN! I think it's time to call the plummer as it's happening a lot lately and steps DH has taken haven't stood all the rain/snow lately. DH is at the laundromat now as we are afraid to run the washer and we are up to our eyeballs in laundry.

On a good note:
- We finally got the car seats today. We both got the Britax Roundabouts. Jace looks so funny in it (but of course cute :)). It's such a huge seat. I'll have to post a pic soon.
- We finally got the night time pee under control. We went up to a size 4 diaper and added a "diaper doubler" at night. A few nights waking up dry has been wonderful.
- I have monday off!! I'm so excited to have an extra day with Jace. I'm really having a hard time again being a full-time working mom. I was doing ok for a bit, but I just want to be home with him so badly. I wish things were different financially for us. I remain optimistic, but realistic.

Well, off to bed as I feel cruddy.
Have a good one ladies.

Sorry for the back to back post, but I forgot to ask something.

Jace has had enlarged lymph nodes on his neck and back of head. Last week when we took him to the dr and got meds for a rash infection they said it was related to the infection. The rash is gone, but the lymph nodes are still enlarged. I've read that it's common for them to be there for up to a few weeks-months after an infection. Anyone's baby ever have this happen? I'm going to call the Dr. to make an appt for monday if they don't go down by then. but just thought I'd see if anyone had any experience with that.

Joats - I hope that you and Jace feel better soon! Glad to hear the nighttime diaper leakage is better! :teeth:

Good luck with the basement issues. I hope it gets fixed quickly for you! :wizard:

ETA: Lymph nodes - the girls' lymph nodes would be enlarged for a little while when they were sick. They were older though. Definitely check with the doctor though since Jace is still young.

Alice 28- I'm so sorry about your day. I would definitely continue to press expedia about this issue. I would also talk to the manager of the Ramada. How awful!

Joats - I hope Jace feels better soon! I'm right there with you about the working thing. I've been having my daycare issues as well which doesn't help. I just have a bad feeling that I can't kick and I feel desperate. I want to be home with him so badly but there is no way to do it financially. I love that I a have Monday off with him but it makes me realize what I'm missing

Jill - I laughed when I read your post. My basement cleaning did not go well. It looks worse than it did before and I am getting panicky that it will never get done. We should be put in jail for the sheer amount of toys we have. It's disgusting. My 5-year-old keeps pulling stuff out of the garbage bags (even if it's girl stuff). I've got to get back to work. We have to be at a party at 4 pm and I am determined to be finished by then.

I had a great idea yesterday. DH and I have been discussing relocating to NC (as you all know). He is a little hesitant because he likes his new job and I'm ready to sell the house and go. This is causing some tension between us lately. Yesterday, I realized we have a 4 day weekend coming up for President's day so I decided to book a flight to NC so we can check it out. I realized it was silly to discuss moving to a place we've never been to. So, we decided to make it a romantic getaway and we are going to stay at a Victorian bed and breakfast in Raleigh. I'm excited to go but nervous to leave the kids for a couple of days. I feel like I'll go through withdrawl symptoms if I don't see their faces.

Good morning! Jimmy was wide awake at 7:45 this morning, so no sleeping in for me today!
DH and I had fun at his work party. Dinner was pretty good, and I got to meet the people he talks about when he comes home. We didn't really stay long. We're not drinkers, so when the other people headed to the bar, we came home. Jim really didn't want to stay longer as he was going through baby withdrawl.
Today is my dad's bday dinner at my sister's. I've got the pineapple upsidedown cake in the oven and have started my Sunday wash marathon.

Alice28 - We had problems with expedia when DH and I went to WDW in 2003. They never sent us return tickets! I didn't really realize this b/c it was the first time I'd flown "alone" (without my Nonnie). They didn't charge us, but we did have to go through a practical strip search as we had replacement tickets. I hope you get some of your money back!

DisKim - Visiting NC is a great idea! Does your DH have a job that will allow him to relocate easily? I know my sister loved it there. She's going to be moving back there someday. She hates Philly (even though she's only 1 1/2 hours from home).

joats - I hope Jace is feeling better today!

I'd better get back to work. I have lesson plans to do, spelling tests to grade, and lots of laundry to wash!

I mentioned the flying stuff to DH last night. He's not too keen on the idea of Jimmy and me flying. I know if that's what we want to do, we're going to do it. I just keep thinking about my dad and the 22 hour car ride. It won't be pretty by the time we pull into the WL.

AAAHHH!!! DH informed me last night that he "saw" that I had been talking to my mommy friends during the day. I asked him what he meant--he jumped on this thread yesterday to see what I had been up to while he was at work! :scared1: Good thing I didn't post anything unkind! :rotfl2: So, DH if you're lurking around today--Have a great day at work! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Alice28--That's terrible about the hotel. We've had problems with Ramada in general before--meaning that their website was very misleading as to what the hotel actually offered. My parents came up here last summer for a 10 vacation. On the day before they flew out, we decided to stay at a Ramada Inn that had what they called a "indoor water park", and supposedly had won this major award. It was IMHO a dump. The rooms looked like they had been decorated in the 70s, the toilet was maybe 1 1/2 feet from the ground (which for a prego woman as I was, made it really difficult to get up and down)! Then the waterpark, was awful. :crazy2: They did have a couple of indoor waterslides, but once again it looked like they had been built in the 70s with absolutely no upkeep. We have stayed at a Waterpark hotel down the road from the ramada, but chose not to stay there because it was a little more expensive. I will definitely spend the extra $$$ for the other hotel! And about the ticket, OMG!!!!! It's amazing that your DH has been serving his country for the last year or more, and this is how he's treated after he's been back a few days! :headache: Shame, shame! Maybe you can contest
the ticket or something!

Diskim--Your trip sounds wonderful!!! :cool1: I wish DH and I could swing something like that. When DD was around 5 months, DH and I went to Las Vegas for 3 days to meet up with one of DH's college buddies. It was hard to leave DD, but it was so nice to have that one on one time. ::yes:: Hopefully after your trip, your DH will see why you want to relocate to NC.

joats--sorry about your basement. That is one of my greatest fears, is to go downstairs and it be full of water! Hope you can resolve it fast! :flower:

lissawyn--good luck with your dinner tonight--Pineapple upsidedown cake! Yummy!!

Jill--Sorry about the strained muscle :daisy: I can sympathize with basement cleaning, too. I just think if we ever do move back south, where basements are non-existant, I don't know what we'll do with all our stuff. We have exponentially more stuff than we did 4 years ago when we moved here!

Valerie--Hope the migraine is better soon! I never have had one, thank goodness, but my mom and sister get them often.

DisneyPhD--question about your recent trip--You said you brought your double stroller. This will be our first major trip with ours. Did you have a rain cover for it in case of the occasional Florida downpour? I'm debating on buying the cover, but I don't want our new stroller soaked if it does rain.

Well, DD is begging, no whining (which I cannot stand) to watch TV. So I better go entertain her. this is DH's last day of crazy hours! :cool1: So, hopefully, we can see him soon! Have a great sunday, and for those off tomorrow, have a great holiday weekend! :sunny:

A stroller rain cover is a must. Esepcailly certian times of years. This year we brought it, but never had to take it out of the suitcase. However in past trips the stroller cover has saved the whole trip. Some days when it is chance of rain on and off we keep the cover on all day so when we come out of an atraction and it is pouring the stroller isn't all wet. Our stroller is a SBS stroller. It is an Peg pergo aira twin, we like it for the trip, small, but comfortable for the kids. It does well with not equal size children or just one kid too. In a pinch I have seen ponchos and shower curtains, but a rain cover is much more comfortable and less likely to form a leak. :goodvibes

My trip report is up and almost finished. :goodvibes

We're in Rochester, Minnesota right now, deciding what to do today so I figured I'd use the time to check-in here (much to my husband's dismay-there are days he wishes I never found these boards, but then he'll read something about a ride he likes and suddenly they're okay!).

Alice28, we had a problem with Expedia once when I went to Phoenix with my mom. We booked a concierge room, something we never do but it was a really cheap rate, only like $10 more a night than the regular room so we figured we'd splurge. Well we arrived and the hotel said "we can't give you a concierge room at that rate". We talked to the manager and no luck. Finally they said they'd give us a key to the concierge lounge, but a regular room so we said fine. They said to take it up with Expedia, and we did, but we never got our money back. They said something about concierge not being a guarantee or something bizarre, even though we paid for it. Ugh. Sorry you had to go through that too, especially with kids in tow cause I'm sure that made it that much more fun to switch hotels. And sorry about the ticket too. That's unbelievable. Hopefully you can contest it. My BIL is a cop and he said the majority of the time if you contest it you'll win cause usually the cop doesn't want to show up.

DisKim, have fun visiting NC. I think it's a great idea. That's why I'm going to some of my husband's interviews with him if it's a place I've never been to. He's all about just picking the hospital he likes best cause he "is the one working there so he has to be happy with the hospital." Well okay, yeah, I get that, but at the same time, he'll be gone all day, at least 5 days a week, so it's pretty important that I like the area that we'll be living in since I have to spend all my time there, his time outside the hospital is limited. Based on that, he declined some interviews cause they were in cities I didn't want to live in at all. So that's what I'm doing in Minnesota, and I think it really helped in Nashville cause I had never been there so didn't know if I'd be able to live there or not. Hopefully going to NC will help your husband realize it's a good move for you guys, or if it's not then I'm guessing you'd realize that too.

SL, love the picture of Lucas in his carseat. He seems very happy in it!

Nucpharm, I hope you end up getting to move closer to your family. I know what you mean about it being hard to be away from everyone and your husband works all the time so you're basically alone all day. I would love to live near my family, but that would mean moving to NJ and neither of us really want that so it probably won't happen. Well, except for maybe 3 years, but after that no NJ. I guess it's really hard though to leave a company you like for the unknown, especially when it means a big pay-cut.

Lissawynn, we don't really know what our first choice is. Well, my husband right now would say Cleveland, but he still has this Minnesota interview and a Tucson interview left. For me, I'd really like to stay in DC, but I know that he interviewed at better hospitals than GW so to say that I don't want to move seems selfish since I know it really wouldn't be in our best interest, just my convenience. Aside from DC, I don't know what my 2nd choice would be, either NYC or Cleveland I think. In NYC he's got 3 hospitals to choose from, Columbia, NYU, and Albert Einstein. He didn't like Albert Einstein that much at all so that will be low on his rank list. Columbia he wasn't thrilled with, but he'd still go there, and he really liked NYU a lot, probably 2nd to Cleveland. We'd live somewhere in NJ if he worked in NYC, and as much as neither of us love it there, it would only be for 3 years and my whole family is there so that would make it much more tolerable. I have family in Cleveland too so that wouldn't be too bad, plus my step-grandfather says he'll move to Cleveland if we go cause then he'd have us and my other cousins and he really spends the most time with the 2 of us (and my mom, but she already vetoed him moving in with her). I also have some family in Minnesota actually, but in the Minneapolis area, and we're about 1.5 hours south of there in a very tiny town. That's the only thing that makes me nervous about moving out here, that it's so remote. Oh, and for your Disney trip, I'd consider flying. We've never driven to WDW with Madison, but have driven to South Carolina and it was okay, but flying did seem much easier. You are limited in stuff, but I've never found it to be a problem. One thing though, I've never taken Madison as a lap baby and when she was 18 months I don't think that would have been an enjoyable thing. I don't advocate buying a seat for the safety aspect so much, but more cause at 18 months they're so wiggly and it's hard to hold them in your lap for 2 hours or so without them kicking, hitting the seat in front of you. I guess it depends on the kid though too. Yesterday we put Madison in her carseat and shortly after takeoff she fell asleep and slept the whole flight. No way would she do that in my arms, she just can never get comfortable with me holding her like she could as an infant. That's the only thing that I would think about cause it might make the flight almost as challenging as the drive.

Okay, I should get ready to go. Madison is bathed and getting dressed and I think we're going to drive to Iowa, just cause we've never been there before. Yesterday we went to the Mall of America and Madison loved the rides they have inside. Not a bad deal too cause the required chaperone rides free, so only the kid 'pays'.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: That's very funny, I hope that my DH never looks on here! He thinks I am strange anyway when I talk about my DIS friends! He doesn't "get" exchanges either!

I think we are off out for dinner tonight as DH has been out playing cars with his friends all day, I shouldn't really as I am trying to lose weight but what the heck!

DisKim - Great idea to visit NC, and turn it into a romantic break, try not to worry about the kids they will be fine. ::yes::
SL - I love the pic of Lucas in his new big seat! he looks so sweet!
Lissawynn - Sorry you didn't get your lie in today - 7.45 isn't bad though is it?
Joats - sorry about your basement what a nightmare.
Val- I hope your migraine gets better - I used to get them a lot before I was pregnant - they are no fun at all.
Robin -  I hope things perk up - at least you have your DH home now. ::yes::

Hi to everyone else that I have missed, I have got to fly and get Shelbys bottle before we go out.

Gems
xx

Just a quick check in before I do my lesson plans for the week.

Dad's dinner went very well and the food was delish! Jimmy did manage to bonk his head on my sister's marble-topped coffee table. He is kind of cranky tonight.

DH is not loving the idea of Jimmy and me flying to WDW. I have to tell you all, for $200 bucks, I'm on that plane. I cannot imagine another 22 hours car trip with the two kids (we did it last summer). I am anxious, as I don't really love flying, but I can manage it for the 2 3/4 hour trip.

Have a good night all! I'm off to do more school work!

Good evening ladies!

Well, we just got in a little bit ago from sightseeing in DC. The girls had a great time at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum and the American History Museum. We got to see part of the Dumbo ride and Tea cup ride from Disneyland! :goodvibes (My favorite thing was to see the Hope Diamond though!) They sure do have some pretty gems at the Smithsonian. :hyper: It is hard to believe that it has been two years since we've been to the museums. I think this summer we will try to be tourists in our own town. Today was fun.

Gems - Have fun going out to dinner tonight!

Justhat - Have a great time in Minnesota. The Mall of America sounds fun. When does your DH have to make his decision on the hospital he will be working at?

DisneyPhD - I need to go on over to the Trip Reports Board to check out your trip report. I wrote one once for our December 2004 trip, but didn't have the energy to write another one for our other trips. I can't wait to read your report! :sunny:

Nucpharm - That is too funny about your DH. :teeth: My DH peeks over my shoulder at times to see what I am reading or writing on the boards. :flower:

Lisawynn - Glad to hear that your DH's work party went well. My DH and I usually leave parties once people hit the bar. We would always be tired and ready for bed. Enjoy your father's birthday dinner! Pineapple upside down cake sounds yummy!

DisKim - It sounds like your basement is in the same state as my basement! I'm going to try and tackle it again tomorrow. I also think that is a great idea to visit NC. Plus, you all will have a great romantic getaway. It sounds wonderful! :sunny:

Everyone have a great evening! :wizard:
