Alice28 congrats to you for finally getting to see your husband!!!! You must be so excited for the day he finally gets to come back to your home! It must have been so great to see hime after all these months. And great that the stent was removed too!

SL, I have to admit that your lunch sounds like it was pretty good, even to me right now! It's weird but all 'bad' foods are much more appealing to me now than they ever are. And I LOVE your new photo of Lucas! His eyes are gorgeous and he just looks so happy.

DisneyPhD, welcome home from your trip! Glad to hear that you had a good time. I know what you mean about Lily's vocab growing during the trip. Madison learned so many "Disney" words when we were there that it amazed me.

nucpharm, I completely sympathize with you about being a pseudo-single mom. My husband works ridiculous hours too, but we've been lucky in that he's had to take his vacation weeks since late October for interviews. He gets I think 11 or 13 weeks of vacation this year for interviewing purpopses mainly, and he has used all but 3 I think as of this week. So as of Tuesday I go back to seeing him about 2 hours a day again, at least till the end of April when he's got another 2 weeks off. Then his last week off before he graduates we will be using to go to BIL's high school graduation. He's basically got a couple of weeks off in June which we have to use to move, and then that's it for a year. He'll get a couple of days off a months, but will be working approximately 80 hours a week (the legal limit for interns to work  ) and that will include most holidays too. That's 1 huge reason why I wasn't planning to have our 2nd baby till after his intern year ended, cause I know it's going to be very, very challenging to have 2 young kids basically by myself all the time.

I've been so sick this week it's really making me miserable. My husband took Madison to the store yesterday to get some Bagel Bites (the only thing I could consider eating without getting nauseous :crazy2: ) and I thought I'd use that time to clean up, do laundry, and maybe even get on the computer, but I ended up sleeping the whole time. I wondered last night how I'm gonna get through another 10 weeks of this without going crazy (I'm basing that on being sick with Madison till 18 weeks). I told Joey when I was pregnant with Madison that if I were as sick with the next 2 we were only having 3 (I want 4) and now I feel like I don't even know if I can do it a 3rd time. I know I will only because I know I won't feel like we're done with 2 kids, but right now it seems like such a remote possibility. And after being on "vacation" since late October, my husband goes back to school on Tuesday and though his schedule will be light the 1st 2 weeks, after that he goes to the ER for a month and that will be a rough schedule. I really commend those of you who already have 2 or more kids cause pregnancy seems much harder the 2nd time around to me!

Aside from all that, we had a good time in Nashville, and while it wouldn't be my first choice of cities to live in, I think it would be very livable for 3 or 4 years. The only thing is that with their 4 year program, the whole first year is spent in surgery and ICU rotations and my husband did not like that at all. He really liked the 3 anesthesia years, but they only take 3 students for the 3 year program, compared to 12 for the 4 year program so that will affect how he ranks Vanderbilt. Cleveland is sorta the same deal, but he liked their 1st year. My only hang up is that we'll have to move when I'm about 30 weeks or so and that's sorta scary to me. I told him to ask someone there if they'll give him more consideration for the 3 year program if he explains why he would prefer that over the 4 year.

I have a question for those of you who have left your kids overnight before. Madison was fine with my mom for the 2 days that we were gone, but when we came home she was a different child. She cried almost all day yesterday, for everything from wanting to hold both toothbrushes (she brushes with one while we use the other), wearing Buzz pjs to school, what cereal she was eating, wearing 3 coats to school even though it was 60+ degrees (we let her do that one), then after school she flipped out cause she wanted some water, after her nap she was a terror again for whatever reason, just crying over nothing, etc. So we're trying to figure out if she is just reacting to us being gone for 2 days, if she just got used to my mom spoiling her (my mom will not let her cry, so when she insists on brushing her teeth herself she lets her), or if she's getting sick (which is possible cause her school sent home a note that a kid in her class has strep throat, but my husband checked her and he said her throat looked okay). We have no idea what to do, but Madison seems to have gone from following a set routine everyday without complaints to freaking out everytime something doesn't go her way. Of course I'm sure part of it is just that she's getting a little older/more independent, but I really think a lot of it somehow relates to us going away. Any ideas of what to do? We're headed to Minnesota tomorrow till Monday night and then Wednesday afternoon we leave for Arizona so getting her back on her regular schedule will be harder than it seems for the next 1.5 weeks.

TGIF everyone. :cool1:

I don't have time to read through all the posts and catch up but I do want to say fast, I am sorry for your loss Hillary  to you and you family. And to Alice28 - I got chills when I saw your post about seeing your DH! I am so excited for you. :flower:

To the Gymboree addicts - my friend and I are hitting Gymbo today to redeem our Gymbucks on lunchbreak. What is everyone buying? I know Alice wants that turtle dress....my friend loves it too. I only have one week left of work. I will catch up on the new posts when I can over the weekend, hope everyone has a great weekend! :hyper:

I was just about to shower and kept hearing fire trucks drive by. Well we live across the street from a fire station and a police station so I'm sorta desensitized and I thought "oh a fire". Well just now they said on the new that there's a huge blaze in the rowhouses on the corner of 23rd and L Streets. Well that's where I live! I'm actually on the M St. end of the block, but these are the little rowhouses across the street from our condo building. I looked outside and the air is super-smokey so it must be a pretty bad fire. I can't see the flames from my window, but there are ladders from the fire trucks going inside the buildings. They blocked off the whole street (and 23rd St. is a major artery in DC cause it connects to one of the VA bridges). It's kinda sad cause most of the residents of those rowhouses are GW college students so I hope no one got hurt. Last time a GW dorm had a fire (though this is not a dorm) the kids were so used to people pulling false alarms that they didnt' evacuate and 1 boy died. Hopefully this will have a better outcome since I doubt they have false fire alarms in these little houses.

Zalansky, I'm not making my Gymbo purchases till next week, but I will be looking online today to see what I want to get. I have to see how many gymbucks I have first, I think 3, but I might have a 4th one, we'll see. Madison actually needs spring clothes cause I bought everything last year in 2T thinking she'd wear that size, but she's definitely going to still be in 18-24 months.

Good morning all!

I feel like a new woman this AM without that torture device in. And knowing DH is just 2 hours away, in safe and sound Washington state. :teeth:

I have not had time to catch up on all the posts, but DisneyPhD, glad you are back! Justhat- hope the fire isn't a bad one. SL- the new pic of Lucas is too cute! Nucpharm- I know exactly how you feel and then some re: DH not being home. Zalansky- I am not sure how I am going to spend my Gymbucks- I have 3 and I know I am getting the turtle dress and DS8 needs some pants- he still easily fits into the Gymbo 7s so whatever I can find in his size that's already marked down I am getting. I like a lot of the new stuff, but I went thru Molly's drawers the other day and OMG. I bought SO MUCH STUFF for this summer already. It's all 12-18 month though and she's wearing that right now....but I figure I can def get her in the dresses and shorts/tops, it the rompers that may go to ebay. But still, she has at least 20 outfits already.

I have to share this- the PX (big shop) at the base has so much cool stuff- I bought some Clinique at about 20% off retail....and they had coach and dooney & burke purses around 20-25% off retail! If they had a style I liked (like I always see at the dept store) I would have bought one. I have a small D and B purse, but it's too small.

Hope everyone has a super duper day. :goodvibes

PS- Jill- HOW IRRITATING that the insurance thing is still flipflopping! :headache:

And welcome to our new Moms!

Hi Everyone,

I'm at work and haven't had a chance to read all the posts i've missed however I wanted to THANK EVERYONE for your kind words during this tough time. My husband is still out at his mom's trying to get her things in order. I've been a single parent for the last 2 mornings - trying to get the kids out the door alone to the sitters (poor DS - he's missed school all week but I can't get him to preschool from the sitters when I work 40 minutes away - the school, sitter and my husband's job are all within 5 minutes of each other). I give so much credit to single mom's of little ones (like you've been Alice)....wow. Liam was sleeping much better before we left for PA, and last night he was up a lot - but we'll get back into our routine soon (hopefully).

I'll catch up with all the posts maybe by Sunday. I've got to pick DH up in PA tomorrow so I won't be able to be on the computer much until then.

Oh Hillbeans! I'm so sorry about your FIL! I just went back in the posts so I could see what you are talking about. :sad1: I will be praying for your family, and for your DH. My FIL passed away 4 years ago, and it was pretty rough for awhile on my DH. (not to mention MIL).

Thanks Alice - BTW - so glad to hear your DH is home safe and sound.

My mom passed away in August 2003, so losing my FIL kind of brought all those feelings back. My FIL had just turned 60, my mom was only 66....they both died way too young. Sorry to hear about your FIL as well, it's never easy going through these kind of things.

Hi everyone - this post has really moved since I was here last - I have tried to scan through about 5 pages of posts so I must apologise now if I miss anyone

Hillbeans - So sorry for your loss - I am thinking of you.

Robin - Congrats on your DH being home :cool1: , and on getting your stent removed I noticed that you hadn't posted for a while - I wondered if anything had happened with your stones.

SL - I love the new pic of Lucas! He is too cute and what lovely eyes! :)

Jill - I can't believe that the insurance are messing you about again - what a nightmare I hope that you get this sorted soon.

Mommytotwo - Congratulations - I remember you from the OMTB thread.

I don't know what I have just done to the computer - my screen appears to have gone really big ??? WTH??

Anyways.....

I took Shelby to be weighed this morning and the little piggy has put on 11oz in a week!!!! :scared1: she is growing so fast - but then she did take 7 6oz bottles yesterday! So she is now 11lbs 12 oz I bet she will be over 12lb by next week!

We have been to the park today which was nice - a bit chilly but nice, I managed to get in the park cafe too and have a hot chocolate - Shelby decided to fill her nappy though so I had to change her in the toilets - something that I really don't like to do, but I guess when you are out there's not a lot you can do about that. :confused3

DH is going out with his work crew tonigh so I will be alone - I have got a new exercise DVD that I might give a go, that should be interesting! :teeth:

Oh well I have to go now,

take care everyone.
Gems

Wow this thread get away from me so fast!

Hillbeans - Sorry to read about your FIL.

Mommytotwo - Congratulations!

DisneyPHD - Glad you had a good vacation. I am anxious to check out SSR on our trip in December.

Alice28 - I am so happy for you and yours! What a wonderful feeling knowing your DH is here safe and sound!

Justthat - We have left Aidan overnight before but he's still really too young to care. Maybe the break in her normal routine with you just threw her off a bit.

Zalansky - Good luck at Gymboree. I never really like their boy stuff, so I can't wait for a little girl to have to shop for!

SL - Lucas has the cutest smile!

Hello to everyone else I forgot to mention! Well we have a fun weekend planned here. Sunday is my 29th birthday and I have a girlfriends day planned. Alan is going to stay home with Aidan while I go out to lunch, movie and mani/pedi! I am sooooo excited! We are going out to lunch and a movie tomorrow while my sister keeps the baby. Then we are having a Patriots Party Saturday night for their playoff game. What a weekend. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend, too!

Hello everyone! :sunny:

We are having absolutely gorgeous weather here so I really should be outside enjoying it while it lasts. :sunny: I know we will be "paid back" for all of this mild weather here.

The latest in our insurance drama is that the company had decided that they will pay. I won't believe it until it happens though b/c they keep flip flopping. :rotfl: They are sending us it in writing though. Keep your fingers crossed that this little drama is over. :)

Bellacam - Happy Birthday! :bday: Have a great time celebrating! I'm already making plans as to what I want to do for my 40th birthday and it is two years away. :rotfl:

Gems - Hi! It sounds like Shelby is doing great and growing wonderfully! She is a cutie!

Hillbeans - to you. My FIL passed away 5 1/2 years ago and he was pretty young as well. There are still moments when my DH feels like picking up the phone to speak with him and we realize that he is gone. I'm sorry that you all are going through a tough time.

Alice28 - I used to love going to the military exchanges (PX) b/c they always have great deals! My mom and dad still go and she says that they always have the neatest things. I hope that you are feeling great now that the stent is out! Also, when do you get to see your DH again?

Zalansky - Enjoy your gymbucks! I think I have 2 gymbucks, but John Paul doesn't need anything right now. Maybe I will buy some gifts for my friends who have recently had baby girls. :teeth: I just love love love their girl clothes.

Justhat - Yikes! about the fire! I hope that the fire isn't too bad and that no one is hurt. I'm sure that I will see it on the news today. I used to work not far from where you live. I worked on the corner of 20th and F Street (Just a few blocks from the White House in the heart of GW.) The building I worked at was sold to GW so now I'm not sure what it is.

As far as Madison being out of sorts. It sounds like it is part her age and part you being away. Both my daughters went through that and they would be fine in a few days. I hope it gets better for you and I'm sure that it is tough when you are feeling so rotten from the pregnancy.

Nucpharm - Sorry to hear that your DH is working long hours. That would be great for you all to be able to move to be closer to friends and family. Has your DH said that moving is off?

DisneyPhD - Welcome back! Sounds like you had a great trip to WDW! :earsboy: I really wish that we had bought into DVC back in 2003. Next time we go to WDW I am thinking of renting points from a friend to check out BWV. I can't wait to read your trip report.

Valerie - That is so wonderful of you to donate your hair to Locks of Love. You will have to post a picture of you with your new haircut!

Lisawynn - Yea! for sending in your deposit for your WDW trip. It sounds like you are going to have a great trip with your dad! :sunny:

DisKim - Awww...how sweet of your student to think of you when she was at Disney. :flower3: That is wonderful!

SL - That new desert at Wendy's is making me hungry. :rotfl: It sounds delicious.

Tamie - I hope that your ankle is better soon! :flower:

Hi to J&D! and Welcome to Mommytotwo!

Before I forget, SL asked about weekend plans... Tomorrow isn't too exciting as we need to clean out our basement. It is full of stuff that needs to go! We are going to go to the Smithsonian Museums on Sunday since it has been awhile since we have been there. It is kind of sad that I am only 1/2 hour from DC and we don't take advantage of all the wonderful things DC has to offer. I need to be a tourist in my own town! :teeth:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Jill--good news about the insurance :cool1: --hopefully they won't change their minds again! DH hasn't said the idea of moving is off, but I'm guessing he's just a little afraid of change. This summer he will have worked for this company for 8 years. He came to them right out of undergrad. and really hasn't known much more. I on the other hand, when I was working outside the home, was a big job hopper. I guess he feels like he "owes' the company something for how good they've been to him (all except this year) We'll see.

Bellacam--Happy Birthday! :bday: I had my 2nd 29th b-day this year (if you know what I mean) :rotfl: I told DH that from last year on I would be 29 forever--I tried being 25 forever, but that didn't work. :rotfl:

Well, I better go enjoy my peace and quiet--I got both kids to nap at the same time! :worship: What will I do with my "me time"? Probably laundry--what an exciting life I lead!

Jimmy is napping and I should be doing the same. I am SO tired these days. I don't know if it's all the chages in the weather, but I'm a mess. Instead of sleeping, I'm watching Designing Women. This show is just too funny and it reminds me of living at home all those years ago.

I hope you're all well today. I attended the advisors' meeting for our 8th grade competition. Not too much to report there. We start practice on Monday. I don't know how good our team will be this year. A few of the kids are smart but kind of scatter-brained.

Alice - Yay for DH being safe and sound. I have 1 Gymbuck and a $20 gift card to spend. I think I'm going to buy an outfit for Jimmy's 1yr. pic. We don't really need anything for him.

justthat - I hope you're feeling better soon. The first 12 or so weeks of my pg were tough. I felt like I wanted to die. Isn't it funny the things you crave when you're pg. I hope the search for a hospital works out well for your family. What's your first choice?

DH and I are attending his new company's holiday party tomorrow night. I have no idea what to wear. I am worried that I'll either be overdressed or underdressed. I hate feeling that way.

lissawynn - sorry to hear you're so tired. DH has been that way lately too. He slept 10 hours the other night, he NEVER does that. He's always up early. Maybe you are just fighting something off and your body needs the rest. For the party, I say better overdressed than under.

bellacam - Happy Birthday!!! :flower2: Your day sounds so wonderful! Enjoy it!!!

jill - I want to say good news about the insurance, but I don't want to jinx you. ;) lol! I hope it sticks this time.

alice - Enjoy your time with your hubby. Thank goodness that stent is out! Please tell your husband thank you. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate the hard work and sacrifices you both have made for us all!

gems - yeah Shelby :) She's so cute!

hillary - {{hugs}}

justthat - how scary! I hope everyone made it out ok.

zalansky - have fun with those gymbucks!!

nucpharm - I'm sorry your husband is working so much! I can't imagine how much you're looking forward to vacation!

SL - Those frosty things sound so good!

My ankle is feeling better. It's still swollen and I have no plans for the treadmill until Monday. I hope I can at least fast walk on it if I can't run.

Tonight we are just getting ready for DH's party. I want to get as much done as possible tonight so we can just hang out tomorrow before the party.

Have a good weekend everyone!!!!

Tamie

Have a great birthday, Bellacam! :cake:

Tamie- Good luck with your DH's party. :shamrock:

SL- I'll have to try one of those frosties. ::yes::

lissawynn- Get some rest tonight. Have fun at the party, and enjoy your Dad's b-day dinner.

llij- Hope the insurance company sticks with their decision this time.

Alice28- How long until your DH gets to come "home"? Sounds like you had fun shopping at the PX.

Nucpharm & justhat- I totally understand what you are feeling. My DH is a coach, so I am a sports widow from June-April. Sometimes I feel like a single mom, but my DH does help out with the baby as much as he can when he is home. I try to think of people like Alice28 who are away from their spouse for months or even years, and that makes me feel better about my situation. At least he gets to come home every night.

DisKim- Those are the moments that make teaching such a rewarding career.

Gotta go. My princess just woke up and is ready for her dinner.

TTFN

Bellacam - Happy Birthday :bday:

Hillbeans - I'm so sorry about your FIL. He was so young! I am very close with my FIL and he has been sickly for a long time, so I can imagine how you must feel.

I certainly can relate to those of you that feel like single moms. My DH does the tv production for the school district and our town. He has to videotape every board of ed and town meeting and keep our community channel running. He is always running out and it is so annoying. Though, I must say, it sounds like Justhat and nucpharm have it much worse. 80 hour work weeks! That's insane!

I attended another workshop today. It was boring but I got a whole set of papers graded. I also got to go with my friend so it was nice having time with her. Apparently, we missed a banner day at work. We called our other friend and she said today seemed like the longest day ever. We had 3 violent fights. There were 10 cop cars. My friend said you could hear the sirens wailing as they approached. The cop who is always in our school got beat up by one of the kids who also broke a window. This cop also was forced into an asthma attack and hospitalized. Our principal left after the first fight because his blood pressure was high. Then, there were 2 more fights. My friend said all the teachers were shaky and in shock. Apparently, these were really bad fights. I was glad I wasn't there but I was worried about my students because one of the fights happened right by my room after my 9 honors kids left. I saw one of them at the movies and she said they were all okay. Tuesday ought to be interesting. What makes me sick is these kids will get suspended and then be allowed back into the school with the other students. It's just not right.

DisKim - Holy Moly! It sounds like it certainly was rough at your school today! :scared1: Glad to hear that your students are alright.

Good morning! Jimmy is still sleeping! I figured I'd get moving and get my house together. DH is working for a few hours this morning. I'm going to get our clothes ready for the party tonight. Maybe I'll have my mom take a pic of us before we leave. It's not often we get dressed up! My mom is babysitting for us tonight. I think my sister is disappointed that I didn't ask her. It's just easier to have Jimmy here and in his own crib when we get home.

Bellacam - Happy belated birthday!

DisKim - Sounds like yesterday was a rough day in your school. Maybe it's because we're a middle school, but we rarely have fights in school. I hope things have calmed down.

I'm going to beging the laundry marathon! Have a good day everyone!

ETA - I used my 1 Gymbuck last night. I bought Jimmy the striped sweater, quilted one piece outfit, and socks from the In the Forest collection. I also bought him the hot rod hoodie. I really liked the puddle jumping stuff, but I will not pay full price for the stuff. Maybe if I had 4 or 5 Gymbucks, but not just 1...

bellacam - :bday: :cake:

T16GEM - Wow! Shelby's getting so big. Good for her!

llij - I hope the insurance company doesn't change it's mind again. Have fun cleaning the basement!

tkyes - Good luck with your DH's party. Glad your ankle is feeling better.

DisKim - Those fights sound scary!

lissawynn - I know what you mean about not knowing what to wear to your DH's party. I agree with Tamie - better overdressed than under. I hope you find something and have a great time!

Alice28 - I'm glad you're feeling better and got to see your DH.

:grouphug: to all the "single" moms. I know I'm really lucky. DH works in the TV industry for a 24-hour network and has great hours for being in that field. Even when he worked for the local news (before we were married) he would get out after the 11pm broadcast. I'm really glad he's home for dinner and to help put Lucas to bed.

I've been going crazy taking pictures lately because I'm going to start scrapbooking so I thought I'd share one of Lucas in his "big boy" car seat.

Morning all and Happy Weekend! :sunny:

DisKim--that sounds awful about your school. I can't imagine-I was watching something on 20/20 last night about public schools in America, and I was thinking that things were sure different 15-20 years ago (OMG-I getting old! :rotfl: )

lissawyn--would love to see a pic of you and DH all dressed up. I'm hoping to get a good pic of the fam next week on vacation.

tykes--glad to hear your ankle is feeling better. It's good to see that someone is using their treadmill for more than a clothes rack :scratchin

J&D--I do agree with you that I have a better situation with DH than some do. I have a good friend, who's DH, like Alice28, has been over in the Middle East for months. I can't even imagine.

DH and I had a long talk last night about his job and our family situation in general. I told him that his job right now is not a good fit for our family. I don't know if I mentioned it, but he's been working these god-awful hours until we go on vacation next week, but after we get back he leaves town for 2 weeks! I told DH that I felt a little guilty being unhappy with his job b/c he's the one having to go out to work. But I hate having to explain to DD everyday where daddy is, and why he isn't here with us. Everytime we get in the car she wants to go pick up daddy. :sad1: I told DH that if we moved closer to family, even if he did have to work long hours, I would have some respite by being able to have my mom or sister watch the kids for an hour or two. Oh well, enough of my ramblings...

Time to find something around the house to do today-DH is at work, imagine that! And the kids are under house arrest until we leave for WDW--nobody is going to get sick on this trip if I can help it--By the way, anyone ever use that Airborne stuff to help you not get sick?
