The official bride to be thread

Well, hey gang :) I am SO EXCITED! He proposed to me on Valentine's Day this year (yikes, not even a week ago!!) and it was very funny how he did it. We went to a little sandwich shop for lunch and after we were done eating, he took my hand and he was *very* sweaty. He looked very red and said that he didn't know that this was going to be so hard. Eventually he said, "Well, I'm ready." and I thought he meant he was ready TO GO! :rotfl: He had meant ready to get married.

There was no ring with the first proposal, because I said I didn't need a ring. He proposed twice after that....second time that night just to be a little funny, and third time this morning when he presented me with a gorgeous ring that was his grandmother's.

We're planning on a tentative Nov. 19, 2005 date. I actually bought my dress last night at David's Bridal. I saw it online, fell in love with it, took his mom up there last night, tried it on, bought it! They have to special order in one for me for length, and it's a very "trial limited" dress.

The picture of the dress can be seen HERE!! It's very non traditional, and I think gorgeous. Laces up in the back like a corset. It was $350 because of the sale

I'm so excited!

Awww Danvers that's such a sweet proposal story . And so funny too!

It's so cool that you found your dream dress on sale!!! My computer is acting funny and I can't see the dress but I'm sure it's beautiful.

BTW, November is a great time for a wedding. I had wanted to have mine in November but everything was booked. Hopefully October will be a great time for a wedding too :)

Thank you! :) We're very excited :) Anyone else have dress pics?

Danvers I nearly got that dress! We met in college and red was a school color so it would have been sweet...but red is difficult to work with in August. Mine is 9004 on the David's website...I'm in love with it!!

Anybody have any advice for buying invitations? That's my next task. We picked out two at Hallmark, but I'm not sure either is "the one"

I bought some super cute wedding scrapbook stuff at AC Moore tonight, I'm excited!!!

If you rent through Sachino's for a tux, you can get free invitations. We opted for After Hours Formalwear since they were advertisting free roundtrip airline tickets if you were fitted before 02/28. Plus, the groom's tux was free (woohoo!).

I've never heard of that company...not sure we have them here. AfterHours I think we do have...Not sure, but I'm going to look into renting with them too.

I didn't know you could get invitations from Hallmark...are they pretty nice?

The ones I saw at Hallmark were from other companies...Like Carlson...I can't remember the others, but different stores had different things. One store didn't carry them at all...One store had 2 books and another store had 3 (and the 2 that were the same as the other store were larger). We really like a couple we saw there though. I don't know where else to go!

i'm getting married march 21st 2006 at walt disney world at the yacht club with our family of 55, where we will be hosting a 4 day wedding event. we are having so much fun with the plans, life, eachother & are looking forward to the big "i do". the dis wedding & honeymoon forum, community & trip planning boards has been so helpful.

some sites i like / have made purchases is now-and-forever.com (invitations, programs, pz flutes) theknot.com wedding shop (guest books, apparel, favors), bridalshop.freeservers.com (tons of items) & disney direct.com (some guest bag items)

hello to all & best of luck with your weddings & plans!

I'm having a hard time with invitations right now. I went into one invitation store and they were so rude and snotty :guilty:. I might order them from an online company. I wish I was creative enough to do them myself...it would save so much money!

I got to cross four things off my to do list. I now have a location (caterer included), a band, a dress, and a veil :cheer2:

Twojo21 are you getting married in the YC gazebo? When I was a kid I used to dream of getting married there :cloud9:

We have the following so far:

My dress
His tux
Tux styles for his best man, groomsmen and his dad
Ceremony time and location
Ceremony rehersal time and location
Music (FREE!!) :)

It's just taking a little while to get things rolling.

Danvers I was finally able to see your dress and it's fabulous! I love dresses with colour in them. I saw a veil with red trim at a bridal show last week and it looked amazing!

Thank you! :) I wish I could upload a pic of the tuxes...they are so amazing.

We're very lucky to have our music entirely for free. We're going to download all of the songs we want to play onto our friend's Ipod and then they're going to hook that up to speakers (those big giant professional ones) and we won't need a DJ. Our friends are letting us do that for free....wheee! :)

That's what we're doing for the engagement party. Free is always good :teeth:. Unfortunately dbf wanted a band for the wedding. A big ol' expensive band :faint:. He doesn't share my love for all things free.

LOL. My fiance is very penny pinching :) If we can get it for free or cheap, then so be it. We may get the cake VERY cheaply made since his poker buddy's wife does that for a living. We want to either do a Disney Cruise or Vegas/Disneyland for a honeymoon. Not sure yet.

princess pooh,

yep, the yacht club gazebo, we fell in love with it on a recent trip, & the simple elegance of the yacht club. we cant wait to officially book, its so exciting!

sorry to hear about your invitations, i've ordered a few invitation samples online, some of the sites offer mark off's of manufacturer prices too, so check/shop around. best of luck with your wedding plans! we went to a cousins wedding last october here in illinois, they love fall, so they had leaves & orange flowers in the arrangements, etc. it was very nice.

We printed up our own invitations. We just got an inexpensive kit from the office supply store, found a poem we both liked for the cover (we used e.e. cummings "love is more thicker than forget") and put the wedding details on the inside. It gave us the flexibility to put exactly what we wanted on the reply cards (in our case it was check boxes for will/will not attend and each invitees name listed on the cards). We used a navy blue ink colour and a script-y font.

We figured that really, likely no one would care what the invitations looked like. It's not like they're going to hang on to them for years, and of the weddings I've been invited to the only invitation I actually remember is the one that the bride & groom made themselves out of construction paper and had assorted things glued on to it. We'll probably keep a copy of the invitation for the scrapbook, but other than us, I'm pretty sure what the invitation looks like isn't going to matter to most people.

The cost for a package I think 40 invitations with envelopes, and 40 response cards with envelopes, was $45 Canadian.
