The official bride to be thread

We figured that really, likely no one would care what the invitations looked like. It's not like they're going to hang on to them for years, and of the weddings I've been invited to the only invitation I actually remember is the one that the bride & groom made themselves out of construction paper and had assorted things glued on to it. We'll probably keep a copy of the invitation for the scrapbook, but other than us, I'm pretty sure what the invitation looks like isn't going to matter to most people.

That's what I keep trying to tell my parents and future inlaws! I don't remember one wedding invitation I've ever gotten. Not the fancy ones, not the plain ones...nothing! I'm going to check out one more invite place this week and if it's too expensive, I'll order them online. I wish I could make it myself (I saw a box of them at Staples that were perfect) but I've given up on that idea. I wasted 100 thank you cards when I tried to customize them

We had thought about buying the invitations and making them ourselves, but we haven't really found a paper design that we like. We're supposed to go out soon and start looking for some more.

How many people will be at your wedding?

We're inviting about 275 people. I'm guessing about 250 will show up. I was hoping for something smaller but we both have really BIG families.

How about you?

BTW, Congrats on the budget cake :teeth:. I think I have to make some friends in the wedding industry!

Woo hoo, I got my veils today. One of them is for the ceremony and has to be long to cover my shoulders. I bought it from a company in Toronto called The Bride's Project and they help raise money to send kids with cancer to summer camp. The other veil is shorter and lighter to wear for the recption. I forgot about the scar on my shoulder when I bought my strapless dress  so I bought a cheapie veil off Ebay to keep me covered.

I'm really happy that things are starting to get moving now :Pinkbounc

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with a veil yet.

What are you doing for a reception?

Danvers, I haven't done much in terms of planning the reception. It's going to be at a ballroom at a hotel so they are taking care of the decorations. The seat covers and candelabras are included so we are using those :teeth:. Buffet stations for the coctails are also included, and then there's a four course meal and sweet table (including chocolate fountain!). Since the wedding is in October I was thinking of using fall colors for the flowers. What are you planning for yours?

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them. I need those little finishing touches that can make a wedding unique and special.

I found this thread while I was searching for wedding related posts. I am now a bride to be - getting marrried Oct 1 or 2. I'm excited but also worried and going nuts. We originally had planned a wedding for 2002 for $2k at a nice bed and breakfast but crap happens and the wedding was postponed. So here I am 3 years later with the dress and all that stuff but there is no way we can afford that other place again. We're thinking about having it on our back deck since there will only be about 15 people invited. I would have liked to have it in a church but we are not very religious and don't belong to any church so I'm not sure how we would be able to do that. DH2B wants the JP to do it but I don't even know how that works. Any suggestions on an officiant? For the reception we are going out to my fave restaurant and everyone will pay for their meal instead of giving a wedding present. Then off to WDW for the honeymoon (we could have a super fancy wedding if I didn't want to go to WDW but I love WDW too much). This is definitely wedding on a budget but I still want it to be special.

Most churches would still allow you to have it there, regardless of membership. I'm not a member at the church I'm getting married at. It depends on the church and your ability to pay how much a church will charge. You could always consider a non-denominational church...Those are getting more and more popular, so there are probably several near you.

Congratulations and enjoy all the planning!!

Thanks for the reply Aurora. I may have to look into that. My neighbors are fairly active in their church and I'll ask them what the church's policy is on that. Can you give me a price range on what churches charge (or what you are paying if you don't mind) just so I have an idea. Thx!

WE had to pay $375 since we were not members of the church. $200 of that was just a damage deposit, that we get back if we leave everything tidy. So ultimately $175, which we thought was a great price compared to other estimates we were getting.

Good Luck and have FUN planning

I think ours is around 375 too...but we don't get any back. They have a brand new reception hall that is really really nice, so we're using that too, which is probably why it costs so much more. That also includes having somebody come in and clean up after the wedding and reception so that we don't have to do it.
