*** The Official 2014 - DLR -July Thread ***(We All Have Been There & Back Home)

Finishing up my packing today. We leave for the hotel by the airport tomorrow afternoon and we fly out on Saturday morning!:cool1: I am so excited!!:yay:

Happy & Safe Travels - Mickey and the whole gang are waiting for you guy's.

Hope you had fun in Santa Monica Bob. Is t that pier cool? And the ocean front walk is cool too. Love that area.
Djmeredith-do you have a neti pot? I find any cold or sinus cold goes away a lot quicker when u flush it out with a neti pot. So worthwhile, easy and cheap. Get well quick so you can enjoy the mouse

Thanks, we had a lot of fun at Santa Monica Beach.. The pier is unbelievable, never have been on a pier over the ocean. It was really nice, the last time DD and I were at a Beach was when DD was 4 and we visited a Beach in San Diego.

Thanks for that reminder! I use the sinus rinse instead of the neti pot (ENT told me to switch after sinus surgery a few yrs ago) but I haven't used it this time because it's a chest cold. I'll use it anyway just in case.

It's so weird that so many of you July'ers are already done with your trips. Mine still seems forever away.

I'm beginning to get sad......tomorrow we leave DL. We have had a wonderful week!

We were selected to Open DCA on Monday! Talk about beginning our vacation magical! It was so cool! And Cap the CM was amazing! Walt would be proud to have him working for him!

I'm in love with Carsland! Especially at night! I totally could visit everyday and not get bored! My kids rode the Racers 7 times Monday! I did 3. Had the best evening ride last night with an amazing car crew! Night rides are so awesome!

DLP is beautiful! Congested in areas from what I'm used to at WDW. But we figured how to manage it.

Cap almost picked us to open again til we started talking to him and he remembered us from DCA the day before! Yup we are rope droppers! He complimented us saying we were a wonderful family and he would have picked us again but couldn't. He truly is a unique CM!

We were beat after 2 crazy long days so thought we would do Wednesday slower. We'll my youngest daughter (2) and I headed to DLP for gate opening and we're going to attempt Anna and Elsa. So gates open and I'd forgotten my cell in the room. Oh well I just followed the crazy girls running and followed signs CM's were holding with Frozen. I knew where to go but here they open gates early just to the lands. We didn't have this the day before cause of MM. So I got in line in front of castle and was so close to front! Doing the happy dance here! My hubby and other kiddos planned on doing DCA but he saw my phone so came over to find me. He followed sign and we were still waiting for 8am. So we all followed line then and had to wait about 35 mins and we met them! It was so sweet! No way were we ever waiting 1-3 hours. So this was amazing!

Then headed over to DCA to meet Disney Junior characters with youngest dd. Got all them....headed back to DP and got fairies and princesses and Chip and Dale. We scored so many characters yesterday. That was our mission! And Colette loved it and it was so precious! Gotta love the park hopper too cause we hopped like 3-4 times yesterday! Never hopped at WDW before.

So Villas at GC are gorgeous! Gonna hate to check out. Heading up to watch World of Color soon.......our last hurrah!

Loved our trip here! I have party's I like over WDW but I still feel WDW is my fave. But I would love to get a Carsland in WDW.

Sounds like your trip had full days.. and also glad you had a super vacation.. Please share pictures if you can...

We are back home from our 3+ day trip to DL. While we are vets, there is always something new for us or the girls to experience.

New to the girls on this trip: Casey Jr. Train, Storybookland Canal Boat, Canoes, Grizzly River Run (DD9 &5), Splash Mountain (DD9 only), Fantasmic (DD5), GCH (DD5), ITBBAB, Silly Symphonies (DD5).

We've stayed at GCH and seen Fantasmic before, but DD5 was only 9 months at the time. This was really her first time experiencing both. She *loved* the bunk bed room at GCH, esp since DD9 let her sleep on top. We requested a bunk bed room by the Napa Rose elevators about a week ago and were granted the request when we checked in.

DD5 also loved Fantasmic. We took a really late nap on our last full day (5:30-7:30pm.) We showered and bought dinner before entering DL to watch the fireworks at 9:30. We then made our way through the hordes to NOS. I'm amazed that DD5 (seated in her stroller) and I were able to keep up with DH & DD9). Once we were seated, we ate our very late dinner and had a short wait before the show started. The girls LOVED the show. I'm glad we were able to watch it on this trip as DH says he doesn't want to do the wait for Fantasmic for a long time.

We also used single rider for the first time on this trip. DD9 and DH used it for Ca Screamin' and DD9, DH and I used it for Splash. Wow, that is totally the way to go! Save so much time, and it didn't bother DD9 to use the single rider.

Star Tours is the only FP ride that DD5 will ride. We can go on the ride all day long. OUr first ride was perfect. DD9 was the rebel spy and we got Han Solo, the AT-AT walkers, Princess Leia (who DD9 was for Halloween 3 years ago) and Boba Fet. On our last trip, we got the Wookie Planet every.single.time(like 5 times the whole trip.) We were glad to re-experience the other versions.

DH took a while to get ready our last morning, so I took the girls in for a short photo shoot by Paradise Pier. I saw some professional pictures with this background and wanted the same thing. Since there wasn't any time to set up a shoot with a local photographer, I dragged my good camera on our trip so I could take some photos. I haven't had time to check them, but I'm hoping I got a few good ones.

This will probably be our last trip for a while. I think DH is ready to take a break from DL. I'd love to take another trip, but I don't think the stars will align before our passes expire. I'll just have to live vicariously through everyone on these boards!

ETA: We also tried a Dole Whip & Float for the first time (along with watching the show in the Tiki Room) Loved the Whip!

Hi All! DH and I just returned from our 3 day DL adults only trip. It was fabulous! I wish we would have had 1 more day - 3 nights wasn't enough. I wasn't ready to leave.

My DH surprised me when he changed our hotel from the CCI to the DLH! It was the BEST surprise EVER!! Don't get me wrong. The CCI is great, but just doesn't compare to the the DLH. We got some pixie dust and got upgraded to a premier pool view. DH even had a gift basket delivered to the room. I really have the best husband in the world!!! I will try to do a trip report this weekend. I have never done one, so it will be something new for me.

An adult trip was soooo fun. However, I did find myself constantly thinking, "Oh, the kids would love this." We are taking them in September, so I am super excited to go back and do the family thing. The fun part was when we saw a kid crying or having a tantrum, we would look at each other and giggle knowing we didn't have to deal with it. But, we will next time, so we enjoyed it while we could!

Great to hear you had a blast!!

Quick question - what was your favorite sit-down and your favorite counter-service meals?? I need help from my adult-only July pals to make food decisions!!

Well, eating for us can be a problem since I have a lot of food allergies, so we don't have a big range of places to eat. So, for our favorite sit down, it would be Carnation Cafe. The chef came out and talked to me about my allergies, and that was really nice. Got a hamburger, and it was really yummy. Dh split the burger with me, but also got the potato soup and said it was yummy,

Our favorite counter service was Earl of Sandwich in DTD. Had great sandwiches with options I could have because of my allergies.

One thing I will mention, is that we ate at Cafe Orleans and weren't that impressed. The Pomme Frites (sp?) were cold soggy and so we took them back. The Monte Cristo was yummy and DH liked the gumbo, but our waiter was not very friendly. We should have gone to the Blue Bayou (have eaten there before). Same food as Cafe Orleans (well, some of the same), but the service was 100% better. Yes it was more expensive at the BB, but now we know it is worth it. Will be making reservations there for our next visit.
