The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY! Part 2

There is something about the WL that you can't really explain - you just have to experience it for yourself. I think for me personally since we always go around Christmas time and we live in Florida, the WL really helps bring us the feeling of Christmas even though we are still in Florida. None of the resorts on property capture the Christmas spirit like the WL does. The soaring lobby with the Christmas tree and the giant fireplace with cozy nooks everywhere and a view of the MK and the lake, just can't be beat. At Christmas time I doubt anyone could make a case there is a resort that better conveys that time of year.

I guess part of it also depends on what kind of person you are. When we looked at the other resorts, the Contemporary seemed anything but - it looks like a big sterile toaster with no personality. The Poly might be nice during the summer, but personally we hated how spread out it was and after a long day of walking around the parks, I'm not really interested in long walks (and needing to walk outside perhaps in the rain) just to get some food at the snack bar or restaurants. The Grand Floridian just isn't our style. I have this vision of old or rich people staying there (although staying on the Club Level at WL does set me back quite a bit). Perhaps it just seems more stuffy or not as fun and casual as the WL.

EXACTLY how we feel also. (ESPECIALLY about the GF - Sorry :confused3 ) Well put. :thumbsup2

Calling any and all WL vets.... I am planning our 30th wedding aniversary at the WL for Thanksgiving week. Can you tell me what I can expect at the Lodge. I know the parks will be busy, but with no kids this is not a problem. Will the Lodge be decorated? Where to eat Thanksgiving Dinner. Any advice, or information would be Greatly Appreciated. I am doing this as a surprise and have not been very successful in the past. So please help if you can. :thumbsup2

We'll be there next month for our 25th !! Expect to be relaxed. WL is the most peaceful place in WDW. Even if the parks are crazy, WL is a pace slower. My favorite thing happens when you first arrive. As you pull up and get out of your vehicle, you are greeted with a "Welcome Home" from the CMs. From there it only gets better.

I don't think they put the Christmas stuff up before Thanksgiving, but I'm not certain. I don't know if Artist Point or Whispering Canyon do anything special for Thanksgiving Day, but either would be nice in any event. AP is formal, WCC is looney. Pick to suit your demeanor.

Congratulations on 30 big ones !!!! :thumbsup2

I know, pathetic;)

I do have a room location question (yes, I'm overthinking it!) Does anyone know if the woods view lobby rooms on the 6th floor (north side) are smoking optional, or are those just on the north wing? If they are, does anyone know how those views are? Can you see the castle/CM/monorail? I'm traveling with a smoker so my options are more limited. Thanks!

Just subscribing for info.

I just booked WL for our 10th anniversary/my birthday Nov. 2-8. We haven't stayed at WL since back in 2000 when they were still building the villas. Have I missed much? It will be DS(8) and DD's(4) first stay on-site; anyone ever use the Cub's Den?

I can't wait! :goodvibes

We just booked WL for Oct. 20-27---WOOHOO!!!! We requested/reserved/paid extra for bunkbeds!! So excited!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:

So normally, we go to WDW every 4-5 years. And we were just there last year in July and stayed at WL for the first time. Well, the youngest goes off to college this fall, and DH and I haven’t taken a trip by ourselves in, like, 20 years and we are watching TV and see the Disney commercial for like the thousandth time and he says that he wants to go back. So, naturally, I price it out and a few weeks ago we book a stay in October, but at the values, just to keep it affordable. But we look at pricing at the other resorts, ya know, just because. And we talk about if any discounts or codes come out, we’d upgrade to WL because we really liked it and he really wants to stay there again.

Well, since I handle finances, I figure even if we don’t get a discount we can swing WL. So, unbeknownst to him, I have changed our ressies from ASMu to WL.
Now, I don’t think I can keep this secret from him until we arrive, but I’m gonna do my best!! :cool1: pixiedust: :jumping1:

KEEP IT, KEEP IT!!!!

I did kind of the same thing the last time we went...
I upgraded to CL..
The greatest surprise!!! He kept reminding me all week...if you know what I mean;)
WELL WORTH THE MONEY!

At the parks how far away is the stop for the WL? This sounds like an inane question, but it seems that no matter what resort we have stayed at, its bus is the furthest away in the bus queue  . Please tell me the deluxe will be closer than POFQ and ASMo.

MGM - WL bus stop is one of the farthest down the right side as you exit
Epcot - WL bus stop is about 3rd down the right side as you exit
AK - WL bus stop is about halfway down after you walk forever just to get to the bus stops!!
MK - who needs a bus with the cool boat ride!!

Good luck with that! It was all I could do to keep from my mother that we were staying on the CL. She was SO excited once I told her.....which was when we were finally on the road to WDW.

In December, when I decided for sure that we would be returning to WDW in April, I was planning on booking a moderate for the first time (stayed at ASMo last year). I looked and looked at all the moderates, trying to decide which one to book, and ended up booking WL!! I was going to try to keep it a secret from my daughter, but I think I told her the next day! I'm HORRIBLE at keeping secrets!

Your trip sounds wonderful, congratulations on 30 Years of marriage.

Yes ::yes:: the Lodge will be decorated for the Holidays during your stay. As for Thanksgiving dinner I'm not sure :scratchin The only restaurant I know that has the traditional turkey/dressing would be Liberty Tree Tavern @ the Magic Kingdom. I'm thinking other restaurants might offer this on Thanksgiving Day though I have never visited on this holiday. If noone here knows maybe you could post over on the restaurant board.

The few Woods View Lobby rooms are not smoking optional rooms. All the smoking optional rooms are located on the far north wing. But these wood views do offer a possible view toward the Magic Kingdom. Your best request would be North wing, 6th floor, near the elevator, over looking the otter pond.

Isn't this just the best kind of secret to try and keep?:yay: I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut. I've tried before and failed miserably. For our 2003 Christmas trip to the WL I was going to try and get Cinderella's Breakfast but I knew the chances were slim. Got up bright and early on the first day I could start calling. Almost fainted when I got right through and got a ressie for a party of 7. I kept that little secret for the entire 3 minutes it took me to wake up DH.:rotfl:
I hope you are able to maintain your silence and that you have an amazing time!::yes::
