You guys need to help me make a choice here. Good news is I've found that I got a full scholarship to go back for my advanced nursing degree, bad news is that it's an intensive 15 month program and that leaves me unable to go next August for our 15th Wedding anniversary :guilty: I've been to WL 3 times during Christmas before, never during Halloween. The trip I take has to be VERY short, like 4 nights, as I cannot miss school..and my oldest DD cannot miss school (she's in 8th grade and honors classes, tried it last year and it was WAY too difficult to get back up to speed). I am thinking of a trip over the Columbus day weekend...(which may allow me to extend the trip to 5 nights)..or a Thursday-Sunday in December. So that my DD would only miss 2 days of school and I wouldn't miss any (my classes are on Monday..except Columbus Day) I'm thinking October as we can take a longer trip, we've never been, MNSSHP and the weather isn't as chilly..but the beauty of the WL at Christmas is SOOOO tempting! What would you do??

(Oh..and btw..MRI on my arm is tomorrow..so hopefully I'll get my cast off and can type more!! :woohoo: )

dizneykid,

I never thanked you for posting the photos of the Presidential Suite. We booked it for next May. We wanted the VP Suite but it is already booked.

Thanks again.

Lisa,

This is very difficult. I have been in October and December. In October you not only have the MNSSHP but you have the Food & Wine Festival!! I just love going this time of year. There is just so much to do!!

In December, you have the wonderful decorations. One of my fondest memories of the Lodge at Christmas is that when they had the singers down in the lobby and my DH and I almost forgot about them and we ran (I know you're not supposed to run in the hallways ;) ) to the overlook (we were on the 5th floor) and stood there and listened to them!! :goodvibes It felt so warm and wonderful.

Sorry, I can't be much help. This is a tough decision. Good luck!!

Having never been there during X-Mas it's hard to judge.

However, what made me decide to go in October is the MNSSHP and the Food & Wine Festival.

I would go for MNSSHP. We were there for it last year and had a BLAST!! We are now planning our next trip to be there for it in '07. We have also been there for Christmas and thought it was too crowded for us. But, the decor was great!!

We are planning our next trip for Sept. 2007 (way in advance) with me, my DH, and DD3. We are also going with both sides of our families so, with the crowd, planning is key.

I had a question for the experts out there. We have booked a standard room and which I believe can be found on several different floors. Am I right in saying that all the balconies on the 6th floor have the solid wall preventing you from seeing out unless you are actually standing on the balcony?

I just love this thread and it really gets me into the spirit of The Lodge! I think I have convinced the entire gang to stay there.

Actually none of the standard view rooms have the solid dormer balconies, The solid balconies are either on the 7th concierge floor or the 6th floor starting past the back elevators on the North and South wings these rooms would be woods or courtyard views.

The weather here in Florida in October is beautiful. (barring any late storms) The first two weeks in May and October are my favorite times to visit.

Here in Florida our schools don't have Columbus Day as a scheduled Holiday, they do have two fridays off each year in October for In-service days. :confused3 If your children have any of the extra off days and you could work them into the trip that would work out great.

While I know you haven't been posting much (Hope your MRI goes great tomorrow) I know you have been lurking and reading all the chatter about the Food & Wine Festival. It is a must visit for myself and my DH now, Great Food, Great Wine, Great Weather and a Great MNSSHP.

Hope your cast is history.

Beckie-
Thanks for the information. That is just what I wanted to hear. We are so looking forward to this trip and love reading this thread every day!! Thanks again!

I called this past weekend to book the week after Thanksgiving 2007 and they said that the woods view rooms hadn't been released for booking yet. Any idea when these rooms will be available to book for the end of Nov 2007?

Thanks!

We will be leaving in four days and have a courtyard view booked. I did make requests for Non-smoking due to DD's asthma, and requested a higher floor in a quieter area. I didn't necessarily want to be directly overlooking the pool because I thought it might be a bit noisy. Having never stayed there I don't know if this is the case.

Anyway just concerned because a lot of people keep saying to request inner courtyard views. With my requests being what they are it seems that they would probably assign my room to the side facing the villas. Please tell me anyone who has stayed on that side what kinds of views they had and if there are any really good rooms on that side. I would prefer some quiet and privacy at the end of a busy day as I like to read before bed and with two kids tucked in and sleeping I was planning on enjoying the balcony in the evening.

If the views here are not so good, maybe I should try to change my requests but this may be too late afterall. Thanks in advance.

Jacqueline,

Don't worry about the view you are talking about. That view is of the WL Villas, the quiet pool and of the woods. I think it is a very pleasant view. Having a CourtYard view ressie you will not have a bad view.

It will be very quiet and relaxing, especially on the upper floors. I'm at work now, but when I get home I can look for a picture of the view for you. :artist:

I hope you have a wonderful time at the Lodge. :)

DJMommy,

Last year we had a courtyard villa view and it was very nice. Our room was on the 4th floor at the end of the wing(#4164 I think), right next to a hidden mickey. We could see the lake, walkway to the villa 'quiet pool' and the pool. It was very peaceful and nice.

Thanks Dizneykid and LovintheLodge for your assurances. I just want everything to be perfect and tend to dwell on things too much. If you do have any pictures I would love to see them.

Only 4 more days and I have a few more questions.

The Club's Den: Can you take the kids there in the daytime hours and supervise them yourself while they color or do crafts? I thought you could do that at some of the kid's clubs.

My youngest is still only 3 so she wouldn't be allowed to be left there for the evening yet. Do they ever make exceptions? She is 3 1/2 and fully potty-trained. We wouldn't even leave the resort but would like to have a quiet dinner at Artist's Point just the two of us. Has anyone ever let them make an exception? Just wondering. No big deal either way.

Freaking out about all the love bug posts. Unfortunately I hate bugs and I seem to have passed this trait to both my kids. I hope they will not be upset. I have seen the pictures and they look kind of "Big", even tho everyone says they are little and annoying. Can anyone who is at the WL or has been over the past couple of weeks tell me how bad they are around the resort, like on your balconies or at the pool. This is supposed to be a laid back trip with lots of down time at the pool and resort so hope WL is not terribly overrun with them. Hope at least that by the end of our trip they will be less.

Thanks to all the wonderful people who give us newbies such good advice. I have been getting more and more excited by the day.

We've never used the kids' club at WL, but Neverland Club at the Poly took DD when she was a month or so shy of 4 - fully potty-trained. Don't know if this helps, but it is an exception at one of the kids' clubs.

DJmommy,
I will try to get a couple of pics up of the view from our room. I've only posted a pic once before, so I am a little rusty!

They DO make excpetions depending on the worker and the crowd level. We went one rainy afternoon, a few weeks ago, for the parent superviser activities (pretty nice, they painted masks and colored Disney pics... It's free, and as you said a parent must stay.) But whilpe there I told the lady how I'd wished we could have used it but or almost 4 son wasnt 4. She said most nights, if its not too crowded most of the people who work there will make excpetions. But, she said you have to walk in to ask - dont call the reservation number. So, as long as your willing to be spontaneous it mgiht work out! Good lcuk and have fun!!!

Thank you VA-BEAR. We might try that. I think they will like visiting in the daytime too to do a keepsake craft. Good to know.
