That is the reason why I don't want to make a prepaid reservation!!!

I'm still reading through this great thread but I have two questions.

1. What's the cost of a cab from the airport? There are 4 of us, so I'm thinking it might be cheaper than the shuttle?

2. When you're staying at the Swan/Dolphin does it feel like you're in the World? Does it still feel like Disney or just a nice hotel?

We're going for F&W in Oct so location us key. Still hoping for a discount at BC but Swan is our backup plan.

In the world? Feels like you are in the middle of the world, since you are. Immersed.

I would make it your primary, with BC a backup.

I guess it is because we have an inground pool in our backyard, but that's never been a point of consideration when we've chosen a Disney property. True, if we are vacationing at the beach, we also want a pool to dip into after the sand, but in our heads - Disney is for the parks, and the pool is just an added feature, a quick dip on the way to the next adventure. When we pick a Disney resort it is always LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION for us! (and that's the DOLPHIN! :thumbsup2)

Different strokes for different folks! :hippie:

Well I'm really sad right now :sad1::sad1::sad1::sad1:

We were supposed to be checking into the Dolphin this evening but I ended up having emergency surgery to have an impacted wisdom tooth removed yesterday afternoon and there is no way I can fly today :sick::sick::headache::headache::headache:

We are going to try to fly out on Monday now so please please please wish me luck that this works out :wizard::wizard::wizard::wizard::wizard: We had to cancel our vacation last year because I ended up hospitalized and I just really really don't want to miss this trip - it's for my son's 18th birthday :stitch2:

I've never not felt like I was right in the heart of WDW when staying at S/D. You can look out the window & see Epcot, ToT at DHS and The Boardwalk. I can't get that at many WDW resorts!

A cab is $65 one way from MCO to S/D. Mears shuttle is $19 one way, I think about $32 round trip, per person. I've done both.

I guess I used to think that about the pool but now that we've been three times in a year (through a totally unplanned set of circumstances), I guess I have a slightly different perspective. Last time we spent 10 days at BWV and never made it to the pool. This trip is really all about F&W. We'll do some Epcot rides, and we'll catch Fantasmic on our arrival day, but we'll have a lot more downtime than usual, so we've promised DS plenty of pool time.

I showed DS both pools. He'd be happy with either but he really wants the lazy river at BC. (And I would prefer to have DME.) I'll wait a few more days to see if the GP room-only discount appears for BC; if not, i'll book. The price on Travelocity is 40% off right now but I don't want to wait too long on that. The most important consideration for this trip is that we're in the boardwalk area. Location is definitely the key!

Tara, Mears is now $21 one way - still not a bad price. I just used it in July. I don't know if the round trip cost went up since I only needed a one way! :)

It might have always been $21, I might jsut have a foggy memory!

 I think your memory is just fine. I remember paying $19 in Oct 2010. :thumbsup2

I just checked Mears' website: Adults $21 one way/$34 round trip. Children 4 through 11: $17 one way/$27 round trip. Under 4 is free. :)

We just got back from our Disney vacation. We added two nights at the Swan the day before we left to make our vacation a little longer. We were unsure as to what to expect when we booked, as we normally book a Disney deluxe. We were soooo pleased with our stay at the Swan! We have decided that we may have to stay at the S/D for our entire trip the next time that we go to Disney! It was absolutely awesome!

2. When you're staying at the Swan/Dolphin does it feel like you're in the World? Does it still feel like Disney or just a nice hotel.

To some S/D does not have the Disney feel - the more I ask about elaborating the less response I get. It truly depends on your expectations. My personal joy when staying at S/D is hearing the ferry boats arrive at the dock in the causeway or seeing Characters in Flight rise in the east or seeing part of Illuminations at night or jogging around Crescent Lake to end up at an entrance to Epcot. I've been a DVC member for 3 years even though Bay Lake is our place my family home is at the Swan & Dolphin

Hi all....checking in again as its been a while. We've started planning our July 2012 trip and after three weeks of going back and forth decided to stay at the Dolphin once again! I can't seem to resist those alcove rooms!

I've got some reading to do as I haven't checked the thread...just saying hi to all!
