I was also told by regular Disney that if I booked my hotel through them and not through the event that I can't get transportation to the race Is that true?

That's is not correct...as long as you are staying at a host resort, you have transportation for the expo and races. The bus drivers have no way of knowing (and don't care! ;)) who you booked your room with. I don't know why they would have told you that.

That's what I thought. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if it's a better price. Hubby came home to tell me his knee hurts and he's worried (last year he couldn't run for months). He's killing me. I want to register now!!!

Hi All!

I haven't been chatting on this thread yet...but I've been lurking.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents for the room stuff.

I originally booked POFQ directly through Disney with a AAA rate. I can't remember what the RunDisney rate was, but I think they were comparable. There just seemed to be more rules around the RunDisney reservations, and if prices dropped, I wasn't sure if a RunDisney reservation could be changed.

A couple of weeks ago, I checked the sale rates. POFQ was higher than my original AAA rate, but the new princess rooms at POR were less, so I switched over. It seemed appropriate to stay in a princess room while doing the princess run!! :)

It looks like I was quoted $218 a night at POFQ with RunDisney I'm calling both regular Disney and RunDisney to get value quotes too. If its just hubby and I then we really don't care where we stay. I'm usually picky but since this is a last min trip I want to be able to control some aspect of price and this the only one I can.

Almost booked a princess room at POFQ with the same thought:). Went with BC because my sister is staying there

I am out for PHM. It seems my knee pain may be more serious than I thought. Went to the doctor today and am scheduled for an MRI Monday morning. Praying it is just a sprain.

For those of you who are doing Tink and the Princess half, how do you guys plan on continuing training from one race to the next? I'm just curious because I follow Hal Higdon's 12-week plan, and I kind of don't know what to fill in the 5 weeks between races. I debated just doing the last 5 weeks of the training plan I'm following now? I'm not sure. What do you guys plan to do?

I'm planning on doing 2 short runs and one longer run.....one recovery week, 2 longish weeks, one taper week.

I think I've done the math right on that one! lol! I think there is 4 weeks between - meaning the races are 5 weekends apart so I have 4 weekends to fill on my own.

Someone tell me if I can't count please!

About to run my 1st 5k run. I shouldn't be nervous, but I am. I've been running between 3 to 6 miles on my training runs, but somehow this is different. I'll be so glad when this is behind me. Someone send pixie dust my way ***

Have a great run! You've totally got this, and it's going to be a blast! Please come back here when you're done and tell us all about it.

Here's some pixie dust! pixiedust:

Thought I'd share my DUH! moment with you guys.

In between my Sept 30 HM and the PHM, I decided to do a speed improvement plan for a 5K on 12/2. The last 5K I ran was this same 5K in Dec 2011, and it was a rough race. I've improved my speed quite a bit since then (though yeah, I'm still very slow by most runners' standards), and I thought I'd concentrate on a shorter distance and more speedwork.

I chose Jenny Hadfield's advanced run 5K plan, since I've got a good base from a year of HM training. It has three levels of speedwork, A, B, and C, which I am following with a heart rate monitor. A was 2 minutes at 90-95% effort with a 4 minute recovery. You do this once a week for three weeks, with one extra interval each week, then move on to B, which is 3 minutes at 90-95% effort with a 3 minute recovery. I'm on the third week of B, and next week I'm supposed to move to C, which is 5 minutes with a two minute recovery.

O. M. G. Can I just say that 3 minutes of 90+% HRM is basically some kind of time-space vortex? Holy moly! I was not able to complete 3 full minutes for the third interval last week, and this week my HRM died and I was tired so I'm pretty sure I didn't quite make the 90% level. I'm looking at next week thinking "how the heck am I going to pull this off???"

I looked at it again last night and it says 5 minutes at 85-90%! Seriously, that 9 beat per minute difference (or so) is the difference between "I'm working hard" and "I'm going to die." It's the difference between "race pace" and "chased by zombies" pace (and not the slow, shambling kind of zombies either).

I've been trying to psych myself up to even try 5 minutes over 90%, being almost certain I can't accomplish it. Now that I know that I can do 5 minutes at 85% MHR, it's like, no problemo! :) Before I was wondering if Jenny Hadfield was insane. Or sadistic. Or both. Now it turns out I'm done with 90%+ speedwork and am off to the races, so to speak! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger? :rotfl2:

Good for you!! I responded to your previous post before scrolling down and seeing that you finished.

My husband and a few neighbors are supposed to run relay in a marathon tomorrow. One of the runners woke up with a cold yesterday and was trying to find a replacement. I feel like I should do it now as the other team is husband and wife so it would be two couples. The distance is 5.3 and I have run more then 5 miles (last Saturday's training run and it was my first time since spring)I'm supposed to do 3 miles today and them 6 next week. Ack!!! I don't know if I should step up and do it. I'm also concerned since its warming up and I have been running in the cold (and liking it) all week.

I was ready to step up and our neighbor called and said he feels much better so he is going to do it. I'm bummed. I was actually a little excited.

It's okay as I'm doing a turkey trot thanksgiving morning and a 10k the 29th of December.
