Just finished 38:10. My fastest time yet. Thanks! Feels amazing. Can't wait for Princess but I know I still have lots of work ahead of me.

Congrats on your finish ! I'm right there with you on times so I celebrate with you. Next week I do my 1st 10K...goal is 1:15...they say there is no time limit but I know the awards ceremony is 1 hour 20 after the start so that's why I want to finish before it starts.

Wishing you every luck. I finished a few steps behind the 3 rd place runner in my age, so felt really good about my run. I know I gave all I had. You'll do great!

Just finished 12 miles. That's the longest distance I've ever done so I'm pretty stoked about that. My first half is in 3 weeks! Taper here I come! Then I'll have to ramp it right back up for Princess! Yay!

Awesome job!

I have finally admitted defeat and am going to get some help for my stupid ITB problems. I did 5 miles last week in 52 min doing sort of a run a bit walk a bit thing and it seemed okay during the run but hurt like crazy afterward. It would hurt a little during transitions if I walked at all but mostly not too awful. I thought that was a good sign but then I barely managed 3 miles today without hideous pain. I ran the first mile at about 9:30, the second took me almost 11 minutes and the last was like 14 minutes because I walked most of it. My shin hurts now too, not just my knee.

So I broke down and made an appt on Monday for an evaluation at Athletico. It's close to where I live so I figured I am more likely to be able to fit it in if I need to go often. She said if I need PT, I will need to get a script from a Dr for it but they can at least check me out and see what it is for sure. Ugh.

My husband and a few neighbors are supposed to run relay in a marathon tomorrow. One of the runners woke up with a cold yesterday and was trying to find a replacement. I feel like I should do it now as the other team is husband and wife so it would be two couples. The distance is 5.3 and I have run more then 5 miles (last Saturday's training run and it was my first time since spring)I'm supposed to do 3 miles today and them 6 next week. Ack!!! I don't know if I should step up and do it. I'm also concerned since its warming up and I have been running in the cold (and liking it) all week.

Do it! Sounds like fun!

Doing the very same thing for my knees. Hopefully a little PT is a it takes to get us both back on track. Good luck!!

5k RACE

I had a 5k I did today. I was sooo hesitant to do it. It involved getting up early and driving in the dark...all in 30 degree weather. Once checked in, I thought I would still die from the cold. My son (19) ran the 5k too... and my daughter (7) ran a 1k. First I have to say I am so impressed with this race. I have ran one other race that this promoter has done... VERY organized. I also love that the kids got a really cool finishers medal..that is metal. Very cool. Add in the breakfast that they provided afterward for the race participants (yummy pancakes and eggs and BACON)...it was awesome! However, what I am most excited about is my performance. I really really didn't want to be on the last page..with maybe a few people behind me. That was my goal...and to not die because of the cold.....

I finished 7th in my division (only 12 seconds behind #6) out of 31. 81 out of 218 females and 228 out of 481 total participants.

My total time was 31:01 and my pace was exactly 10:00.

I am pretty proud of myself. Not only did I have a great time, but I didn't do nearly as bad as I had thought I might.

SHOES

I then stopped at the Nike outlet store near where the race was held (it is like an hour or so away, so best do go while up there) I had promised my dd that if she qualified for a local race that she could get new shoes. Since she brought home the paper work on friday stating that she had qualified - it was time to get those shoes. She picked out a pair...easy enough. Then I thought about how I am going to need a new pair. :scared: For those who were on the ToT thread, you might remember my month long drama getting one pair after another after another...and ending up with an injury that took weeks to heal... I HATE the thought of trying out a new shoe. I wear Nike Free Run 3s. They had free 7.0 in the store...and I just couldnt do it. They have a wider toe box...half the tongue attaches to the side of the shoe so it is not "loose" and the laces are off set... BUT more than anything... they have more support than my free run 3.0s Support is where I got into trouble in July... fitted for shoes, I was told I overpronate..and thus need a stability shoe. Bottom line...that did not work for me. I ended up rolling to the outside to much which led to peroneal tendonitis.

So now I am realizing that I am going to be very nervous in getting new shoes. I know I read all the time about people going to get new shoes and their tried and true has been "updated" to a new model.... So I know I am not alone in the "omg, I just want a pair like I have been running in" but... I didn't realize just how bad I was going to feel at the thought of replacing my shoes. :sad1: It will have to happen though... I think I finally got these in August...so I do have a bit of time left.....

GREAT job on your race! I can only hope to get to a 10 min mile!

I know how you feel about the shoe issue...when I went from Asics Kayano to Asics 2170...didn't know if I would like 2170's but...I love them. Still have the Kayano for my short runs and the 2170's for the long runs. Better arch support in the 2170's.

Hope your Doctor appointment goes well on Monday! If God had only designed women's knees differently we wouldn't have all these problems!;)

Awesome job and congrats on your race!! Sounds like so much fun (minus the waking up and 30 degree weather, yikes)!!

My hips have been really killing me lately. My doctor wants to do xrays to see if i have arthritis! At 30! Because of 15+!years of sports. Wish me luck. Between my itb tendonitis presenting in both knees, and my disk issues i don't need early arthritic hips!!!!!!!!!

Gaaah!!!! Noooo!!!! I hope its not arthritis and instead is something minor and very treatable. You've had more than your share! :(

I have hip problems... and use to take quite a bit of acetaminophen and naproxen sodium a day. It was suggested to me that I take Bromelain for it. (in europe is it used to treat arthritis) Now, I am not a naturopath/homeopath type person... AT ALL. I really was at my wits end with the discomfort so I tried. I am amazed at the difference it has made in my life. I almost take nothing else. I have a friend who is amazed that I run now because at just a bit past 30 (when my hip pain began) I could barely go for walks with her. She brings that up often...and I wonder if she thinks I was faking the hip pain.

Just thought I would share it has helped me... It is a bit hard on the tummy though... so be aware of that should you start to take it.
