About to run my 1st 5k run. I shouldn't be nervous, but I am. I've been running between 3 to 6 miles on my training runs, but somehow this is different. I'll be so glad when this is behind me. Someone send pixie dust my way ***

I have this same problem. Last night I had to tell myself to calm down... I run a 5k distance all the time... this should not stress me out. I hope that it is just something that someday we get over?

Just finished 38:10. My fastest time yet. Thanks! Feels amazing. Can't wait for Princess but I know I still have lots of work ahead of me.

Awesome!!! It is a nice feeling to have it done, isn't it! You will do great at the PHM!!!

I have finally admitted defeat and am going to get some help for my stupid ITB problems. I did 5 miles last week in 52 min doing sort of a run a bit walk a bit thing and it seemed okay during the run but hurt like crazy afterward. It would hurt a little during transitions if I walked at all but mostly not too awful. I thought that was a good sign but then I barely managed 3 miles today without hideous pain. I ran the first mile at about 9:30, the second took me almost 11 minutes and the last was like 14 minutes because I walked most of it. My shin hurts now too, not just my knee.

So I broke down and made an appt on Monday for an evaluation at Athletico. It's close to where I live so I figured I am more likely to be able to fit it in if I need to go often. She said if I need PT, I will need to get a script from a Dr for it but they can at least check me out and see what it is for sure. Ugh.

I hope the eval goes well... crossing my fingers it is an easy fix!!

GREAT job on your race! I can only hope to get to a 10 min mile!

I know how you feel about the shoe issue...when I went from Asics Kayano to Asics 2170...didn't know if I would like 2170's but...I love them. Still have the Kayano for my short runs and the 2170's for the long runs. Better arch support in the 2170's.

First, thanks... I never thought I would get down to 10 min miles. My husband pointed out to me today that it wasn't that long ago I was not sure I could keep under a 16 minute mile pace. It seems like it was a while ago, but he is right... 7 or 8 months? A friend got me to register for the ToT despite my not being able to even run around the block...let a lone a mile...let ALONE TEN! Registered (I think) in March..started training in April (?) I think I seriously started training in May. In fact...looking on my phone May 4th was my day 1 week 1 on the c25k. So 6 serious months... I swear if I can get here... ANYONE can!!!!

As for shoes... I tried your shoe. The 2170 was the first shoe the store put me in... :sad2: Just goes to show how everyone has different needs and likes and dislikes.

Awesome job and congrats on your race!! Sounds like so much fun (minus the waking up and 30 degree weather, yikes)!!

Thanks so much. It was super fun. I LOVE that we had a warm breakfast with lots of starbucks coffee waiting for us. Is it bad of me to be so food motivated? :rotfl: I swear it was the thing that got me out the door when the frost was so thick I wasn't sure if it wasn't in fact snow.. cause it was dark. Definitely not my favorite way to start my day. However, won't it be dark..and likely cold going to the bus for the PHM? Oh my...there I go dreaming about doing the PHM again. :rotfl:

Ok, annmarieda, you are registered for PHM. DO it! It's obvious that you still love running. It's also obvious that you really want to do PHM so do it!

I have hip problems... and use to take quite a bit of acetaminophen and naproxen sodium a day. It was suggested to me that I take Bromelain for it. (in europe is it used to treat arthritis) Now, I am not a naturopath/homeopath type person... AT ALL. I really was at my wits end with the discomfort so I tried. I am amazed at the difference it has made in my life. I almost take nothing else. I have a friend who is amazed that I run now because at just a bit past 30 (when my hip pain began) I could barely go for walks with her. She brings that up often...and I wonder if she thinks I was faking the hip pain.

Just thought I would share it has helped me... It is a bit hard on the tummy though... so be aware of that should you start to take it.

THANKS! I actually am very into naturopathy! I will look into that Bromelain stuff! I have major digestive issues so i will look into that aspect too, thanks for the heads up. It is my acu/chiro dr who wants to do the film on my hips actually, because they have been bothering me so much for awhile now. I wonder if it could be partly due to the fact that i don't do bikram ever anymore due to other issues that aren't too pleasant :-/ the heat and postures of the bikram series were really keeping me limber and lubricated. Just ordered a bunch of supplements as well. I'll keep you all posted, thanks for the continued support :-)

I have a lot of catching up to do on the thread. Hope everyone who is nursing injuries are feeling better soon. I am so excited. I ran my fourth half today and ran it in under 2:30. Just checked my official time and it's 2:29:17. That's almost a whole 6 minutes faster than my last half 3 weeks ago. I didn't really have a goal for this one since I have only run once since my last half. Life after Sandy has been a little crazy around here. Althoug we were increadibly blessed, no damage, not even a tree or branch down and our power was back on in 3 days. There are still parts of town without power and it won't be back until the residents can hire private electricians to make sure their circuit breaker boxes are ok from the flooding. :( It is so sad to see so many people right in front of us who have so much to deal with. I hope all the Princesses here that were in Sandy's path are safe. If there is anything any Jersey Shore Princesses need please let me know. We are all in this together.

Food ALWAYS keeps me motivated! I have an obsession with chipotle, so I usually treat myself after my long runs (after a week of running that I've also been dreaming about it). It never tasted so good :lovestruc

Speaking of long runs, today I ran 5 miles around my neighborhood, without stopping at a 10:30 mm. I am so proud of myself! I've never been able to do that :) I'm super optimistic about the next few races I got coming up AND feeling much more confident about the princess half! Woo hoo!! :cool1:

Hey princesses! I'm back from Africa! I'm way behind on this blog and I hope everyone is doing great in their training.

I ran my 10K race yesterday to get myself a good time to submit for the Princess 1/2. I ran the Chicago Perfect 10 yesterday and came in with an average pace almost a minute under my normal training pace: 11 min 45 sec! A princess in a tiara ahead of me definitely motivated me as I tried to catch her...and I did pass her in the end :p

Does anyone remember where we're supposed to send that time and what we do for proof of that?

I'm extremely happy with it, which make me rethink my pre-race routine. According to these results, I should be having lavish 5 course birthday dinners the night before and staying up until 2AM. Needless to say, I was a little tired post-race :faint:

Anyway, if anyone wants to see some of the things I was learning and seeing in Uganda with Shot@Life (the org I'll be running our race for), here is my blog that I'm still adding to:

Gotta brag on my boy! My 7 year old finished his first 5K today (with my DH). I couldn't be more proud of the little guy!!

I've been lurking for weeks and I'm happy to say I am finally caught up reading all of the posts! I opened the thread and kept reading a little here and a little there, but you guys kept adding more pages! :rotfl: I finally decided to sit here this morning and catch up! :thumbsup2

Sadly, I haven't been able to run since the TOT. I did finish, but had some heel and knee pain around mile 8. I took the custom insoles back to the foot dr who sent them off to be fixed. I get them back tomorrow.

I ended up buying a cushion pair of Asics and added insoles from Costco for my trip back to WDW at the end of Oct. There was no way I could walk in the running shoes without an insole. That was also causing knee pain. The Asics and the insoles still caused some pain, but I made it through.

At this point, any jogging in them I have tried seems to flair up the heel pain. Generally, the knee pain is gone. I am DYING to get back into training, but want to make sure the heel pain doesn't flair up into PF. I've been there and have no desire to repeat that or the 6+ months of PT I went through!

Congrats on your great half result! Under 2:30--that's a pretty major milestone! Brava! :cheer2:

Glad to hear you made it through the storm okay. Good thoughts to you and all the other Jersey runners!

I checked your blog--it looks like you're doing amazing work. :flower3:

Yay to all the princess runners testing out their jets this weekend! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

2 quick questions (I can't seem to find if they have already been answered).

Do we need to buy a ticket for the parks the day of the race? I would like to spend some time at Magic Kingdom before heading home.

Is there a benefit of staying onsite during the weekend other them event transportation?

Thanks. Had a good 3 miles yesterday, beat my previous time by 30 seconds. Bummed I didn't get to fill in at the relay today but it sounds like my hubby had a good race and his knee is feeling good. Booking airline tickets today!!!

I'm the same way, ha ha. After my 5 mile run hubby and I did beer and wings. As nauseous as I get while running I'm surprised as to how hungry I am when I'm finished.

Funny how after long runs EVERYTHING tastes amazing. ;) Good job on your 5 mile! Isn't it a great feeling when you reach a milestone like that? I think it helps the outlook. I know that my race yesterday gave me a tad bit more hope that I will well on my next 10k and anything beyond :goodvibes

Good luck... I really didn't want to come across as a crazy "try this remedy and it will fix the world" person.... but seriously I couldn't live without the stuff now. (well, I could...but I probably wouldn't be running quite like I am)

I am sorry to hear about your set back. It is very frustrating to have pain and or an injury that prevents us from getting out there. I hope once you get your insoles back you will be able to enjoy yourself again (cause running while in pain is NOT enjoyable)

You do need to buy a ticket to get into the park after the race is over. You can get in during the race without a ticket but once the race is over, you need a ticket to stay.

As far as being on site (other than transportation) the other benefit is just being there which is awesome!:cloud9:

What about for the kids race? It is in Epcot so do the parents get in to watch without a ticket or is a ticket needed?

I am back from an amazing vacation on the Disney Magic! This was the best vacation we have ever taken. We ran on deck only twice. I wanted to get three runs in but we were so tired by the last day we didn't do much! What I did do was take the stairs. And I think that may not have been a very good idea! I decided we would skip the elevators. We were on deck 8 so at times we were taking 5-7 flights!
Well, today I did the "Mini Marathon" as part of the Rock n Roll series. It was three miles and it was my worst run in a long time. About 1/4 mile in my calves felt like they had turned to stone. I walked a lot just trying to keep moving. I was able to slow run most of the last mile and a half or so. I came in at 44:55 for 3 miles. (14:59/mile pace) I was actually really happy when I saw that time because I thought I was much slower than that. I am kicking myself for insisting on the stairs, thinking I was doing good when it turned out I probably sabotaged myself. Lesson learned I guess!

Glad to see you are safely back in San Antonio. Feel for everybody doing the Rock N Roll Marathon, half marathon, and mini as today it is really humid!

Interesting you brought up the stairs and how your calf feels as one of the first things our running coach said NOT to do for XT was stairmaster as it would "kill" our calves so hubby does elliptical.

Be proud of your time...you got out there and did it while I...sat at home! :(

Doing the Boerne 10K Turkey Trot on 17 Nov....had an okay 6 mi yesterday but want to improve for next week hoping to turn it in for a good corral placement.

Figures! Oh, well. Like I said, I taught myself a pretty painful lesson!! :sad2:
