The New *Official 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon Thread*

Well, in a weird turn of events, hubby has decided to take up running . Apparently, he decided this while I was at the gym this morning. He is doing his first 5K with me in July and asked if men were allowed to run in the PHM. :lmao: I have mixed feelings about him participating, but if he does like it, then it might mean more trips to Disney in our future!

That can be a good thing. And much more importantly--it could mean many more trips to WDW and DL. DH and I have done the DL 1/2 for years together and it's fun running and training together. However, I also really like running by myself in the Tink and will be running by myself in the Princess while DH and son watch.

Hi Princesses!! Hope everyone's training is going well. I haven't been training, but I'm getting back on the wagon this weekend. I hadn't talked to DH about going to the PHM and wasn't sure how he'd react. Well, I casually mentioned it to him this week, and he said sure. I kept asking what's the catch? He just said it's one less trip to Disney that he has to take!! Woohooo! I'm officially going to do this... for me! Now... anyone have any advice on how I can break the news to my DD and DS that I'll be going to Disney without them?

How old and how many times have your kids gone? My older 2 are ok that I am going without them. In fact, DS8 said tonight, "Disney is stupid." :scared1: The sacralidge! Where did I go wrong in my parenting?! Any way, we have gone 8 times and I know we will go again. So there is no guilt here on leaving the kiddos and DH behind. Last year they were all so grumpy the whole trip, they don't deserve to go again. :P

My advice is if you know you will go with the kids again let them know that this is a special trip for mommies and they will have their turn soon. Maybe if there is something special they want, you can bring it home for them.

Count me in!! My first race and just started training. One thing keeps popping in my head. Can I do this?? I am so excited to try!!

I'm in! This will be my first half and I'm thrilled to be doing it at Disney, Princess style:cheer2:

Another question about hubby running-- I read somewhere that men were banished to corral C and beyond. Is that true?

Welcome and YES you can do it !!!! Maybe check out a training program to help and give you a little guidence. I'm a big fan of Jeff Galloway's walk/run training programs. You can get more info on the RunDisney site.

Now you can pick out a tiara to wear :)

I'm currently training for a triathlon so I run three days a week then bike and swim the other days because it uses different muscle groups. The biking and swiming are double workout days am and pm but you could do one or the other.

I'm training for a tri, too! It's my first, so I decided to stick to an Olympic distance. Right now I'm running 4 times/week, swimming 3 times/week, and biking twice/week. I know it's not exactly balanced, but I have a full marathon to train for right after I finish the tri, so I've been trying to keep my running mileage to 30 miles/week (with an absolute bare minimum of 25 miles/week.)

As exhausting as balancing all three sport are, it's also a ton of fun! I was toying with the idea of a 70.3 next year, but now that I'm engaged and planning a wedding now for next year. And apparently I'm not allowed to get clipless pedals for my bike until after the wedding (in case of a bad fall when I'm on the learning curve lol) and I refuse to do a 70.3 without clips...so 2014 for 70.3 it is!

Yes this year no man was given a corral A Or B, I don't remember if they had to start in C or after C.

Yes the men were in corral C this past year. I was in B - as I was running I could hear the fireworks when corral C started and pretty soon after there were a ton of men zipping past me! I was like, dang, whatever!

Now... anyone have any advice on how I can break the news to my DD and DS that I'll be going to Disney without them?

The first year, I decided not to tell mine ahead of time and just deal with the fallout when I got back. I told them that I was running a race with Ms. Julie in Florida. However, one of my sons must have snuck a peek at my folder with all my stuff in it, because on a call to my DH during the weekend he said, "Jake knows - I heard him telling his friend that his mom was running a race at Disney". They were surprisingly okay with it and I came home with presents, so it was all good! This past year was not a big deal as we already planned to do a Disney cruise this summer, so they knew they would be doing something fun.

You can!! If you aren't already, start with a 5k program so you'll be ready to switch to the Princess Plan in Oct. You may want to find a local 5k just to get race experience, or do the 5k at ToT or Wine and Dine at Disney for a taste of how awesome the races are! :)

That's what I'm thinking of doing.

They are still young and love Disney, and we will be going for our 2nd trip in November.

I won't be telling them anything until right before I go. Hopefully, they will be ok. It's not like I'm taking a week vacation for the PHM... just a few nights away.

Welcome new princesses! You will have such blast for Princess weekend! You can do it! princess:

Thanks everybody! A local hospital near us has a superhero themed 5K and half marathon in October. So, that will be my first 5K...

Does anyone know how busy the parks are that day and the week after. We're getting into town Friday night and taking it easy Saturday then, depending how I feel Sunday go to the parks after staying until Wednesday.

We're also planning on arriving Friday and doing parks Sun-Wed. Its school vacation week here in NH, but I would venture to say its not quite as busy as the week of President's Day.

Registration begins in five weeks!

A question for those veteran princesses -- I am interested in signing up for the racer's retreat. When does that become available? I read that it was sold out last year for the PHM. In the past, how long before it sells out?

:thumbsup2 Year-round local here - definitely not as bad as President's Week and often quite quiet!

:yay: I'm hoping the DVC discount code is out in time to register the first day or two - I want to get it done, already!

popcorn:: Ooo, I'm awaiting responses to this, too...

Touring Plans shows the parks to be crazy busy on Friday and Saturday, not quite as busy on Sunday, and then quiet the week after the race. Crossing my fingers that this will hold true!:tink:

Vermont has the week before off but our school district has half the next week off so I figured I would try for more the week after. I'm crossing my fingers as well this is true! My 3 yr old DS has some crowd issues as well so we take Disney at a different pace.

I do hope it's pretty quiet afterwards.

How much is the DVC discount, generally?

Oh, and I did see on the PHM runDisney site [while looking for something else] that the race retreat didn't sell out until February 20th. That's a good sign!
