I would love to hear how often everyone runs. I was doing 3 training runs and 1 fun run with my son a week. I was able to move to 4 runs a week plus the fun run, but I noticed that my performance suffered on the second day of back to back running days, so I am thinking about going back to 3 training runs a week, but I would like to do something on my non-running days.

Do any of you cross-train on your non-running days? What do you do to cross-train?

Thanks!!!

My training schedule is similar to Princess V's, with 2 short runs (30-40 min) and one long run (at 7km now, adding about half km a week). I also do a boot camp fitness class (works legs, arms and core) and walk on non-running days. It generally looks like this:
Mon - short run
Tues - walk and fitness class
Wed - walk
Thurs - short run
Fri - walk
Sat - long run
Sun - rest

I'm off track this week as I'm fighting a sinus infection (just got home from the doctor's with antibiotics and nasal spray), so my short run last night was only 10 minutes if that - which was frustrating because it was a beautiful afternoon to run after the hot, humid weather we had earlier in the week. At this point I don't think I'll do my long run tomorrow but I may try on Sunday if I feel better by then.

I'm also trying to figure out where to add in some fun runs with my daughters (ie. 2km or less with them setting the pace) in our crazy schedule as they would like to do a couple of races this summer too. It will probably end up being Wednesday's as their dance and piano classes wrap up next week.

I do my short runs on Tuesday and Thursday, long run on Saturday with my only cross training being chasing kids all day every day!!

Hi everyone! :wave2: Newbie to this board but not to the DIS'ers. I won't be able to do the Princess next year as we're saving our pennies for a trip to Italy (the real one, not the Epcot one:laughing:), but the DH and I are registered for this year's Wine and Dine Half. Not our first half but it has been 5 years since the last one. Running 3-4 times a week (3-6 miles) with a longer (8 miles of hill sprints so far), once a week. Any advice anyone would like to share will be welcomed and appreciated!:yay:

Thanks for the tip -- I pulled up some videos and they are very motivating. I will probably watch a couple tonight to get motivated for tomorrow's run!

I thought I saw on a posting from last year, that they give you a discount on your resort room at Disney if you register for the Princess 1/2. Is that true and does anyone know what the discount is? I am trying to do some planning for the trip.

Thanks!!![/QUOTE]

I have started with the Galloway plan for Tues, Thurs and long run on Saturday and for a truly, truly, truly beginner it has been great for me. Longest run so far has been 4 miles and I felt great after as I had done some calf/shin stretches before hand that I think really helped. I am meeting for the first time with my personal trainer/running coach on 6 Jun so I'm sure he will add some cross training into my plan as he has already discussed doing swimming, biking, and working on upper body strength.

I just love your quote about dogs, you know being listed as "gryhndmom" that I am a "furry kid Mom" to four very spoiled adopted racing Greyhounds. And yes, they do not particularly like that Mom goes out for a walk or run without them though they do race me up and down the front fence !:thumbsup2

Yay, more Princesses! :welcome:

We're enjoying a cool front around these parts for a few days - woo hoo! I celebrated by walking 8 miles this morning. According to the Princess map on my desktop, this means I've made it all the way to the real bathrooms just after the TTC. Now, that's a goal a girl can truly aspire to! :rotfl:

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

I'm currently training for a triathlon so I run three days a week then bike and swim the other days because it uses different muscle groups. The biking and swiming are double workout days am and pm but you could do one or the other.

I have completing a triathalon on my bucket list, but I have to learn to swim first  How long of a triathalon are you training for?

How did you find a running coach? Are they expensive?

Where do you find the Princess course map? I want to print it out to use as inspiration?

Thanks! And Happy Friday!! :yay:

Logistically, my hubby will have our 2 kids (5 and 3) and we were thinking that they would come see me at MK and then at the finish. I'm wondering if it would be easier for them to just head to MK (but what time--thinking about road closures, but not wanting to have them waiting for 3 hours?) rather than come to the start with me and then try to get over? I just can't wrap my head around this for some reason. If you've had your kids at the race..how did you work it all out? What time did they have to be up?

Last year I told DH to be in MK by 7. We had the advantage of having a car there so he drove and got routed to the TTC. (Never did see him in MK, I think he left before I got there :( ). My mom stayed with the kids and took the bus over to Epcot and saw me pass as we entered the park back stage. I think she was there by 8:30 so that wasn't too bad for the kids. I didn't want the kids getting up too early and being tired and miserable for the rest of the day. DH was a big old crank pot and copmplaining that he got up at 6:30. Really?? You are going to whine to me? I was up at 3:00 AM and ran 13 point freakin' 1 miles. You know what I wasn't tired! Ahhh adrenaline!

:rotfl2: I think this is what is going to happen with us too!

So, after talking with a friend of mine, I took the leap and signed up for a half marathon at the end of Sept. :scared1: It seems so.... soon.

Next year I am leaving the whiners at home and going with friends. Yay! Girls trip!! :banana:princess:

A very kind princess posted it a few pages back but my computer is loading so slowly that I'd never find it.

This one is from 2010 but looks the same as what was posted:

It has been inspirational for me in training, too. This morning, I was thinking about where I would be on the Princess route - pretty fun!

:rotfl2: I'm not sure how my DH and mouseketer will do watching me run...we also have to deal with adjusting to the East Coast time difference. That's going to be tough the time change plus getting up at 3:00.

Can someone please tell/explain where the bathrooms are at the TTC? Are they easy to see from the race course or are they off and hard to locate?

This princess has never ever seen or been to the TTC. I just really need to know where the real bathrooms are. That's my biggest concern.

I think I posted the map. Looking at it, it was from 2009. It looks pretty similar to the 2012 route, except the start and finish look a tiny bit different. But, here, I found the link to the 2012 course. It's a PDF file, so it will be easy to print.

Not kidding - BEST decision EVER. NO packing a big 'ol bag for everyone, no getting the stink eye from the frugal DH when I wanted to buy something to eat or drink, no 20 minute negotiations about what to ride when and who wants to ride what..... My children are all boys, so I know I would never get to stand in line for the princesses or hit some of the more girly things. I'm dying to take them to WDW soon, but the Princess is just for me and my running buddy! :hippie:

Well, in a weird turn of events, hubby has decided to take up running . Apparently, he decided this while I was at the gym this morning. He is doing his first 5K with me in July and asked if men were allowed to run in the PHM. :lmao: I have mixed feelings about him participating, but if he does like it, then it might mean more trips to Disney in our future!

Hey Figment Mom ! I found my running coach by doing a search of certified coaches in my area (San Antonio, TX/New Braunfels, TX) and then went to various peoples website. I like Rob since he will do one on one coaching (which is actually "two" since my husband is training too!), meet with us at least once a month and draw up a training plan based on our goals, physical limitation etc. Hubby and I really needed someone to look at our running/fast walking style and "fix" any issues etc. As far as cost, really not any more expensive than paying a monthly gym membership or hiring a trainer at the gym. I found last year's course map by just a google search of " Disney Princess half marathon course". Let me know if you go the running coach way!

Yeah on your husband doing the PHM with you! Tell him he won't be alone since mine will be along with me! And yes...I hope too that it means more Disney trips!

My leg and ankle is still healing. I walk/run for 4.27 miles in 1 hr today. It feels good to get back to the gym.

Hi Princesses!! Hope everyone's training is going well. I haven't been training, but I'm getting back on the wagon this weekend. I hadn't talked to DH about going to the PHM and wasn't sure how he'd react. Well, I casually mentioned it to him this week, and he said sure. I kept asking what's the catch? He just said it's one less trip to Disney that he has to take!! Woohooo! I'm officially going to do this... for me! Now... anyone have any advice on how I can break the news to my DD and DS that I'll be going to Disney without them?
