Thanks VickiHD and cantwaitvaca - your kind thoughts mean a lot:hug:

I have managed to do all of my long runs lately, so at least that's good. I've been doing 7 miles each weekend in prep for this 10K coming up. And I plan to shop at the expo they have going on before the race and get myself some new running gear.:)

The 10K is in Foxboro and ends at Gillette Stadium (home of the NE Patriots) by running through the tunnel and to the 50-yard line. There's a group of about 9 of us (adults and kids) doing either the 5K/10K. And with the fireworks afterward, we plan on having a good ol' time.

Holly

I just did that on the Chicago Bears field on Saturday but it was 10 miles. It was awesome to be down on the field. !!

I was just looking at that race at Gillette--It's on July 3rd? I have a 5K on the 4th already scheduled, but that one does look like fun! Have a great time!

That's the one! I'm a huge Pats fan so I couldn't pass up the chance to run on the field.

Where in NH are you? I was looking at a 5-miler at Anheuser-Busch that ends at a Ribfest on June 17. The only thing is I have a late night flight that arrives back in Boston the night before the race, so I'm not sure I want to get up early and make the drive to Merrimack.

Hi! A little late to this. I'm also in for the Princess Half for 2013. So excited! This will be my first half and I thought that this would be a great start.

I am sorry things are so rough but I think you have a good plan going. Even if you are not motivated you are doing your long runs and those can be the hardest for me.

The race there sounds awesome! How neat!!

I'm in Rochester. :) You?

I may have to look into that one...my husband might not be so bored waiting for me to finish if he had some ribs. :rotfl:

HappyBaker, hang in there. That must be tough, so def. allow yourself some time to grieve. And, yes, men run faster than women naturally - it "irritates" me that I've run 4 half marathons in 2 years and run at least 4 times a week with a long run on the weekend but my husband, who runs on the treadmill at work a few times a week, can still whip my a** in a race. :headache:

Here's what you do - you keep up this running thing, get some really sculpted legs and buns of steel & get yourself a new man!:rotfl:

Seriously, be careful about skipping midweek runs and just doing the long runs. I went through a period like that last summer and while I don't think it caused my shin splints, it certainly didn't help the condition any.

Hi everyone

I just decided to train for the 2013 Princess Half Marathon yesterday. So glad I looked around and found this thread!! My last race was in 2003. Uh, it's been a long time. A very, very, very long time. Anyway, I'm excited to get started again, and at my favorite place in the world

I've pulled out my old Galloway book and have been looking up training plans online. I'm looking forward to this!:banana:

Welcome !!!!

I'm planning to run this year! This will be my first runDisney event and I am so excited! :yay: :goodvibes

Can you please add me to the roster TinyDancer? Thanks!

I like that idea about getting sculpted!:thumbsup2 I've been getting one/two short runs in the last few weeks and the long run in on the weekend, but it's been a struggle getting out for the short ones. The weather hasn't been cooperating much either.

I'm in Kennebunkport ME. Yeah, I love a race that ends with food or beer.

Congrats on the 10 miles. I've only gotten up to 8 so far. I can't wait to get on the field. Did they show you on the jumbotron when you crossed the finish line?

Welcome to all the new princesses over the last couple of days.

Yes you are on the jumbotron as you finished my DH got a picture of me on it.

It was very cool to do once, but I don't think I would do it again, too too too many people

Cool! I'm hoping one of my friends doing the 5K will be able to snap a picture of me. I think the field is capped at 6000 for both races total, so I'm hoping it's not too too crowded. And I'm slow, so once everyone gets going, I usually don't have an issue with the crowds. :rotfl2:

I think for us it was 20,000 plus people.
I am in the back of the pack to, my pace was 12:47 and I am very happy with that, but the start sucked. I was in the last corral and we did not run until an hour after the start. Standing there for an hour just about killed my feet.

Wow...that's a lot of folks and a long time to be standing around waiting. I don't think my feet would have been happy either.

It's been a crazy week so, I didn't get to check in like I'd hoped.

I want to thank everyone for your great tips on motivation!

I agree, I feel the same here. I tell everyone so there's no way I want to tell them I gave up. I have lost 40 lbs so far and 20 lbs from my goal. I feel so much better with my new healthy lifestyle.

Congrats! That is awesome!

third goal is to improve my time so I can stop for character pictures.

The whole reason I am working on improving my time is so I can stop for the characters. The characters have been one of my favorite parts on WDW since my first visit at 7 yrs old.

I gravitate to Youtube when I need some motivation. I pull up PHM videos and watch them. Works for me every time.

Thanks for the tip -- I pulled up some videos and they are very motivating. I will probably watch a couple tonight to get motivated for tomorrow's run!

How often are you girls running? My max per week is 4.

I would love to hear how often everyone runs. I was doing 3 training runs and 1 fun run with my son a week. I was able to move to 4 runs a week plus the fun run, but I noticed that my performance suffered on the second day of back to back running days, so I am thinking about going back to 3 training runs a week, but I would like to do something on my non-running days.

Do any of you cross-train on your non-running days? What do you do to cross-train?

I thought I saw on a posting from last year, that they give you a discount on your resort room at Disney if you register for the Princess 1/2. Is that true and does anyone know what the discount is? I am trying to do some planning for the trip.

Thanks!!!

I'm currently training for a triathlon so I run three days a week then bike and swim the other days because it uses different muscle groups. The biking and swiming are double workout days am and pm but you could do one or the other.

I currently run 3 days a week. This week I am just starting to add in some strength/cross training. I've done some core and upper body work this week. I'll probably walk, swim, maybe try a zumba class or something on the other non-run days, and leave one day completely off before my long run.

I'm stressing about where we will stay. I like the idea of staying at a host resort for transportation, but the kids want to stay at POP, and I'd also love to try AoA.

Logistically, my hubby will have our 2 kids (5 and 3) and we were thinking that they would come see me at MK and then at the finish. I'm wondering if it would be easier for them to just head to MK (but what time--thinking about road closures, but not wanting to have them waiting for 3 hours?) rather than come to the start with me and then try to get over? I just can't wrap my head around this for some reason. If you've had your kids at the race..how did you work it all out? What time did they have to be up?

I run 3 days a week - 2 35-40 min runs mid-week and one long run on weekends. My 40+yo body can't take the beating of running more than that in a week. But I do cross-train on the days between runs, with Fridays as designated rest days. My week looks like this lately:
M: short run
T: EA Active on the Wii (mostly no impact lunges, squats and upper body strengthening)
W: short run
Th: 1 mile walk plus power yoga
F: rest
Sat: long run
Sun: power yoga, pilates or NYC Ballet workout

On the runDisney race page, it'll show a special number to call for race discounts on host-resort packages. I called for the 2012 Princess rates and found runDisney's room-only (I'm a passholder, so no need for tix) to be a bit more than the passholder discount at a non-host resort, but considerably better than regular rates.

I remember a few people last year saying that's exactly what their families did and it was a much better experience than trying to be there for the dark start. Hopefully one of those folks will swing by with a first-hand account here!

I am doing 3 runs a week and then 2 days of strengthening from my PT to help with some balance recovery stuff from my surgery. I do 2 runs about 30-40 minutes each during the week and then a long run on the weekend. I am following the Jeff Galloway 10K training program right now.

I am stressing about where to stay too mostly because I want to be at a host resort but we are DVC members so I need to be able to book something at 7 months which maybe a challenge. I want to know the official host resorts and I DO NOT want to wait until July (I do bad with waiting) :rotfl:

I think having them go to MK makes the most sense. Even if they have to wait it will be more exciting there than in the dark at the starting line. We are leaving the kids and DH already has said he will see me at the finish but he will not be getting up to go anywhere else. He is lucky I love him!
