I think I'm going to buy Sesame Street Live tickets for this weekend! Just saw them online. I think Vaylie will get a total kick out of it. And SIL just called, so they might go along too! Fun times. (OT- we were talking about when to have the next kid, and she was like, "You should have another now, that way I won't want one for a while..." :lmao: I was like, I was just saying that YOU need to have one!) Too funny.

DMickey- no her crib isn't convertible. Just a plain ol' crib. I think we will get her a toddler bed, then buy a bunk bed that can be split into 2 twin beds- that way, no matter what the next kid is, we'll have a bed. And if they share a room they can be bunked, and if they get separate rooms, then we can take the bunks apart and each will have a twin bed. AND HOW EXCITING that Alexander went in the potty! :cheer2: Vaylie will sit on it, but that is it. And sometimes she won't even do that. :rolleyes: We're slowly working on it though. And I bribe her with stickers.

Kelly- you are gorgeous, and seriously- no one will ever notice 10 lbs. Unless you only weighed 5 lbs to begin with. ;) They will notice you looking adorable in your strapless black dress, your gorgeous smile, and your cute-as-a-button little man, who is totally worth that stubborn 10 lbs, right? :hug:

As for weight- I am at almost 240. :guilty: I weighed 230 when I got pregnant. The day I went to give birth I weighed 241. The day I came home from the hospital I weighed about 220ish. And it has climbed back up in that 2 years. So, one major goal for me is to lose at least 40 lbs before I get pregnant with the next one.

jennyL- I would think animals would be easy to find, too! Hope you find something that works out!

Awwww....thanks ladies for all the kind words. :grouphug: :goodvibes And you're right Becky....my little guy is well worth some extra weight!!! I keep telling myself, at least the dress is black, right? :rolleyes:

DMickey - that is GREAT that Alexander went in the potty! :thumbsup2 Brady grabs at his diaper right before he needs to go - so we bought a Baby Bjorn potty. But, nothing yet. He comes over to me, grabs his diaper, and by the time I whisk him into the bathroom and take off his clothes, he has usally already gone. I figure maybe this summer when the weather is warmer and he is wearing less layers it will be easier! Thanks for the birthday wish! :goodvibes

Jenny - Hope you have some luck finding stuff for the party! I ran into the same issue with Brady's party. We did a sailboat theme, which apparently is not popular at all! Wish I had known that before I picked it! I actually ended up getting lots of decorative stuff at The Christmas Tree Shop (I think this store may be a northeast thing...not sure). Next year I figure we will do Mickey Mouse...so that will be easier to find I think!

So I made a cute 1-year picture-video of pics of Brady from the fall. If you are bored and want to check it out...here's the link! :happytv: http://s251.photobucket.com/albums/gg281/bradyboyjohnston/?action=view&current=Brady1year.flv

Amber - too funny that Spencer is yelling out Bob - does he watch Bob the builder or another show with a bob in it?

Nope. He also doesn't have a bottle, so it's not like he is trying to say that either.

I could have written this exact thing. DH and I are trying to eat better, but we never seem to get motivated to exercise. We really need to though. I don't want Spencer to learn our bad habits.

Kelly, I agree with everyone else. You look fantastic and I am sure no one means anything when they talk about your friends weight loss. :grouphug:

Spencer is being a pill. We went to Walmart and he tried grabbing things off the shelves. We told him no and he threw a fit. There was a lot of screaming and he started throwing himself backwards. :sad2: I had to take him out of the store. Then tonight he has been screaming if told no and then again throws himself down. As soon as the tantrum is over he tries to do the same thing we just stopped him from doing. If he is like this now, WTH are the "Terrible Two's" going to be like??? Any advice?

Kelly- That was so flippin' cute! I was getting all misty watching it! Vaylie watched it with me and was pointing out the toys they have in common. :laughing: She kept saying, "Aw, baby." And we bought the Baby Bjorn potty too- Vaylie picked it out last weekend. (We have another one that she doesn't seem to like to much). I tried to get her to pick the pink one, but she insisted on white. SO- the next morning I got it out and put it in the bathroom, and what does she say?

"No! Pink one!" :rolleyes:

Amber- good luck. Vaylie has been a pill all day, too. I don't know what the heck is going on. She does have a runny nose, so maybe she isn't feeling so hot, but lately she has taken to screaming bloody murder when she doesn't get her way. Fun stuff. :eek:

Awwww...thanks Becky!! :goodvibes Brady loves watching them too! I have a bunch like that (I try to do them every few months or so) and we burned them on to DVD's to watch on the tv. Brady loves to label all the people..."mama", "dada", and "baby". Not sure he realizes that the baby is actually HIM, though! ;)

Too funny about the potty!! The pink one was so cute! I had heard great things about the Baby Bjorn potty...easy to clean and use. We will see!

Amber - Yup...right there with you. Brady loves to scream and throw tantrums when he doesn't get his way. Tonight he kept screaming at the 99 Restaurant when we would take his milk away (because he kept taking out the straw and blowing milk everywhere). So - either a screaming kid or a milk-shower. :rolleyes: Finally we were able to distract him with something else...but it really sucks when they have tantrums it out in public. I try my best not to give-in - but it is SO HARD sometimes!!

I have a question, ladies.

Right now Vaylie still uses sippy cups. Mostly because she isn't quite coordinated enough with her mouth to drink out of a "big" cup without making a total mess.

But at what point should I lose the sippy cup? At what point does the sippy cup become bad for their mouths? I'm worried about the transition. We do let her use a cup and straw, and she's getting pretty good at holding it herself and drinking. I just don't want to get to a point where she is dependent on or too attached to the sippy cup...

Any ideas?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today is Inauguration Day!! I think I am going to bake red, white and blue cupcakes!! :)
And, since I am home alone today (DH is at work and Vaylie is at my mom's), I am going to CLEAN MY HOUSE!!! :yay:
Becky, Sam & Zoe have been using the straw sippy (sports bottle looking with a spill proof top/valve) cups for almost two months now with thier water,and they use the take and toss cups with a lid/straw at mealtimes with milk. They are nowhere near ready to use a regular cup, and i am not quite ready to start working with them on it!!!
I read that using a straw does help with oral/motor development from a OT that came to speak to the twins club. Kelley, as a speech/lang pathologist can you vouch for this at all? Maybe you could try Vaylie with a small open cup not very full just a meals, and guver he a leakproof straw cup for drinking during the day?
Meredith- I think you're right about the straw and motor development, because my Dnephew recieves speech therapy and he has been switched to straw cups to strengthen his mouth/muscles. That isn't so much my concern, since goodness knows my kiddo doesn't need help talking! :lmao: She's kind of got that one down!
But I also don't want to let her use it too long and then harm her oral development, either. I think I will take your suggestion and get those take-n-toss with straws, and we'll start trying a small cup with meals, when I can assist her. :) Thanks!
One more thing..I would NOT reccomend the take and tosses for anyhing other than at the dinner table because they leak some. Get something different for that if you let her have water at avaliable at all times! :goodvibes
Amber - I have no advice. Alexander is like that too. Going out to eat is a thing of the past, we tried on Friday. $100 for a horribly rushed dinner. I find that the earlier I go shopping the better he is. He wants to walk and he doesn't want to hold hands anymore. By going earlier in the day he can walk and take his time without getting in peoples way. I also (Bad Mommy) put him in the big part of the cart with a sippy and snack and he's happy as a clam to sit for a little while. For us, a lot of it has to do with him not talking much so he gets frustrated and can't say anything. It's also the age and I expect this to be going on for the next year or so. I just ignore it when we are home and he finds himself somehting else to play with.
We went down to a My Gym to meet some friends and try the class out. I think I like it better than Gymboree. Alexander seemed to have a lot more fun with it so I"ll have to decide if I want to keep Gymboree and ADD my gym or cancel Gymboree.
ETA: We use the take and toss sometimes but THEY DO LEAK. They are nice for the restaurant when he wants a big boy cup with a straw because we have soda glasses. We use the isulated sippy's with the hard spout otherwise. The soft spout ones he chews and they leak worse than the take and toss ones. He is good with the straw but likes to take it out and try to drink out of the hole without the straw in it!! Silly boy! Then I give him a big boy cup and he spills it everywhere!
Ah! Good to know!
As for sippy-cups...I think using them for a while is fine, Becky. Using a straw is supposed to help with strengthening oral muscles. BUT, there has been a lot of research coming out that says the overall effect is really minimal. Where I went to grad school, they were not very into what is called "oral motor" exercises (using a straw, blowing stuff across the table, etc...) as a form of treatment. Other, more researched and efficacious treatment methods were always advised with children with apraxia and other oral issues.
We used the take-and-toss sippy cups down in Disney, and yes they did leak and the covers came off! I like the straw take-and-toss better....I usually ditch the straw that it comes with (liquid always squirts out) and use a regular straw instead. Brady loves them! :thumbsup2
********************************************************
I have been mowing on chocolate covered strawberries all day that Brady got me for my b-day....not exactly on my diet! ;) But...they are darn good!!
Oh - and did anyone notice they were playing Illuminations music on ABC today everytime they cut in/out to commerical during the Inauguration? Loved it1 :cool1:
Oh yeah, Happy Birthday Kelly! And strawberries are still fruit, even if they are dipped in chocolate! YUM!
Hi everyone. I haven't had a chance to read and catch up again. We ended up bringing Christopher to the hospital Monday night, and we've been there ever since. He had the stomach bug, and now he won't eat. Which doesn't work well when he still needs insulin. So until he's back to eating and being himself, we're stuck at the hospital. The docs are thinking he may go home today, or tomorrow morning. I'm sitting at work dying since I had to come in this morning. I've been burning through my sick and vacation time, so I didn't dare miss another day. :sad:
Wish us luck.
Jen
Aw, Jen. :hug:
I hate that this is going on for you, and I hate that you've had to use up all your sick and vacation time.
Can you take FMLA so that when you need a day off to care for Christopher you can get one? I know it probably won't be paid, but at least you'll have excused absenses.
Oh Jen....you have been through so much lately with Christopher!! :grouphug: I don't know anything about FMLA, but it sounds like something good to look in to. If you need anything, I am only a car-ride away....please let me know!!! :goodvibes Keep us posted on Christopher....we are all thinking of him!
Jen - I am so sorry Christopher is sick. I hope he feels better soon. I agree with looking into FMLA.
Kelly - I am so glad that you are close to Jen if she needs you. I wish I was up there too but maybe soon. Who knows anymore!! DH and his job are in a love/hate relationship. Sometimes it's great and other times we just need to get back to Boston so he has better job oppurtunities once this market turns around. I just want him to be happy and this job is taking such a toll on him!
