The new "New Moms" thread!

Update on my day: Vaylie just watered my bathroom floor like it was her own personal garden. I have this hand-held showery-thing and I had it running so I could wash my hair. She went into the bathroom while I was grabbing clothes in the bedroom, took it out of the tub and watered the floor. Generously.

I didn't know whether to :lmao: or .... So, I :lmao:

Kids!

Hi Ladies! Do you mind if I join you?? I remember most of you from the Moms to Be thread way back when we were all expecting our little ones :) My DD Abby is 16 months old and is into everything! OMG, what happened to my baby that could barely move?? But it's so much fun to watch them grow and learn about their world :)

Oh Becky.... Glad to hear Vaylie is ok!! :) I would have been totally flipping out...sounds like you handled it well, regardless of how your mother interpreted the situation! That would be great if you got into the branch that was closer to home!! Oh - and I know I shouldn't laugh, but the story about Vaylie watering the bathroom floor is too funny! ;) What kids will do?!?! :rotfl: So did they not let your sister book the bounce-back because they bought DVC?!? When we were down there, we called to get prices on the bounce-back deal (and we are DVC) and they would have let us book no problem. The only reason we didn't is because we added-on 100 points at AKV and got 100 "developer points" at SSR that we have to use within one year. So, we will use those at our stay next September. We called to book the bounceback AFTER we bought DVC, and they still would have let us book it???? OR is it b/c your sister just wants to stay at a DVC resort now that she is a member? If that is the case - the bounceback was offering like $87/night in a studio at DVC resorts as well with the free dining. Anywho....glad to hear that you plan on going anyway. I know what you mean, though....it would be best to all stay together at one resort!

kpm - Welcome!! :goodvibes :yay:

Just curious....did any of you apply to the Mickey Mom's Club this year? I applied last year, but wasn't chosen (although they sent me a cute folder with some nice stuff!). I applied again this year....so we will see!! popcorn::

Kelly - you can apply again this year? I didn't see that. Am I too late?

Becky - I'm glad Vaylie is feeling better. I love the story about her watering everything. Christopher has been taking everything in the bathroom and putting it in the tub for us. The rolls of toilet paper went really well in the tub that was still wet from everyone's showers.

I'm thinking that's it: she wants to stay at DVC resorts since she has the points to do it. And I don't know how that works since we're not DVC owners and neither are my inlaws...??? And I don't want to pay an arm and a leg, kwim?

It was going to be around $1700 if we did a moderate w/free dining. Now I don't know what we're doing.

I just know I'm going. Regardless. :cool2:

Becky, you could always look into renting points at whatever resort your SIL is staying at. That's our plan for going next winter. I've always wanted to stay DVC, but we can't afford to buy into it. Renting points is the next best thing fo us.

Jen

kpm76- Hi! Welcome aboard! (I'm an Obama Mama too- don't tell anyone though, because I'm trying a 7 step recovery program for political thread addicts). ;)

Jen- toilet paper. WHAT is the fascination? Vaylie likes to unroll the entire roll. Fun!

I want to apply to the Micky moms club too. Just for the free stuff. I haven't been in the last year though. Boo.

AND- my interview went really well. I'll find out on Monday if I am going to transfer or not. (I think I am, though- Shelly, the teller supervisor there, said, "Be prepared" real quick when she gave me a hug when I left). How many interviews end with a hug? :rotfl: That is the nice thing about living in a small town and working for a small company.

Yeah, I think we'll all have to sit down and discuss it when SIL and BIL get home this weekend. They fly in tomorrow night and I think we're having dinner Sunday, and we'll talk it all out. I'll mention the renting points thing, and see what we can work out.

I know it'll work out. Like I said, either way- I'm going! :smickey:

And I was just bummed. I'm sure as Disney-savvy as my SIL is she'll figure out a plan for all of us!!

DH and I have talked about DVC in a dreaming way (well, my dream, anyway- he could care less). But, I would want to wait until we are comfortable financially and certainly after we have the next kid. Plus, we want to take our kids to see so many things: the Grand Canyon, museums, Washington D.C., the oceans, the mountains- all the amazing things this country has to offer. I love WDW, don't get me wrong, but it isn't the only place I want to vacation for the next 50 years!

Now, if I could afford DVC and take those other trips too, I'd be all over it. But, that's gonna be a while. I can settle for going to WDW every 2-3 years, and exploring other places in the non-disney years. ;)

OK, so now a question... I know there is a board here about renting points, but have any of you actually done this? I was reading Mousesavers.com about the whole thing, and it sounds like it can be a great deal, but I'm wary. I'm also wondering- can SIL buy extra points for us to use and take us as guests? How would that work?

DVC is confusing. *sigh*

kpm76- Hi! Welcome aboard! (I'm an Obama Mama too- don't tell anyone though, because I'm trying a 7 step recovery program for political thread addicts). ;)

Thanks :) I am trying really, really hard to stay away from the political threads!! DH went to Denver and brought me back an Obama Mama shirt and an Obama Baby onesie for our DD....they are cute :goodvibes

DH is dying to buy DVC and now that CR was announced, he is driving me nuts...haha! I really want it too but I also want a new kitchen...lol. We have rented points a few times and will be staying at AKV in Nov with DH's grandparents who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary  We have a 2 bedroom and I think it will be great. They are built in babysitters too which means DH and I might actually get a night or two to ourselves! DH's argument is that we spend all this money to rent when we could just buy....but then there's the maintenance fees etc.....he'll probably convince me soon enough :)

Ok. If you are considering buying DVC- I just read a really, really good FAQ on Mousesavers.

DVC FAQ

I am thinking we will make out better in the long run if we just rent points or stay at a Moderate or Value when we go (which I'm fine with).

Becky - I am so glad that Vaylie is ok. Head bumps are sooo hard and scary. They are so much more tough than we think. Good Luck figuring everything out with the DVC points. I am so jealous V knows her colors. I can get Alex to bark but that's the only animal noise he knows. Nevermind words and colors!!!

kpm - I am glad that you joined us over here. What is Abby's birthday? Alexander is 16.5 months old, 4.24.

Kelly - I didn't know you could apply this year. I haven't seen anything about it.

I am watching Bringing home BAby on TLC and they have a newborn baby boy and a 16 month old little girl. I am watching it thinking, hey, I can do that!!! I have baby fever bad. The only thing keeping me sane and not dumping all my BCP's down the drain is our cruise in 31 days!!!

I am also super bored today. DH is going to the Marlins game afterwork so i think that I will get chinese food for dinner. Everything he tells me he has something after work, my first thoughts are Yippy should I get seafood or chinese?? The two foods he doesn't like. I am going to try a chinese place I haven't had before!

DMickey28 - Thanks :) Abby's birthday is 5/23 so I guess she's just shy of 16 months. We just joined Gymboree and she loves it! It's an excellent outlet for her and it's good for me too because I get a chance to interact with other moms. Enjoy your chinese food....that sounds yummy!

I have been thinking about joining Gymboree. Alexander is at the age when he would benefit from running around!! I'll have to look into it. do they ever run any specials? What did you sign up for?

I wish we had a Gymboree close. Stuff like that is a downside to living out here in the sticks. No "Mommy & Me" classes, or Gymborees...

And Vaylie is SO active. Ohmygoodness- she keeps me on my toes. And if I'm not on my toes, she's watering the bathroom floor. :headache:

DH and I had chinese at our little "lunch date" yesterday, but in my panic with vaylie's head and my frustration with my mom- I left my leftovers in the fridge at work. Now, I have to figure out something for dinner.

I am feeling so completely lazy today. I meant to clean house, but all I got done was the bathtub. I'm just feeling so relaxed with the nice weather, and V is at MIL's house, and I have the whole breezy house to myself and I don't want to do anything.

Well, I'm home from Alaska, now I need to catch up on my reading!!

All is well. Feeling well, very tired. 2 sea days, I kept sleeping and looking outside on the balcony to see the scenery. Pretty lazy trip, but it was nice.

Of course brady got a double ear infection while we were gone. Waiting for call back from pedi on which other ENT he recomends, not sure if we'll go to UMASS worcester or into Boston. We were giving him one more chance (hoping he wouldn't get another ear infection) and he did, so now he needs tubes. I'm going to ask them about his tonsils, too. That ended up being part of my others sons problem and still got infections after tubes, ended up having to have surgery again to have tonsils/adnoids out. So...if brady's are all swollem like ty's were, I may just ask to have it all done at once.

I'll have to catch up later, I'm way too tired!!!

Stacy- so glad to see that ticker (:yay:) and glad your trip went well!

We took Spencer to MNSSHP last night. It was so much fun and he did great!

Spencer is so cute! Looks like you guys had a great time!

DH does the morning routine with him since I go to work so early and when he got to work he sent me an email stating that we had a turd. LOL
Oh the things that parents get excited over. LOL

Too funny! Can you imagine ever getting an e-mail from your DH about turds before you had a baby?!?:lmao:

It seriously says "Green Twuck" ... like a 2 year old would say truck ... twuck. How is that right????

That is so wrong, how are kids supposed to learn to speak properly when the toy is saying it wrong?!? Ridiculous!

And too funny on that SAHM! It's like some people just don't have a filter!

Don't worry about the get-together, you can hang out here with us until you are ready! Since I work full-time away from home, I just haven't had the time to even think about something like that, but I would kind of like to when we move to our new house next month.

Question for you ladies....are you getting the flu shot? Are your LO's getting the flu shot?

We will all be getting the flu shot. Alex isn't in daycare right now, but he plays with other kids frequently, and DH works in a restaurant around tons of germs, and I just hate getting the flu, especially after my experiences this year after not getting it last year.

So did I tell you girls...I'm a bad mommy! :guilty: Last week, my son took a flying leap out of the crib!
I have an adrenaline monkey I think. :rotfl2:

Love the new pics of Mo - he's a cutie! And you're not a bad mommy - like you said you just have an adrenaline monkey! :rotfl: Alex has tried jumping out of his crib a couple of times, but he is always noisy when he does it so I have managed to catch him so far.

Hi Ladies! Do you mind if I join you?? I remember most of you from the Moms to Be thread way back when we were all expecting our little ones :) My DD Abby is 16 months old and is into everything! Welcome! I remember you from back in the day! :goodvibes

Michelle - glad to hear that Ike didn't do any damage by you, and that you're all feeling better. I had a flu like that twice this year and the second time I seriously felt like I was going to die. And I know what you mean about the single moms - I just can't imagine how they do it! It's hard enough to be a SAHM or working away from home mom with a spouse, but when you're alone you have to do it all!

Becky - sorry to hear about all the drama with your SIL and going to WDW next year, but at least you are going! And too funny about Vaylie watering your bathroom floor (since I didn't have to clean it up)! :rotfl2:

I rented points when we stayed at BCV back in 2005 through these boards. It worked out really well for us. I think we gave the woman 1/2 the money when she made the reservation and the other half right before we left. She sent us the confirmation letter and everything so we could see the room in our names. I don't know if you SIL could buy extra, but I know she can bring guests, so that might work out well too. I wish we could afford DVC!

I'll definately be getting the flu shot this year. Well probably. I pass out when I get shots and stuff. But I keep getting sick. Since June I've had strep throat, 2 colds, and just this week I've ran a fever around 102-103 and I don't know why. I have no immune system.

denise- love the new pics of mo! he's adorable. all the babies on this thread are.

ellery is saying words, or trying to! She says Mama, Dada, Nana, Papa, BaBa, and Hi! (with the hi she also waves)

oh and could you guys do me a favor? One of my clothing designs is in a contest on a blog, http://scstreetteam.blogspot.com if you could vote for me that would be great. I'm #12 (the overalls).

Well I gotta go get some foodie.
