Izzy is doing great -- she started getting back to normal Sunday afternoon - she was using her arm again and today she seemed like her old self!! Thank God!! That could have been much worse.

Holly -- Amanda is getting SO big -- and is very cute!! Did the fireworks scare her at all? We wanted to take Izzy but were afraid the loud noise would scare her -- Amanda liked the fireworks though?

First, I'm so glad she's doing better!! That's such good news! :)

Secondly, Nope! Amanda Joy didn't seem to be afraid of the fireworks, at all! At first, she seemed very amazed by them, and eventually, she wasn't even paying attention to them! lol We were pretty close to them too!

Question of the Day: Did you cry when your child(ren) were born... (and crying is defined as either bursting into tears or just one little soap opera tear running down your cheek) as soon as they came out?

Oh yes! I cried with all three girls... nothing major though (no bawling), just tears of happiness, for all three births were so emotional and beautiful to me! Kind of overwhelming! :lovestruc

(by the way - crying is not defined in this insance as crying days later when you were functioning on no sleep and *they* would not stop crying...because we ALL cried then!!)

I cried - but it was more the cry where your eyes fill with tears and a couple of them kind of roll down your checks. I was just so happy she was here and I could finally hold her and the 2 1/2 hours of pushing had left me exhausted so it was just nice to be done with that.

Nope no crying for me either. Dh laughed since I had a c-section I was all into what was going on in the room and asking lots of questions about stuff. DH asked if I ever let the technical mind of mine rest. LOL

I asked to see the placentas from the twins! Very cool stuff! Course right before they took Sam out I asked of they had cut me yet! My husband was like "umm do you hear that sucking noise? They are sucking the fluid and getting ready to take a baby out!'

Yes I did! I heard his cry and that was it for me! :cloud9:

Holly~~~Amanda Joy is just TOO precious!

Hey guys- wow, i miss a few days and it is like 6 pages I have to catch up on! lol

hopefully Will doesn't get the memo on everyone falling. i usually buckle him in the changing table if i even turn away for a second- i am super paranoid. i know he is going to fall at some point though.

QUESTIONS- if he had been a girl- I would have gone with Samantha Jane probably. Samantha for sure. I like Sammy/Sammie. I know, I have Sammy and Will on the brain.....day of our lives much? :lmao:

QUESTIONS- did i cry? yes and i usually don't. i am the non cry type, i don't like people to see me cry either, especially DH. don't know what it is, i feel i have to be strong and not cry for some reason. but i did- after TTC for so long and going through IVF, i was thrilled my baby was finally here. I was in a ton of pain though and didn't get to enjoy holding him for long due to my own complications (hemmoraging/bleeding out).

Nicole- OMG, how scary with Izzy, i am so GLAD she is ok, your heart must have stopped when that happened. poor little thing. what a trooper though. Glad she is doing better.

Tasha- glad the jaundice is better for little Cohen- how is he?

Bethany- yeah for the makeover- we need pics!

Nic/Beck- ouch on the dentist, i need to go, but now you guys have me scared of my teeth cleaning! lol

Denise- hope the house is okay- how scary is that. glad everyone is safe and secure.

Mel- lol at brainwashing Colin with Disney. i can't wait to get started on it- of course his room is done in Peter Pan......Peter Pan/hook and tink mural on the wall. Pirate ships and framed Peter Pan lithos, including some really old 70s ones I found at Cyd Chauegas when i worked at MGM 12 years ago. Yes, i had been saving all this peter pan stuff for 12 years now for a nursery! :confused3 :rotfl: I can't wait to start watching disney movies with him. before our trip, i will be sure he knows who every character is! (we have a year and a half before that!)

Ash- hope you and Ellery are having a blast at the beach- we go in two weeks- post pics!

Stacy- hope the foot is better. how do you get the Mickey moms logo- do you just visit the site- did you submit an application to be one? I just read the thread about the whole moms panel (yeah, i am about a year late!) :rotfl: but it sounds very interesting.

Holly- Amanda Joy looks adorable in her 4th outfit!

While we are talking about whether you cried or not- i was curious- who all had a c-section and who delivered ******lly? I am just curious on the stats.

and- how was your labor, delivery and post partum experience?

I delivered ******lly. i was prepared for anything though. i am very open and flexible. I almost expected to have a c-section, since it seems so many people do these days. so when i delivered ******lly, i was like, wow, am i really going to push this baby out? :rotfl:  I was induced- pitocin at 5am, water was broken at 9am. epi at 10am. I was dilating nicely, but slowly. after the water, the pain was bad. the epi was so great. by 3pm, the epi was wearing off and the pain was back. i was about a 6cm or so. the doc said it would be a while before i hit 10, so they upped/redid my epi. she came back at 4pm and i was a full 10, totally unexpected. so i just had a new epi and was TOTALLY NUMB. i couldn't feel a thing- i was like how do i push when i can't feel? they had to tell me when contractions were, i didn't even know. i pushed for an hour and 20 minutes, but it didn't feel that long. it went fast. then i felt a 'pop' and his head was out, then i heard/felt a snip, snip, snip and he was all out. It was great and all a blur really. he was born at 6;17pm.

so i labored from 5am- and delivered at 6pm or so- just over 12 hours- not too bad. labor and delivery were not bad at all for me, but since i was overly numb, i really didn't experience the true pain of delivery.

the after birth was AWFUL........no one told me that the massaging of the uterus back down was going to hurt so bad. the epi had worn off when they were sewing me up too. and the massaging was killing me- then i started bleeding like crazy after the placenta. Will had dragged his arm and apparently lacerated me internally. they couldn't find where. the OB was in there alone- screaming for someone to help and no one was coming. her attitude freaked me out! Dh said it was like a horror movie there was so much blood pouring out and on the floor. after more than 20-30 minutes, they finally found the bleed and sewed it up. i was dying by now- between the uterus shrinking and all the blood loss, i was just a wreck- i was nauseous, out of it and felt like i was dying. they gave me all sorts of drugs for the blood loss, but i still couldn't have water or ice. i didn't get to enjoy the family coming in or anything since it was like an emergency situation. my family finally left since it was getting late (and my sister had her kids with her). luckily my MIL stayed, who i love and helped us get settled in the other room. i remember the wheelchair ride to the other room was miserable too- i had a bin in my lap for puking and still felt like dying. So from 6:30pm to about midnight, was the worst hours of pain of my life......who knew after delivery could be so bad? lol......

so any other interesting birth stories? i am bored and need a good read:yay:

Hi Syrreal! Glad to see you back :)

For the question of the day - I did cry a bit when Christopher was born. Not so much when I first saw him, as when they took him over to the warmer to get him all dried off and stuff. I couldn't see him, and I couldn't really move, so I made DH go with him so he wouldn't be without Mommy or Daddy.

As for birth stories, mine was pretty boring. I ended up with a planned c-section. They never diagnosed me with gestational diabetes, but every time they did one of the 3 hour glucose tolerances, I just barely made it into the normal range. The last few ultrasounds showed Christopher to be about 9.5-10lbs, so they didn't want me to deliver him ******lly. Go figure the u/s was off by a bit (he was 8lbs 7 oz)

Ugh. We're leaving for Fresno tomorrow and DH and I are both sick. DH has had it for a few days, and I've been trying to avoid getting it, but last night I started getting the tickle in the back of my throat, and this morning I'm all scratchy. YUCK!! Owen is sure to get it now. Why does this happen right before we travel??

As for birth stories, I gave the summary earlier, but here's the details:

I'd been having contractions off and on for days, so I wasn't too surprised when they started up again while we were at our friends' house watching the Survivor finale. We got home, and the contractions were too strong for me to go to bed, but since that had happened twice before with no progress made, DH went to bed and said to wake him up if they got stronger or closer together. At 11:00pm, they were 16m apart, at 11:45 they were 12m apart, and then from 12:15-12:45 they went from 8 min apart to 4 min apart and at 12:45am all of a sudden it switched to back labor and I started throwing up. That's what woke up DH, and we called the hospital and packed up the car and headed over. By the time we got there, the contractions were 3 min apart, and I was throwing up every 2-3 contractions.

They got us checked in, and I was 3.5cm dialated. They gave me a narcotic right away to hold me over until the epidural, and that helped a little, but not much. When they gave me the epi, it worked for about 30 min, and then I started throwing up again. They tried increasing the dose, but it would only work for 30-40 min, and then the back labor would over power it and I'd be throwing up and in agony again. Finally they said they couldn't increase it anymore, and I'd just have to cope. (okay, not quite like that, but that's how I heard it... ;) )

I was taking forever to dialate, so they gave me some pitocin, which of course made the back labor even worse, but definitely got things moving. I suddenly went from 5cm to 10cm in about an hour.

By that point I was in horrific pain, so I really don't remember the whole pushing part. I remember throwing up through it all, and they tried to get me into a position that might ease the back pain, and I just focused on the voice of the nurse and pushed when she told me to.

Then all of a sudden there was a huge rush of people in the room, and someone was explaining that his heart rate dropped and they needed to get him out NOW. I'd pushed him down far enough that they could get him out with the forceps, so they had me push a couple more times and he was out and on my chest and I wasn't in pain anymore! The epidural worked perfectly once they got him out!!

Of course in the emergency forceps delivery, I ended up with a 3rd degree tear and all kinds of other lovely injuries 'down there'. It took them 45 min. to stitch me back up again, and I was told not to try and look at it until I was totally healed! They also told me that I had enough muscle injury that I should plan on a slower recovery - more like from a c-section. It was almost 2 months before I could walk or go to the bathroom without pain.

Bethany, sorry to hear yu are sick...hopefully Owen in getting some antibodies from you BFing?! Maybe he will be lucky!!

So, I had Mo's car seat checked out at the Sheriff's office last week and they were VERY happy to see us there and with the purchase we made....the Britax Diplomat. He told me to keep Mo rear facing as long as possible but as his assistant read the seat she saw it said use rear facing with infants under 20 pounds. Mo IS 20 pounds. So he told me to turn him around. BUT....the seat also says to use rear facing with children from 5-35 pounds....THAT'S why I purchased it because I knew Mo was nearly 20 pounds. So why does it say under 20 but also 35??!! :confused3 :scared: I'm keeping Mo rear facing til his little feet can't move comfortably anymore.

Our next purchase is the Britax Regent with the 5 point harness system. It fits children up to 80 pounds. Anyone know how well that fits into a Chevy Cobalt. Sometimes hubby and I sit in the back seat with Mo, but I think with the Regent that won't be possible. Someone left these two videos on a website that I visit and it BROKE my heart! :sad1: Because of them, my little Mo has a better chance!

Hey Ladies!

Well, I'm happy to report that Colin is mostly back to normal -- there's still the occasional crank when he moves his leg the wrong way, but he's cruising and standing and crawling like before. We never did hear from the doctor yesterday about the hip xrays, so I'm assuming he's fine.

QOTD: I cried once he was out, and when I called my mom to tell her my water broke. I don't think it was big huge sobs, but there was crying.

Birth Story...

So, I'd been feeling kind of "off" on the Sunday morning, but DH wanted to get his hair cut so we went out and he did that while I went and got some magazines for the hospital. Then, he needed something at Home Depot. I forget what. So, we go in and all of a sudden, I feel a bit like I've peed my pants. So, I go to the bathroom, come back and find him by the clearance section and am like "Ummm....we need to go, now. I think my water broke." Yes, at Home Depot. But, we had been looking at the CUTEST Bambi wallpaper border on clearance. We got out to the car and I was like "no...you HAVE to go back in and get that wallpaper!!" (It was like a $1 a roll -- the Scot in me couldn't pass that up!!) I called my mom and she said she'd leave soon (she's an hour away).

We came home, I had a shower and we headed over to the hospital. I sat in triage on the OB floor from about 12 pm to 5 pm, when we finally got a room. They started pitocin at 8, gave me some drugs at 8:30, epi at 9:30. I slept from 5 cm to 10 cm, woke up at 1:30 am and told my mom I felt some pressure. The nurse came in and checked to find 10 cm. Started pushing about 2 and Colin was out by 2:33. He came really fast at the end, so I had substantial tearing, but otherwise was good. Didn't get much sleep, SIL and MIL showed up at 6:30 that morning (ugh!).

Today is our holiday up here, so DH is home from work, which is nice. We started painting my scrapbook room this morning -- it's a lovely shade of pink! Ever since Colin came, I've been more "ultra-girly" than I've ever been in my whole life! Between DH, Colin, the dog and the cat, I'm the only girl in the house, so I feel like I have to overcompensate!! :rotfl:

Denise -- up here, the RFing limits are 30 inches, 22 pounds AND 1 year old. The year old limit is because the bones need time to develop further to help protect them. We'll have to turn Colin a few days before his 1st birthday since our carseats won't fit in DH's Jeep RFing and he's doing daycare drop off when I start back at work next Monday (yuck...that's so soon!!)

I ended up having a scheduled c-section. They never diagnosed me with gestationtal diabetes either but I had failed my 1 hour but passed my 3 hour with flying colors so who knows. When I went for my 3 weeks togo appointment my dr said he was already measuring 8.5lbs so we needed to discuss the c-section. I had no problem with it so we scheduled it for the monday before my due date.

DH and I went in about 9am for my scheduled 11:30 delivery and ended up delivering about 12:35 since there was an emergency that came in before me so they were behind. I didn't really have any problems with it. The whole recovery I was more uncomfortable then in pain. We laughed since everytime the nurses came in they asked me to tell them my pain level from 1-10 with 10 being the worst pain I had ever felt. Well I can imagine a whole lot of pain so I kept saying 3-4 and they really liked that answer so they said they wanted to keep it that way. I stayed in the hospital until Friday since Noah had some jaundice and I did get a little sick afterwards but that was from not eating right there since the food was bad but once DH went to the store for some real food for me I was good. LOL

I came home and the doc said I could do the stairs and everything just to not lift too much and no driving. I only took the pain pills until the next Wednesday and then only right before bed. He had said I could stop when I thought I didn't need them anymore. I went to my 2 week appointment and all was good so I could drive and carry Noah as needed.

The only part that was really bad for me was taking the tape off the day after. They had put a pressure bandage on and when I took my shower the nurse came in to help get it off and the sticky part tore some of my skin. That truthfully was more painful then the surgery.

Denise- I have the Britax Marathon. it was expensive- like $289 i think, but my roomie said that is the best car seat out there (she is some crazy car seat expert/fanatic! lol). this one will work for rear facing, but also goes up to 80lbs, so i wno't have to buy another seat, this one will take us through until he is old enough for the kid booster. so instead of buying two, i just bought the one and paid more upfront. i love it.

Will is over 22 lbs- he was like 21 something at his 6 month appt, so i know he is a little more now. He is rear facing, but i drive a dodge diesel truck and we can't put him in the middle or else it completely blocks my view out the window. so he is on the side and the passenger front seat can't lean back at all. so it isn't ideal. i am probably going to turn it to forward facing next weekend before we drive to San antonio and the beach house in south tx. He is big enough now i think for it to be okay. plus his little feet are pretty tight in there with it rear facing- they are up on the back seat almost since he is tall too. so i think it is time. my doc didn't say weight for rear facing, but said until he was 1yo. well, he is as big as a 1yo, so i am turning it. i feel safe since he is so big anyhow and we are in a huge raised dodge truck----it's a pretty safe truck (which is why DH has me drive it instead of the mustang)- anyone that hits us will be in more trouble than we will. Will literally can't fit rear facing for any longer without putting his feet like up above his shoulders on the back seat. he is just too long.

i hear hte britax ones are great though, so you made a great choice!

While we are talking about whether you cried or not- i was curious- who all had a c-section and who delivered ******lly? I am just curious on the stats.

and- how was your labor, delivery and post partum experience?

I have been lucky/blessed! All 3 of my deliveries were fairly easy, and Amanda Joy didn't disappoint me either! With my oldest daughter, the day I turned 37 weeks, my water broke at 7am! They checked me into the hospital, but put me on Pitocin, for I wasn't contracting. Hannah was born at 7:14 that evening, after 30 minutes of pushing.

Second daughter was a planned induction because I was miserable, so Pitocin once again. Went in at 7am, she was born at 2:15pm after 15 minutes of pushing!

Amanda Joy wasn't induced, but I had taken the fateful Castor Oil to put me into labor.. it worked like a charm, but made a mess! Ewww! lol Anyway, the night before, I had contractions all through the night, but they weren't regular. Had a bloody show around 5am, so I called the doc. She wasn't worried, so I held out a bit longer. Actually felt pretty good then. Took the girls to school, came home and did some housework/laundry. Contractions started back up around 11:30, but were 10 minutes apart, then 5, then 7, all over the place. Doc told me not to come in, that I was having Braxton Hicks! Well I knew he was wrong!! Anyway, the girls were getting out early that day, so DH went to pick them up. By the time he got back home at 1:30, my contractions were every 5 minutes apart, and I couldn't move or talk during them. We decided to go to the hospital! They admitted me at 3pm, but only because I had a cool nurse (apparently I was only 3cm dililated, and you have to be 4). At 6pm, I was fully dilated, and Amanda Joy was born at 6:15.. and yes, I had an epidural (all three times!).

Denise- I have the Britax Marathon. it was expensive- like $289 i think, but my roomie said that is the best car seat out there (she is some crazy car seat expert/fanatic! lol). this one will work for rear facing, but also goes up to 80lbs, so i wno't have to buy another seat, this one will take us through until he is old enough for the kid booster. so instead of buying two, i just bought the one and paid more upfront. i love it.

We also have the Britax Marathon, and I LOVE this seat! It was super easy to install, and Amanda Joy likes it much better than her infant carrier. Our state law here, says that an infant has to be rear facing until BOTH 1 year and 20 pounds.. so if they hit that year mark, but weigh less than 20, they still need to be rear facing.

Stacy- hope the foot is better. how do you get the Mickey moms logo- do you just visit the site- did you submit an application to be one? I just read the thread about the whole moms panel (yeah, i am about a year late!) :rotfl: but it sounds very interesting.

When they were accepting applications, I sent one in for the panel. They started the Mickey Moms club (we were able to vote to choose the name). Another diser had the logo and she made one for me. We actually got a package in the mail a couple of months ago w/that logo and a few gifts. Magnet for the car, mouse pad, stickers, 2 tink pins.

I just turned Alexander around last week. He is inching up to 30lbs, if not there yet. His Marathon rearfaces to 33lbs. He has been soooo hot lately and I can't get the A/C to cool him down enough rearfacing and he was coming out of the car dripping in sweat. Since the A/C in cars doesn't really get going until you get moving it's not as though I can start the car 20 minutes ahead of time to get it cool enough. Nevermind I can't afford that with gas prices!!!

He is so much happier now that he can stay comfortable in the car. Seriously this past weekend we got in the car that was parked at Target/BRU for MAYBE 2 hours and the thermo in the car said it was 110!!

My birth story:

I was due on 4/20 and he was born on 4/24, Tuesday AM. I was having period like cramps for a few nights before hand but nothing during the day. Dh and I went out to dinner the night before at a local place up the street. I had mussels and came home, posted a few pics of my belly and went to bed. I woke up at around 2AM thinking I was hungry so I went out and ate some Kashi and went back to bed. I woke up shortly later with intense back pain and had to get up. It seemed to pass so I laid back down only to get the back pain again. I got up and walked around and felt fine, it was just when I laid down. I think I went back to sleep until a huge one woke me again .... They were about 6 minutes apart around 5am I think.

We left for the hospital sometime around 6:45 - 7:00 ish I think. By the time we got there my contractions were coming 4 minutes apart. Very painful!! I was put in a patient waiting room because they were so busy. Surprisingly I saw my doctor there and was so excited he was the one doing deliveries that day!!! They put me in triage around 7:30AM and I was checked. I was at 4CM. On that check they think my water broke but were not sure. Well within 15 minutes I couldn't handle the contractions anymore. I can't describe the pain, only that it was worse than I could have even imagined. They rushed me through admission and put me in a room and rushed my blood work and got the Epi guy (I am too tired to spell the right word!) to me by 8:30AM. I got the EPI and my doctor came in to check me and I was 8 CM. Yes, I went from 4 to 8 in less than 45 minutes. Fun huh? Get's better. By 10:00AM I was ready to start pushing. Shortly there after the EPI kind of wore off. It's hard to descirbe. I lost the pushing sensation, was still numb in the legs but had immense pain in my abdomen and back. They had to get the EPI guy back in there and he topped off my dose and gave me some new meds as well. By 11:00 AM I was pushing again. My doctor came in to check him and he found ALexander FLIPPED on his back facing sunny side up. I pushed on my sides and all fours for a little while to try and get him to turn but he wasn't having any of that and his heart rate was starting to sky rocket, in the 180's. His head was not going to fit through and even though it appeared that he was making progress and slipping up it was his head swelling up through the pelvis. The doctor decided that we should do a section and get him out ....

I was so out of it and scared ... I had the section and my doctor had to put all his weight into dislodging Alex from my pelvis as well from under my ribs. He was in there tight. The doctor said that my pelvis is actually a touch narrow and no way DS would have fit through there.

Check out the conehead ...

Hi ladies! I have to go back and read all of your birth stories!! I have only had a chance to read a few.

Mine....my water broke at 2am. I got up to use the bathroom and POP...omigod it was the loudest sound ever. DH heard it from the bed! My water GUSHED out....I actually had to flush the toilet! (TMI?!) I went to the hospital right away, contractions about 3 min apart. Got there...was only 1cm. Labored 17 hours with Brady still kicking me in the ribs and not descending. I had got my epi at around noon, ~10 hours into it. At 8:30pm that night, it was decided to do a c-section since I had developed a fever and they were worried that Brady had one too. They had Brady in the NICU for the first 3 nights b/c he had a low-grade fever at birth, but was fine, and ended up back in the nursery for our last night there.

QOTD: No, I didn't cry when he was born. Only because I thought I was dying on the operating table! My anesthesia took WAY too well, and I was numb from the neck down. I couldn't feel myself breathing, and was concentrating on that beep...beep...beep of the heart monitor. I convinced myself that as long as that beeped, I was alive. :rotfl: DH was a MESS...crying the whole time. I cried a lot after the fact when I was in the recovery room (when I knew I was going to make it!). ;)

Everyone's birth stories are so interesting! Isn't it amazing what our bodies go through to get these babies into our arms?!

Okay, (not so brief) vent, then back to packing.
I know DH isn't feeling well, but I'm not feeling great either, and yet he's spent most of the day playing his computer game (Lord of the Rings Online) while I've been racing around packing AND taking care of Owen. Usually I honestly don't mind the time he spends playing LOTRO, because I know it's his thing to unwind and relax and have fun, just like scrapbooking, reading, and hanging out in coffee shops with friends are my things. He makes time for me to have my fun time, and I make time for him to do his LOTRO.

Except we leave for Fresno tomorrow, and I REALLY want to be ready to walk right out the door the minute I finish nursing Owen before his AM nap time. I want the car loaded up, and I want to just nurse Owen, strap him in his car seat, and hit the road right when he's ready to go to sleep. That way he'll hopefully nap for 2 hours in the car, and we'll be hitting Los Banos just about then to stop for lunch. It would be perfect...

So I'm scrambling to pack not only my stuff, but also stuff for Owen and snacks/CD's for in the car. Plus I'm taking care of Owen, doing the dishes, taking out the trash, folding the laundry, etc. etc. all with this scratchy throat and general feeling of yuck. Oh, and did I mention that I'm bringing main dish to our weekly potluck with our neighborhood Bible study tonight? AUGH! :headache:

And DH just keeps on playing LOTRO, and he hasn't packed yet, and he's grumpy about the trip now that he knows we're going down to help with the filming and not just hanging out to play games, and he's not feeling well, and I know that and I feel bad because I don't drive and he'll be doing all the driving tomorrow, but STILL!!! A little help would be nice, here, but I hate to nag...I vowed to myself when we got married that I wouldn't be a nag...

Okay, I feel better. Vent over, and back to packing! :) Thanks for listening! :goodvibes

 Bethany - I know how that feels. When normally you don't mind but you start to get frazzled and you feel yucky and you just want them to step completely out of character and step up and at least make the motion to help you out. Every other day it wouldn't matter but today it does ... I hope that you are able to get a good night's rest and feel better tomorrow.

I forgot in my birth story that I developed a fever as well which was part of the c-section decision. I totally forgot that. I finally was able to get rid of it by later that night.

Everyone that had a c-section ... what was your recovery like? After I had the section and they stitched me up they rolled me to a recovery curtain area. I was freezing and shaking so bad. Part nerves I think and part the drugs. They piled me with blankets and turned the lights down and talked very calmly to me to try and get me to focus and stop shaking. I could not. Dh was up in the nursery with DS, I saw DS after they wrapped him up when he was born around 1:45pm and then they didn't bring him into me until close to 7pm. DH came down to see me once in recovery while my mom stayed watching DS and then my mom came down to stay with me in recovery. It was pretty scary ... I couldn't stop shaking. Did that happen to anyone else?
