someone mentioned a newsletter, but i can't find a place on the moms site to sign up for it? do you have any idea? thanks for sharing!

Oooh, I wanna know too! I had never heard of the club until I saw Stacy's sig

great birth stories too guys!

did anyone else feel deathly afraid of them choking when giving them puffs or anything? He is 8 months and does wagon wheels fine and will gnaw down a biter biscuit, but those little puffs, he just doesn't know to chew, he tries to swallow it right away and chokes. it doesn't have time to disintegrate since he swallows it so fast. it drives me mad and i am afraid to give them to him. any tips? I know others are already to cheerios, so i feel behind! lol he doesn't get the whole 'chewing' thing quite yet and still has NO teeth even looking like they are appearing at all.

Those puffs disappear pretty quick, but I was worried in the beginning too. Vaylie had no teeth until she was 8 1/2 months old. But, she loved the puffs and I tried them out- they do dissolve quickly. And I think even if he swallowed them without chewing, they will dissolve in his throat with spit or once he takes a sip of something.

But, if you don't think he's ready, then let him eat other finger foods for a while yet so he can get that chewing thing down a little better. Small bits of banana are great.

My child thinks she needs to eat the whole thing at once. I made the mistake once of letting her try to hold the banana and take bites off of it. NOPE. She took the biggest bite her little mouth could manage and proceeded to choke. :faint: I freaked. Luckily, I had enough wits about me to put my finger in her mouth and sweep everything out. (Good thing I took CPR at some point). She was fine after that. But, from now on, I will continue cutting her bananas into little bite size pieces. (WHich she will still wad into her mouth all at once). :headache:

Hi Guys.

Bethany -- I LOVE the tip about using 2 spoons - I am going to try that. We had a battle royal last night fighting for spoon control (and what a friggin mess that made all over her and the highchair and me) -- so 2 spoons - great idea!

Michelle -- we get a little nervous with the choking thing -- we have had to grab Izzy twice and tip her upside down patting her back when it looked like something got stuck. We have not tried the wagon wheels yet cause I was afraid they were too big. Maybe hold off on those a little longer? We have been giving her ots of other finger foods -- I cut up canned carrots and beans (the no sodium canned kind) and she loves those. Also have done bread and pizza crust. The other night we went to dinner and I gave Izzy a microscopic piece of my rib eye steak and she LOVED that. We also will give her a french fry to gnaw on when we go out!

Becky -- I noticed Ms. V is now princess coca-cola -- what is the story behind that? I'll bet its funny.

So - my little one has recently learned backwards crawling -- SO funny and cute to watch. We are hoping that it means that forward crawling is not too far away. I am going to BRU this weekend to look into some gates/play yard fences type of things -- I can't believe its time to start baby proofing the house already -- that came fast. We need to lower her crib this weekend as well.

We are having a problem with our crib -- we bought the Positano crib -- top of the line crib - from BRU - but its made by Jardine and its on the recall list. We bought it as part of a set with the dresser and changing table as well. I have researched the Jardine recall and apparently some of the lower end cribs have expereinced the baby pulling on the slats so hard they break them. This has happened 47 times and in 2 instances the baby got hurt (abrasions). There have been no deaths or serious injuries. Jardine has recalled all its cribs - even the high end ones where the slats are pretty strong. When we found out about the recall my DH pulled on the slats himself trying to see if he could break them and he couldn't -- so we feel pretty ok that Izzy is not going to be able to break them either -- but I am so on the fence about the recall. Jardine is saying stop using hte crib immediately -- buy a replacement immediately and they will reimburse you the amount of the replacement up to the value of the old crib. It seems a little unnecessary to me to replace her crib but then there is that nagging "what if" feeling.

Thoughts??

Question of the day/long weekend: How did you tell your DH that you were pregnant?

QOTD to return again on Monday. Enjoy the long weekend girls.

Happy 4th!

Ok, I just remembered what we did in the beginning w/the puffs, b/c DS didn't have teeth yet either. We had 2 methods, breaking the puffs in half, which was difficult, or I would hold one of the ends of the star puff between two of my fingers and let DS suck on it until he got it and stopped trying to swallow them whole w/o chewing or sucking. After doing that a few times, he started getting it on his own.

Well, we made it out of the house exactly as I'd planned! Woo hoo! :cool1: Of course I didn't sleep well. I kept waking up and remembering something I'd forgotten to pack, and jumping up to go get it. We ended up with one bag with a funny mix of stuff - cell phone charger, bottle brush, nasal aspirator (aka "Booger Bulb" or "Snot Sucker" in our house), a pair of flip flops, a pack of gum, a water bottle, my toothbrush, a couple swim diapers, a CF card for my camera.... it's pretty hysterical!

QOTD: I have 2 spoons out when I feed Owen now. He gets one, and I get the other. If he grabs the spoon I have, then I take his spoon and we swap for a bit. Sometimes he wants to put both spoons in his mouth at the same time, but usually we can take turns.

I always have a bag just like that! Too funny! Glad you're having a good time on your trip! I also do the 2 spoon thing with Alex, and it works really well. Once in a while I would even have to get a 3rd spoon b/c he insisted on holding 2, even if he wasn't trying to eat with them. :confused3

My child thinks she needs to eat the whole thing at once. I made the mistake once of letting her try to hold the banana and take bites off of it. NOPE. Vaylie sounds more and more like the female version of Alex. He did the same thing with a whole banana, and frequently stuffs so much food in his mouth that he looks like a hamster! :rotfl:

Well, Jardine has to tell you to stop using the crib to avoid lawsuits for negligence. But since your DH couldn't break the slats, I might not feel as panicked as I would otherwise. I agree that it is probably not necessary to replace the crib, but I totally understand how you feel. It is nice of Jardine to offer to reimburse you though if you decide to purchase a new crib, so you might want to take them up on it, though the process would probably be kind of a hassle and time consuming, but if you really doubt your baby's safety, it would obviously be worth it.

Question of the day/long weekend: How did you tell your DH that you were pregnant?

I woke up on a Saturday about 2 days before AF was due and thought, I feel kind of weird today, maybe I'll take a pg test (DH works weekends). It was positive, so I ran to Target for a digital test to confirm and to BRU and bought a onesies with a baby chick on it, which is DH's nick-name for me in Spanish - Pollito. After the digital came back positive too, I wrapped up the onesies and the pg test in a little box with baby wrapping paper left from a shower gift, and gave it to DH when he got home.

I called him at work before he left, and told him I had a surprise for him. He asked what it was, but I refused to tell him b/c I wanted to do it in person. When he got home and I gave him the little box, he looked at it and said, "What's this? My shoes won't fit in here?" We had just ordered him a new pair of work shoes online, and he thought the surprise was the shoes. Men! You would think the baby wrapping paper would tip him off, but no. Plus the box was barely big enough to hold socks, much less shoes. So he opened the box and took out the onesie and the pg test and again asked, "What's this?" :headache: I said, "It's a pregnancy test," and he said, "Well what does it mean?" "It means I'm pregant!" We had only been ttc for one month, so it was kind of a surprise that it happened so quickly, especially b/c I had traveled for work when I thought we should have bd'd, but I guess the day before was good enough!

So there was no big surprise about being pregnant since we did IVF, but our finding out went a little like this:

I did my first preg teston Saturday 6 days after our embie transfer...

Me: Is that a line? (Hyperventilating)

DH: I dunno! (runs to a lamp)

DH: I think its a line!!!

Me: Are you sure?!!???

We both about pee our pants!

I tested a couple more times and got positives and then 4 days later...

Me: Look honey..the pregnant line is darker than the control line....I bet both embies took!!!!

DH: Holy ****!!!!!!!!

Then we found out for sure at about 7 weeks that both embies took and we were having twins!!:lovestruc :lovestruc

Okay, all you Moms with babies in the 6-9 month range...what is your daily schedule like? I want t tweak the twins schedule but haven't come up with a great idea yet that really allows for getting out like I want to.

Right now it looks like this:

7am-bottle
830am -solid meal
1030am-bottle...after this bottle is usually when we go out
145-bottle, down for nap in cribs at 200
430- solid meal
530-bottle
830-900-bottle/bed

I don't usually sweat the morning nap because they will sleep in the car or stroller if we go out or if we are home for the day they have a morning nap in the living room or the crib.

I would like to maybe add a thrid meal and drop a bottle too in the next couple of weeks if I can tweak the schedule and make it work. I am going to try to keep bedtime at like 830.

Thanks for your help!

We just started moving bottles further apart from on another and dropping which ever on didn't work anymore. I think each time we dropped a bottle it was usually a weekend when we were out running around and kind of when "oh crap! We forgot about your x:xx o'clock bottle...oh well!". Can you try dropping the 10:30 bottle and adding lunch in?

We're in the process of dropping the midday bottle -- trying to transition to whole milk from the sippy for that one. We've got the whole milk part for that one, but he doesn't drink much at lunch and then I have to pour it intil a bottle a finish it before nap. It's not going as well as I had hoped, but I suspect once he starts daycare on Monday, he won't really have a choice.

Hi Guys.

Question of the day/long weekend: How did you tell your DH that you were pregnant?

Well, I hadn't been feeling quite right for a couple of days, and DH just didn't believe me that I thought I was pregnant. I got up on the Saturday morning, and went into our ensuite and took the test. There was no way to avoid him knowing that I had taken the test. And there was no way to avoiding him seeing my happy tears!!

To tell my parents, we had a friend from the DIS that lives near us pick up Mickey ears on her trip to WDW that were embroidered with "Nana" and "Papa" and gave them to them. My mom got it right away but my dear, sweet, clueless dad didn't really understand until mom clued him in! I love my dad!

DH's mom had a dream about a week before that his sister and me would both be pregnant at the same time, and that we'd both have boys. Well, the Thursday night, his sister had come over with our niece wearing a "Big Sister" tshirt. So, we show up at DH's parents' house on the Saturday morning and are like "Remember your dream about both of us being pregnant? It's true!!". Unfortunately, SIL lost the baby really early on, so it didn't come true quite like it was supposed to.

Question of the day/long weekend: How did you tell your DH that you were pregnant?

This last time, we weren't trying to get pregnant. We had actually given up since I had 3 miscarriages about 2 years prior. :( I just hadn't been feeling 'right', and thought.. "I wonder". DH was out of town when I took the test, and I hadn't really figured out how to tell him yet. One evening, I was up at the girls' school, returning DD's lacrosse uniform, and chatting w/her coach, when DH called on my cell. GUess he could tell something was going on, for he asked, "What's wrong?" I said, "Oh nothing's wrong, but we need to talk when you get home." There was silence, then, "You're pregnant, aren't you?" LOL Very intuitive that one! lol

Thank was sort of what I was thinking....plus the fact that despite sleeping all night Zoe acts like a little beast about her first bottle. I was kind of leaning towards this a schedule..

7am-solids
8am bottle
1100-solids
1200-bottle-possible down for a crib nap if we go out after the 8am bottle
400 bottle
600- solids
830-bottle/bed

My cousin was told that she would have a 10 lb baby by ultrasound and then hers was like 8 lbs or something. I didn't have an ultrasound late in the pregnancy with Ellery but I wonder what it would have said about her weight considering she was almost 10 lbs. It probably would have saved me that 14 hours of labor.

Anyway we're having a good time at the beach. I don't want to go home on Saturday. Here are a few pics.

Cute pictures Ash - it looks like you're all having a great time!

Ok, I finally found Alex's birth story. You didn't think I actually remembered it did you?!?

Birth Story: After my 40 wk appt on 2/14/07 (original edd of 2/12/07), with yet another verdict of no dilation or effacement, we scheduled an induction for 2/21/07 and a u/s and nst for 2/16/07 to get some measurements and information on the baby before the induction. Since that was also Valentine's Day, DH and I celebrated as usual that night (although a little more difficult than usual). Then about 3 am, I woke up lying on my back in bed and was debating whether or not I needed to use the bathroom, when I suddenly felt a small gush of liquid. I got up and went to the bathroom, but didn't really feel any more leaking, so I decided to go lie back down. As soon as I did, I felt another gush, so I got up to clean again, and thought it might be my water breaking since that was how it was described in my childbirth class. I turned on the bedroom light and woke up DH and told him I thought my water might have broken. He said, "Ok, let's go," and jumped right up and got dressed. Since the leaking stopped whenever I was standing or sitting, I didn't feel too rushed and took my time making sure I had everything I wanted to bring to the hospital.

We started driving to the hospital about 20 minutes later, and DH asked if he could stop for gas and coffee. I wasn't having contractions, and didn't feel too bad, so I agreed. We arrived at the hospital around 3:30 am, and went to the L&D entrance, and DH let me out and brought all of the stuff in and put it on a bench and went to go park the car. As I was standing there waiting for DH, I realized that I was not inside the hospital entrance, but between entrances to the medical offices attached to the hospital. There was no connection to the hospital from there, so I picked up all of my stuff, and went back outside in the 30 degrees below zero weather, with the windchill, and started walking towards the L&D entrance (only about 50 ft away). I met DH on the way and he took all of the bags. When we got to the door, it was locked because of the late hour. Luckily, a young man in scrubs was walking by and opened the door for us. He got a wheelchair for me, and brought us over to the ER entrance on the other side of the hospital.

We arrived in the ER and the young girl behind the desk started freaking out when she saw me. She called L&D and asked to have someone come get me, but I guess they told her they were busy, b/c she said, "Well, I'm not delivering any babies tonight! Send someone as soon as you can!" After she hung up, she kept repeating that she couldn't deliver any babies, and begging every person that walked by to take me to L&D. Then she asked me why I was so calm. I wasn't having contractions, and I wasn't positive yet that my water had broken, so I didn't see any reason to freak out. Less than 5 minutes after we arrived, someone came and brought us to L&D, which was right next to the entrance we originally came in through.

They were able to confirm that my water had broken, so I was admitted to a L&D suite. Unfortunately, I was still not dilated at all or having productive contractions, so @ 5:30 am I was started on Pitocin to induce labor. The contractions started pretty soon after, and they were strong and close together. Since my water had already broken, monitors had to be on both me and the baby, and I also had an IV. I had to use the bathroom at least once an hour it seemed, which was a real pain with all of the equipment that had to be disconnected.

It happened to be DH's first day off work in 3 weeks, so he didn't need to call in. I had him call my work @ 8 am when I knew someone would be in the office, and across the room I heard him tell them I wasn't in labor yet, as I breathed through a contraction. The nurse leaned over and said that I was in labor, and I told her I knew that but I guess DH didn't. One of the doctors from my OB practice came in @ 9 am, but I was only 2 cm dilated, so I was given some pain meds, but it was too soon for the epidural. The nurse told me to try to get some rest, and I felt better for maybe 5-10 minutes, but then I had to go to the bathroom again and I felt like I was in more pain than before the meds, so I didn't get any rest. The contractions were so strong, and so close together, I felt like I never got a break. DH was wonderful, holding my hand and feeding me ice chips. He also danced around like a monkey to try to make me laugh.

Finally around 11 am, the doctor said I was dilated to 4 cm, an I got the epidural! This was definitely the highlight of the day (before DS was born!), and I felt 1000 times better. It also helped that the anesthesiologist was kind of hot. :lovestruc He had such a gentle touch, and it did not hurt at all. They also inserted a catheter, so I didn't have to get up to go to the bathroom anymore. That was also wonderful, the first time in months I didn't have to go every hour or more often. After that I couldn't feel any contractions at all and tried to get some rest, but my pulse kept setting off an alarm. The nurse said I was fine and within my normal range, but higher than the monitor's settings. Then my blood pressure dropped even lower than normal @ 12:30, so I was given an oxygen mask for an hour or so. It was too big though, so I had to hold it in place and concentrate on my breathing and still couldn't get any sleep even though I felt no pain.

Around 3 pm, the doctor said I was dilated 7-8 cm and we may start pushing in about an hour. Around 4 pm, I was feeling a lot of pressure and was fully dilated, but the baby still hadn't moved down much. The nurse told me to push at the next contraction, but thanks to the epidural I still couldn't feel them! So she checked the monitor and told me when to push. Unfortunately the baby was getting stressed from the pushing, so she put a monitor directly on his head to more closely monitor his heart rate. I pushed for over an hour, but the baby didn't budge and was getting more stressed and the nurse said she saw some meconium, so she told me to prepare for the possibility of a c-section.

The doctor came in again to check on me and agreed that a c-section would probably be necessary. I was exhausted from all of the pushing with no progress and concerned about the stress on the baby so I agreed. At that point I didn't really care how they got the baby out, I just wanted him out alive and healthy. The cute anesthesiologist came in and gave me more medication.

In the OR, there were 4 nurse, my OB, a surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and a neonatal specialist (due to the stress and meconium). They had already cut me open before they brought DH in, so when he came in he saw everything, then came to sit with me behind the curtain. I felt a lot of pressure and shaking, but not really much pain. Pretty soon the baby was out and DH was allowed to go around the curtain to see the baby, but he did not want to cut the cord. The nurses took DH and the baby to a recovery room while the doctors finished on me. I was so cold the whole time and couldn't stop shaking so I was afraid it would be harder for the doctors to finish.

When they finished, the nurses put 2 warm blankets on me and wheeled me into the recovery room. We stayed in there for about an hour and I was finally able to hold my baby boy. When I held him, he was so warm I finally stopped shaking. :cloud9:

THE END

QOTD: I was only 10dpo, but I was sure I was pregnant. Plus it was Easter, and I really thought it would be wonderful to find out on Easter AM that I was preg., so I woke up super early and finally gave in and tested. I used an extra digital test just to be clear, and sure enough, it said "PREGNANT"! I was totally excited, and went and showed it to DH (who was still just waking up). His response was "isn't it too soon? That could be wrong because it's still too early." He wouldn't really believe it until my period was a week late.

We waited to tell our family and close friends until after the Dr. confirmed the pregnancy at 7 weeks, and didn't tell everyone else until after 12 weeks. To tell our Bible study/potluck group, we signed up to bring dessert one night and showed up with pickles and ice cream. It took them a couple minutes to figure it out, and then they flipped out!

Thanks for your help!

Owen's schedule looks roughly like this:
7:30 - wake up, breakfast (solid - cereal and fruit + nurse)
9:30 - nurse, then nap
12:00 - wake up, lunch (solids - cereal/potatoes/beans and veggie + nurse)
2:30 - nurse, then nap
5:00 - wake up, dinner (solids - same as lunch)
7:30 - nurse, then bedtime
Wakes up once during the middle of the night to nurse - usually around 2 or 3 am.

Of course, he rarely sticks to his schedule exactly - he often wakes up earlier or later, takes shorter or longer naps, stays up later sometimes - but that's the rough outline. Has 2 naps a day, and eats whenever he wakes up and nurses before he goes to sleep. Usually is up for 2-3 hours at a stretch during the day.

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

Hey everyone! Happy 4th of July!!

We're done for the day... Vaylie is worn out so I'm not even going to attempt fireworks... Maybe next year! ;)

We didn't get to go swimming as it is freakishly cool here (Only got up to like 78-79 degress today!). Normally, the 4th is insanely hot (usually 95-100 degress). But, it is supposed to be warmer tomorrow and the next day, so we may still head to the lake.

QOTD: I didn't have to tell DH- we were both here at home.

It was June 23rd, 2006. A Friday. My sister's birthday. I had been testing since Sunday, with negatives the whole time. Sunday- nope. Monday? Nada. Tuesday? Dang it! Wednesday? F this, I give up. Thursday- too depressed to test, I just *knew* AF was on it's way. Friday: Wait a darn minute- my temps are still high!!!!

So, I woke Mark up before I had to go to work and begged him to go to wal-mart. Right now. At 6 am. He said no. :rotfl:

So, he promised me that he'd go before I came home for lunch so I could test on lunch. I just knew that if my temp was still up it'd be positive. So, I came home and rushed into the bathroom. I did my thing, and put the test on the counter to wait 3 minutes. I walked (skipped) into the kitchen, waited approximately 20 seconds, and flew back into the bathroom. POSITIVE!!!! I yelled, "Holy &^%#!!! I'm pregnant!!!!!!" He ran into the bathroom and looked and we both hopped and danced and jumped all over the living room. It was so exciting. Hard to believe that was 2 years ago, already.

Becky -- I noticed Ms. V is now princess coca-cola -- what is the story behind that? I'll bet its funny.
-Nicole

Somehow, long ago, I got a tag about loving coca-cola so much that I might name my first born child "Coca-Cola."

I'm just making good on my word. :lmao:

And about the crib- Honestly, if two kids got "abrasions"- I wouldn't even stress about it. Sometimes I think the recalls are a bit much. I could understand it more if kids suffocated, or fell, or anything else. But abrasions? Eh.

But then again, they are willing to pay for another crib, so if it would make you feel better, you could go ahead and get another.

ash- here is a pic of V in her dress- I love it! It is too cute. A little big on her since she is so petite, but that's ok- We'll save it until it fits!! It is so adorable, thank you so much!!!! :lovestruc Looks like you are having a good time at the beach!! Still, totally not jealous. Even a little.

Pollito- Alex and Vaylie DO sound so much alike!! How cute is that? Maybe because their birthdays are so close. Maybe because their mommies are so disney-obsessed. Who knows? :wizard:

What the heck. I'm the only person here. I'm taking over this thread.

Here are some pics of my baby girl today. I can't believe how big she's getting, and how fast she's doing it. :sad1:

aww i love the picture of vaylie in her dress! She is too precious. That is about how they fit Ellery too, she wore her flag one for the 4th of July. The sad thing is that she's 7 months old, lol. I saw a baby tonight and I thought she must be around Elle's age, and then I looked over and she was running around the beach.... So nope definately a lot older.

Well I've got to get Ellery to sleep. Hope everyone has had a great 4th!!!

Becky, she is just too cute!

We didn't do much yesterday; just stayed at home.

QOTD: It was July 16. We had been trying for about seven months (although, I wasn't temping or anything). For some reason I just felt pregnant, so we bought a test, but I didn't take it until the next day (my birthday). That morning, I woke up and took the test. As soon as I looked at it I saw the line, but didn't believe it. I called DH in and asked if he saw anything. We stood in the bathroom and I cried; it was the BEST present ever. Still, I wanted to see the word "Pregnant", so we bought a digital test later that day. :)

Thanks Amber & Ash. It is so much fun to have her around (even when she's throwing a tantrum or refusing to eat veggies thus sending her mother into a whirlwind of guilt and anxiety). :)

Well, Brady has yet another double ear infection. UGH.

I knew it was coming. He gets them whenever he has a cold...and he's got a cold during the week.

Called pedi office this am, he's been pulling with the left ear and it turns out it's both. He hadn't been pulling on the right, but when the nurse went to take his temp in his right ear he pulled away. Of course my first thought was oh boy, it's both ears.

Luckily he's so good. last night he was very cuddly, today we were still able to go out to lunch w/my parents, seeing that we didn't make it to their house yesterday. Now he's lying on hubby.
