:yay:

Oh yeah, we had some pet turtles we took home from Arkansas when I was a kid. We were driving through the Ozarks and my sister and I were freaking out at all the dead turtles in the road. We were screaming at my dad not to hit any of them! Finally we saw some moving and made him stop to rescue them. :rotfl2:

:lmao:

We saw an Armadillo in the Magic Kingdom last month. He was making his way into his hole. It was on the path between Toontown and Tomorrowland. Kind of sad cause last trip we saw bunnies there. Hope he didn't make them move out.

Armadillos are very common her too. We lived in South Carolina for a few years. I knew I was back home when I saw a dead one in our neighborhood. Someone was outside pouring lighter fluid on it getting ready to dispose of the body.:scared1:

Armadillo IN Magic Kingdom? Cool!

ahhh the poly......what a great place to stay..tipping the bell services guy is usually a dollar a bag and if he/she was great, maybe a few extra dollars

Coulda used that info earlier. :)

We have them here too. Usually see them along the highway in various states of decay.

It's been ages since I've been to an Austin mall. Once we got a Cheddars and a Kohls, we pretty stopped going to Austin all together.

Nobody cleans them up?

Once nesting was finished, the wife decided we needed to go grocery shopping. This was going to be her way to save a little money as the hotel was quite expensive.

The cost of the room I speculated to be around $300 per evening. However, add in taxes and all the other whatnot and it climbs quickly. On top of that, we’d ordered a mini fridge for the room. Seven nights at $15 per, and we’d not only pay for the cost of the fridge, but have a nice down payment on a second one.

I kept quiet on the fridge though.

We ended up somewhere off site that had a grocery store. The wife and twins went inside and I meandered out in the parking lot. I don’t do well in a crowded atmosphere and grocery stores are just too chaotic for me.

I ended up in a bull session with a guy in a kiosk of the grocery store parking lot who sold tickets to various theme parks throughout the Orlando area.

I found him to be sort of a weird duck but I’m sure he felt the same about me. He knew I wasn’t local so wanted to where I was from. I told him Idaho and he asked what state that was in.

About that time I noted a long, dark red Oldsmobile come driving up next to us. It had gold wheels and skinny little tires. The front end was jacked up higher than the rear end and some of that God forsaken rap music was blaring out the windows. The folks inside looked dangerous with their wife beater t-shirts and exposed tattoos so l did my best to look both calm, yet menacing.

Must of worked, they drove off and exited the parking lot on the far side. I bid farewell to the kiosk ticket salesman and went to hang out in front of the grocery store to protect my clan as the exited the store.

I tried to explain the encounter to the wife but all I got was a “Oh Colt, you’re imagining things. Probably just some boys out for a drive”.

I’d a begged to differ but knew it wouldn’t go nowhere.

Back to the room we went with our groceries and once again passed the dead armadillo. Again I tried to point it out to the twins and explain how unusual it was but again, they weren’t interested.

We again parked in valet and again I had to tip. I made a note to myself to get more cash at the ATM when I saw one.

Back in the room, the twins got in their jammies, the wife was getting ready for the big day tomorrow, and I decided to go for a little walk and explore the resort. Heck, might even have to have a nightcap to help me sleep.

I kept quiet on the fridge though.

Smart man, Colt Blackwood.

I love that expression, "weird duck". Learned it from my dad.

He knew I wasn’t local so wanted to where I was from. I told him Idaho and he asked what state that was in.

Probably thinks that New Mexico is a foreign country too.

so l did my best to look both calm, yet menacing.

Oh yeah, that's me. :rotfl2:

Good thing you're getting practice....you might need that look to dodge strollers in the parks.

I made a note to myself to get more cash at the ATM when I saw one.

This was the moment you became a Disney veteran. :thumbsup2

Be careful. Keep that calm, yet menacing look handy just in case.

Is your wife an Idaho native? We used to tease the relatives visiting CA from Idaho, because they were terrified of driving on the freeways. Having been away from CA for a few years now, I'm much more compassionate to their fears.

YOu had to get extra cash from the ATM??!!

REALLY??!!

How'd you do that? Break my post down into all those segments?

Yup. She's born and raised in Nampaj, ID

My mother told me to never talk to kiosk men.

Great update Colt!

Thanks! :)

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

 I didn't bring much cash. didn't figure I'd need much. boy was I wrong.

Also, I was about to learn (the next day) that a busy grocery is nothing next to Magic Kingdom on a Saturday. :sad2:

I quoted your post, then copied the characters at the end of it (bracket slash, the word QUOTE, bracket) to where I wanted to end a segment. Then I copied the characters at the beginning of it (bracket, QUOTE=name; some number, bracket) to where I wanted to start another segment. Rinse and repeat.

I'd laugh at the guy wanting to know what state Idaho is in, but sadly I can believe it. I grew up in Utah so I know what it's like to tell someone where you're from and just get a blank stare.

Now I get to be annoyed anytime I tell someone east of the mississippi (who ever came up with that name must have had a score to settle with someone with a lisp) where was I?

Oh, almost anyone east of the mississippi after being told I live in Washington assume I mean D.C.....if I lived in Washington D.C....I would have said that. I once met a real einstein who didn't know there was a washington state.:thumbsup2

I thought the fridge would be included in a room at the Poly?! :confused3
thats just nutz!!!

You came to the right place for vacation then! :lmao:My hubby hates crowds! :sad2:

I completely believe this!! I lived in FL for a short while. :lmao:

We again parked in valet and again I had to tip. I made a note to myself to get more cash at the ATM when I saw one.

Did you have to use the Valet? :confused3

How old are the twins? :surfweb:

Cant wait to hear what happens on your first full day!! popcorn::

According to WDW's website the fridge should have been an included ammenity at the Poly. I would have asked why I was charged for it. I thought you only had to pay for fridges at the values?

Colt - you're a great story teller. Of course, I only believe half of what you are telling me.....or should I say 1/4? ;) Nonetheless, your trip report remains thoroughly entertaining.

hmm. ok, i think i understand that.

toeheaded twins are 8.

Wife told me it was $15 per day. I'll check with her though. I didn't pay any bills as she didn't want me to see exactly what anything cost. I only speculated on what we paid for the room. I really don't even know what the total per night that was. :confused3

which part is too crazy to believe? :headache: :)

I, too, thought the refrigerator was included...but maybe the wifey decided the less you knew as far as costs went the better......;)

Great update as usual Colt.

Colt-Your wife sounds like a smart women- Iwould go with the less you know about prices the better...keeps the heart attack count lower and your sanity a little more intact

What a great trip report. We live in a small heck town in Northern WI and my husband had many of the same thoughts on his first trip to Disney. Since he has gone 3 more times and each time it gets a little better.

which part is too crazy to believe? :headache: :)

Hmmmmm.... I'm not sure.....maybe its your description of the crazy guys outside the grocery store. I need to see a picture of that! ;) I think its just your writing style....its funny and I like the way it exaggerates the different moments of your trip. You are a great story teller. Don't change anything!
Keep it big!
