I am loving these pics. :thumbsup2 Thanks so much for posting them!

16 days! :woohoo:

Hello, GF lovers!! We are back from our trip, we had a wonderful time and loved our stay at HRH and PBH.:goodvibes:

Stopped by the GF one afternoon to take some photos and hang out in the lobby. DD paid a visit to Basin White for some bath bombs and we listened to the pianist and orchestra.:cloud9:

I'm still trying to get laundry done and the house straightened up - DH was home with a Cavalier and Lab, so not much more than Fetch got done while we were gone!;)

Just saw your ticker! I see you are doing a "snack room tour" :yay: I hope you will post a comparison/review when you return!
Just noticed your ticker is at exactly 4 months and mine is at exactly 3 months for WL. When will our trips overlap?:guilty:

:welcome: back and it sounds like DH and the DDs (Dear/Disney Dogs) had a great time:rotfl:

The big question is....

What our your plans for your next trip to FL? Will they include at stay at your beloved GF or are you waiting until after the construction? BTW, the thread is getting so close to 250 pages:scared:

Welcome home, we missed you! So glad to hear you had a great trip...no surprise you will pay for it now that you are home

So glad you got to the GF :cloud9: Was the construction pretty much what you expected?

I am proud to say we NEVER fell to page 2 while you were away. We took our job very seriously :goodvibes

KOOK, our next trips are exactly a month apart :upsidedow When are you going again?!

Hello everyone..been a while since I've posted in this thread but I have a good excuse. This time next week I will be on-site @ GF!

I apologize if I'm asking about things that have already been discussed, but unfortunately I don't have the time to go through all 240 pages lol

My fiance and I just switched from the Poly to the GF for our honeymoon this July 1-8, mostly because the AP discount made the GF $300 cheaper. Neither of us has ever stayed there (he actually hasn't been to WDW at all!), and we both thought it sounded like a great place for a honeymoon (and some people in the weddings/honeymoons section of the board suggested we switch as well ;) )

I hadn't done much research into the construction or the monorail issues, so my questions are mainly about them. Is the beach at the GF entirely closed? Is there anywhere left where we could sit in a hammock and just relax if we wanted to? We both like being outside whenever there's sun, so the bar inside isn't exactly our idea of a relaxing place to sit. If there really is no beach is there any agreement with the Poly to use their beach? (I know there's no swimming so when I say use I mean sit on ;) )

Also, I had read somewhere that the monorail construction was supposed to be completed by mid-May, but does that mean that the monorails will be running like normal by then or are there still going to be these 'age' issues and delays?

I'm beginning to question the decision, as it was hard enough already (I'm a lifelong Poly lover as I've stayed there many times with my parents), and I really want to be sure it's worth it...

I was just thinking the same thing....OK we will let her get her :laundy: the a quick TR..then a 2012 GF thread....oh boy, no pressure :flower3:

Ok only 38 more days until we arrive at the GF. Just bought some more outfits yesterday.:yay::woohoo:

All right everyone..I've got a few last minutes changes and questions. Due to unfortunate circumstances, my disabled Aunt will not be coming along for the trip. She was really looking forward to it but her arthritis is really bad and she just doesn't' think she will be able to do it.

So I called Disney and they didn't charge me a fee for changing my reservation last minute so I thought that was nice of them. Of course, I let them know that I will not be needing a handicapped room anymore so they made that change. I also changed my view from lagoon to garden. So my question now is what building should I request that is close to the pool but far away from the construction? Boca Chica seems like a nice area.

& lastly...should I do the on-line check-in to skip the lines? It's basically "Here's your folder & KTTW..enjoy your stay." It would be nice to hear the whole spiel from the cast member since it is my first time staying @ GF.

I will be sure to take lots of pics for everyone!

CoachBagFanatic - Semper Fi...:)

I've enjoyed my stays at Boca Chica. I think that should work well for you Sfmarine.

NML. A few posts back they mention the monorail closures are intermittent. My family prefers GF over Poly so we think you made a great choice for your honeymoon. We like the outside areas better than poly and the pools. It just seems more relaxing and special.

Sorry about your Aunt. I've only stayed in Sugarloaf but GF is so pretty and compact....anywhere is fine I bet...JMHO. I like online check in..but only because I feel like my trip is real :cool1:

:wave2: Hi pas130 How are you? Your trip is only a couple of days away. I am excited for you guys.:cool1:

sfmarine So sorry to hear about your Aunt. I hope she is feeling better soon. My aunt has arthritis also and it's horrible. Like pas130 said, I don't think there is a bad view.:thumbsup2

Thanks, everyone, for the welcome back! I know you've done a great job, never a doubt.:grouphug: When I get time, I'm going to go back and read what I missed.

sfmarine - Sorry about your aunt, how disappointing for her and you. As others posted, Boca Chica is very near the courtyard pool (and pool bar, yay!) and the boat dock, Narcoossee's, etc. Conch Key is a good choice, too.

WDWKOOK - I know, I know - when I was preparing to leave, I looked at the number of pages and felt I probably had enough time to travel and recover before needing to start the new thread.:scratchin

After looking at the resort, I think I would stay at the GF on our next visit to Orlando - if there was a good discount. Even though the construction has encroached on the peace of the courtyard, and it feels more closed in than I expected, the lobby was still relaxing and the resort is beautiful.

Jungle Cruiser - how are you, my friend? The construction was very much as I expected, you have all given such a good description of the work.:thumbsup2

NML11383 - Welcome!:goodvibes Ask anything you like, we are here to help.

Best wishes for your upcoming marriage, and congrats on booking the GF for your honeymoon. Such a romantic resort.:cloud9: I believe you made a great choice, even with the construction.

The GF beach is narrowed to a small strip of sand, no hammocks left as they seem to have been removed for the fencing. I believe there is still a swing, but I'll have to look at my photos. You can sit at the Summerhouse landing and look out at the beach area and lagoon. Not a hammock, but still relaxing. Or hang out at the courtyard pool, or around the marina, or in the lobby. I know you've stated you aren't indoor people, but I think you will be more so once you've spent a bit of time in the GF lobby.:goodvibes

You can certainly walk over to the Poly and sit on their beach - everyone is allowed to do so.

The monorail was running the afternoon and evening we visited. When we asked a CM at the GF station about delays, he said they aren't scheduled now; whenever the construction crane gets close to the line, the monorail is halted and a CM walks out to physically watch until the coast is clear, radioing the info to the monorail conductors. Keep in mind - any monorail slow downs or stoppages will affect ALL monorail resorts, not just the GF, so switching to the Poly won't help in that regard.

I can't say whether the GF is worth it to you, but it sounds like you will be saving some cash vs. the Poly, so that's something! We are Poly lovers from way back, but once we started staying at the GF it was hard to go anywhere else.:lovestruc

ETA: I took quite a few photos of the beach area on our recent visit, when I get them uploaded I'll be glad to post them.

Thanks k&a&c'smom! I've always been a Poly person, and while I'm not sure this trip will convert me entirely to GF cult status it probably will make it harder for me to have a clear cut favorite in the future! ;)

We definitely plan on heading over to the beach at the Poly one evening to just sit and watch the fireworks and electric water parade now that we know it isn't technically illegal :) We are actually incredibly excited about staying at the GF - we both know it will be a LONG time before we can save enough to manage it again (if ever!)! :) And we will follow your suggestions on those places to sit and relax! The lobby is so grand- you're right, the indoors will probably win us over part of the way through ;)

Glad to hear the monorail seems to be running somewhat more smoothly! I know it wouldn't be any different coming from the Poly for the MK, but Epcot from the Poly requires one less monorail by walking to the TTS, so that's where I thought there might be a difference. Honestly though, we might just take the 20-30 minute walk around the lagoon to the TTS to get the Epcot monorail- it would probably be nice and peaceful and give us some great alone time :)

Thanks again for being so kind and answering my questions and not jumping down my throat for not being able to read all 240 pages in one sitting! ;)
