The NEW Disney's Contemporary Resort FAQ with PICTURES! (Feb 2008)

Just DH and Me at the Contemporary for five nights in Feb 2009! I never considered this resort until last year we went to WDW for our planning trip for our DFTW Vow Renewal and wanted to stay on the monorail so we chose the Contemporary. We have stayed at the Poly a few times and liked it and wanted to try something else so we booked 3 nights at the Contemporary and 2 nights at Saratoga Springs - what a mistake! We should have stayed all five nights at the Contemporary - we loved it there! So we are coming back for a no-kids vacation in Feb - Grandma can watch the kids! I guess I need to update my ticker!

I also have a few questions about the computers...

Are there are any document programs on the computer like notepad that I could open up a word document in?

I couldn't see any way to get to Word. I couldn't even find Notepad. You might be able to use something like Google Docs though.

Can I hook up an external drive to the computer with my files on it?

I don't think so. The problem is there is no way to access the file system that I could see. No Windows Explorer, and very controlled Internet Explorer.

Does the internet feature on the computers allow you to access email programs like gmail and aol?

I used my work email system, so I don't think that would be a problem.

Sorry for all the questions. I would bring my own laptop but it weighs 12 pounds and the ethernet port is broken.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I dunno, this all sounds a lot like work! I'd avoid that at all costs. :lmao:

:goodvibes Thank you CRRF4L and Michygoomy!

I'm hoping I might be far enough along that I won't have to worry too much about the paper during my "vacation," however that google docs application looks like it would do the job!

Alright, it's getting down to crunch time & I'm starting to pack. Our most recent trip was at the GF but before that only value & once moderate. W/ the values, it was helpful to have one of those shoe organizers for your door due to space. I also have in the past used a collapsible storage hanger in the closet for extra space. Is that necessary at the CR? We are the type of family that unpacks everything once we arrive so I wonder if there's room for that or if I need to bring those extra things to organize. Also, I'm sure this is obvious, but just wanted to make sure there is a hair dryer there. Just checking. Thanks!

The CR is a great place but if there is any downside to the rooms it is that they are not blessed with a lot of storage space. We had four drawers and a safe - which were within the closet where clothes are hung.

From what I've seen and heard, there is very little storage space/drawers in the room. People have talked about putting their luggage in the bathroom/toilet room to add space to the room. I would bring every trick you have. The closet looked skinny to me also. And with flat screen TV's, there was no need for a big dresser to put a TV into. I've seen hairdryers under the sink in photos. But no space in the sink area to place stuff. Need to put things under the sink, or use one sink for "stuff" as many people have mentioned.

So, is there room for the over the door organizer:confused: Which door because I here the bathroom door is a pocket door.:confused3

If you try hard enough I am sure you will be able to make room. As for the bathroom door it's one of those sliding doors, so it's not a simple one where you just close it and lock it.

What my family and I do is un pack a few things to put in the drawers and other items we just leave in our luggage.

Mine does the same... and what I like to do is if i can, put all my "outfits" together in the suitcase. That way i can just grab that stack of clothes and move on... I usually put the stuff i buy in the drawers, and sometimes stuff i wear over again, things like hats, or jeans or what ever else... The only thing i really hang in the closest is the jacket i bring and my sweatshirts... also sometimes i will place my carry on bag in the closet to save space

Thanks for that info. I have been searching for a picture of the closet but I'm sure you guys know...so the drawers that are in the room are in the closet? I guess that is the downside to a flatscreen tv, no need for a dresser anymore!

Also, if any of you have experience in this, I'd appreciate it...we will be arriving late at the CR-probably around 10 pm or so. I am worried they would give our room away if we are not there by a certain time. I have told our TA to put that info on the reservation but still wonder if I will need to call myself & say "hey! We're still coming, don't give away our room!" on the day of our arrival.

You guys are great!!

I seriously doubt they would give your room away because of a late arrival, especially considering all the things that can go wrong when traveling (lets hope not though). But if you do become really concerned, it never hurts to call and say, my flight doesn't land till 10!
and i did a quick google search, and look at these pics... seems from them there is quite a bit of closet space... http://hotels.about.com/od/disneyworld/ig/New-Rooms--Disney-Contemporary/New-Guest-Room.htm

I like to unpack when we get there as well. Here is what I did. There were drawers next to the bed. (I think it was only 2). Then there were some drawers under the safe in the closet (I want to say 2 or 3 - but they were smaller than the ones next to the bed. Above the safe in the closet there was a rod to hang clothes on. The other closet had 2 rods in it.

The closet with the safe there was some room on the side of the safe. I just kept garmet bag and then my ready for the pool bag there.

For our luggage. I used the space under the desk. I had a 3 piece lugge set and a carryon. The carryon fit in the hole next to the dresser drawers. The area with the toilet you could certainly put some luggage as well. I also had one of those large duffle bags. I kept that below the TV. Once it was empty I tossed in everyone's shoes. Best thing I did. They were all in one place and the kids just looked in the bag for their shoes.

One thing I learned from the boards for the kids clothes. Get some of those gallon ziplock bags. Put the day on the bag, inside put socks, shirt, shorts and underwear for the day. We did alot of character meals and I tried to have the kids outfits match they wore about 2 outfits a day. This worked out so well for me. I would just toss the bag to my son and he would get himself dressed. One less thing for me to think about. Then I would use that ziplock to put my maps or whatever in that day in case it rained or the water rides.

Also, since we are on the topic of luggage. Make sure you check the website of your airline. We took JetBlue and if you had booked your flights prior to March you were still able to bring 2 bags per person. The only thing was we had to mention it to the person who checked our bags, because they would charge you if you didn't bring it up.

Have a great time!

I was going on to the CR thread to post the question about the storage...I stayed at the Poly in November and they had little to no drawers/closet space for a family of 5 it was horrible~ Thanks for the heads up..I will try to pack really organized..the ziplock bag idea is great ;)

I'm lucky. I never unpack at hotels. I keep everything folded in my suitcase, and as I wear things I put them in a dirty clothes bag. I even try to fit my souvineers in my suitcase, too, but that gets hard at Disney! Too much stuff! :rotfl:

The only problem at the CR for me is lack of counter space in the bathrooms. That's a really poor design. But I can deal with it. And even in the bathroom, I put everything back in my suitcase every morning, so the problem is only while I'm actually in there.

I would call CRO and tell them the time you think you will arrive to note it on your reservation if that will make you feel better. However I can say I have seen guests checking-in there after 10:00 PM so you won't be the first and I don't see them giving your room away. Just incase if the worst happens bring your confirmation to show them which proves you have a reservation there.

Is it worth it to go and not be in the tower? We have a November trip planned. Our room is garden wing/garden view. I'd love to do the tower, but am trying to keep costs down. I had one person tell me she wouldn't stay there if she couldn't be in the tower, that she'd do WL instead.
