Oh yes....thank you for reminding me of that. My mom has a lung condition and can't be anywhere near smoke. So much for that idea....thanks again!

I just saw something about teacher rates at CSR. My family has already booked a dream maker package for July, and my dad is a teacher. Are there teacher rates that apply and can we change our already paid reservations to get a refund?? Thanks!

Do any of the corner rooms at CSR have two windows? We had a corner room at POR with two windows and was wondering if they had similiar rooms at CSR. Thanks!

That's great! Thanks Buzz! I guess I should set my countdown clock so we can really start getting excited about our trip :Pinkbounc

The post you saw was referring to the teacher rate at the Swan/Dolphin. The poster had debated whether to stay at CSR or the Swan/Dolphin. There isn't a teacher rate at CSR.

Hope that helps! :D

Hi All :)

I got back from CSR on Tuesday June 1st and haven't had a chance to write up my full trip resorts but I thought I'd give my review of CSR.

We got to CSR around 1:30 and were bouncing up and down with joy as we drove through the gates. We were back!! The sun was shining and we couldn't wait to check in.

There was a bit of a line, but nothing horrible and it turns out that fax requests really do work :) We had booked a standard view room and I had faxed ahead a few days to see if it was possible to get a room in casitas. Well low and behold "oh you've got a great room, second floor of casitas 1 with a view of Lago Dorado"

We weren't going to dare to ask for another room, that was perfect, exactly what we wanted. So we drove over to the casitas and thankfully met up with a guy from bell services who helped us with our bags. Well we have NEVER had a better room at CSR. It was a corner room, one window facing Lago Dorado, the other facing El Centro, yes we were all of a 2 minute walk from El Centro it was amazing.

Even more amazing was walking into the room and seeing three Happy Birthday Balloons, a card for my parents signed by Minnie and Mickey and a beautiful wooden memory box. I had asked in the fax for a special touch for my parents birthday :) It was just amazing and made us all fall in love with CSR even more.

The room was one that had been recently renovated, I took some pictures and will get around to scanning them as soon as i can. I was really happy to see that they added a privacy curtain to the bathroom. This was really helpful for us.

The only complaint we ever have about CSR is the fact that the beds are double beds, other than that we are in love with every aspect of it. We ate a few times at the Pepper Market, got take out for breakfast nearly every day. Had one lunch and one dinner there, but we decided that we would take our food back to our room because it was so close. Never have we taken such advantage of the refillable mugs either. Because we were so close to El Centro we would refill 3 times a day. 3 drinks per person, times 3 people for 10 days, thats a lot of drinks LOL. And just a word to the wise, the mug prices at CSR have now been upped to 11.99

We also fell in love with the Casitas Quiet pool this trip and ended up spending more time there than at the Dig Site. It was just so calming, and again, so close by.

All in all CSR rocked this trip, and it isn't because we felt there was anything wrong about it, quite the contrary, its our favorite resort, but our next trip will be in May 2006 and we're going to head back to the Wilderness Lodge as it is our favorite Deluxe and we haven't stayed there in 7 years.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask :)

Wow!! Thanks for the great report. The more that I hear about CSR the more excited I get about our August trip! Sounds like you had a fabulous time!

We just returned from our first stay at CSR! It was WONDERFUL and we will happily return in the future!

I didn't fax anyone with a room request and on our original reservation my only requests were non-smoking and Cabanas section. We got Cabanas 8B, which was wonderful! We had a standard view reserved and I could have asked for an upgrade to water view but I didn't think of it.

Our view was of the parking lot with a little bit of a grassy area outside the door. It was fine and convenient to the bus stop, Dig Site, quiet pool, laundry and main buildings. Several times we saw a little bunny on the grassy area outside our room!

Our room was very similar to the only other moderate we've ever stayed at (POR). I really liked the curtain that could be drawn by the sink area to allow for more people to change clothes at the same time. The bathroom was particularly festive in its colors!

We loved the Dig Site and the water slide! Just wish it was open earlier and later in the day (the slide).

Our only complaints are very minor. Our first night we had 4 towels & 2 washclothes for the 4 of us. We just got by with it. The other nights we had enough for everyone. Also each day we came back to the room around 2:00-3:00 to swim and our room was never made up yet. That was a little annoying because we felt like we needed to hurry and get out because we figured someone would be coming around soon to clean.

A few random observations:

Every CM we encountered was extremely friendly! We love the "sweet roll lady", as we call her, at the Pepper Market.

Love the Pepper Market and ate there 3 times (using Q&C vouchers).

We thought the Casita area had the nicest quiet pool.

I didn't care for the look of the Ranchos but it was my son's favorite.

The grounds in general and the wildlife really make this an exquisite resort.

There was some sort of teacher convention going on but it didn't deter from our enjoyment of the resort at all. I really didn't see a lot of little kids at CSR, except when we were at the pool.

We took the buses everywhere and never moved our car. Once when we were coming back from somewhere we were the only ones on the bus and the driver asked what stop we wanted to go to and he went there first!

We rented the 4 seater surrey bike our last morning and drove around the resort. DS (age 16) thought it was really strange that he's old enough to drive a water mouse boat by himself but wasn't old enough to drive the bike (must be 18). (And we got the bike for free - but that's another story!)

Overall we all really liked CSR and would stay there again. My DS liked it the least and wants to go back to the Dolphin. We love the Dolphin too but just couldn't afford it this time. If we stay at a moderate again I'm sure CSR will be our first choice!

Ok, I'm starting to stress again  We're staying there this August, with DS 17 and DS 14... the last time we stayed at the Dolphin and both my boys liked it there. What didn't your DS like about CSR?

Great review BTW! What times did the slide open/close?

Mercy, don't stress! :D I bet your DS's will love CS! My DS said the theme didn't appeal to him, he was disappointed in the room compared to the Dolphin (no balcony at CS) and he didn't like the CS lobby. He has said in the past he could go to the Dolphin and never leave and have a wonderful vacation so this is coming from someone who is a real fan of that resort. Honestly our whole family truly LOVES the Dolphin but we just couldn't afford it this time . . but CS is really wonderful too and we just look at DS in disbelief when he finds any fault with it. Of course he is 16 so we look at him in disbelief a lot!!! :p

I almost forgot your question about the slide. I never found set rules regarding the slide hours. They may have set hours but I didn't see them. We were at the pool one morning about 9:30 AM and it was closed and another evening about 8-9:00 PM and it was closed. It seems to be open only when there is a lifeguard present. The one evening there had been thunderstorms for a couple of hours so maybe they sent the lifeguards home thinking the swimming was pretty well shot for the night.

You sons will love the Dig Site. Arcade, volleyball, the slide (which is not a kiddie slide). The resort is great for a moderate and can't be compared to a deluxe.
