THANKS!! We are so excited!!

I do have a question about the Yeehaw Bob show...I have read where he performs from 8:30 to midnight. Does he have a couple of performances or is that one show? If there are a couple of performances, how long is each show? We're trying to work in a performance but don't know if the kids can make it to midnight.

What is a "celebration bar"?! Is it yet another yummy treat I must try?
Thanks!

Hope you have a great time, Mulii5!!

We've decided to stay at CSR this month instead of POR, but POR will always remain at the top of our list of fave resorts. We do plan on taking the boat from DTD to POR one night to grab a piece of carrot cake and a celebration bar, though.:yay:

The show lasts all evening, with a short break in the middle, but it's very informal and relaxed in a lounge/bar setting and you and drop in and out as you wish. By the end, many of the families with younger kids may have left and been replaced by adults returning from the parks.

It is Chocolate Chips, Peanut Butter Chips, Butterscotch Chips, Coconut, Fudge, Graham Cracker and cookie dough all in cookie-type treat. :woohoo:

Definitely worth using a snack credit.

Can be found at the bakery in the food court.

So excited- we are leaving in less than 40 days for our first family vacation to Disney. We are staying at POR for 5 nights, and there will be 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 little ones (4yo, 1.5yo)

Besides the decor, can someone tell me the difference between the rooms in AB and the mansions......

Thanks!

Inside the rooms it's pretty much just the decor details that change. Alligator Bayou rooms do have the extra trundle bed, but otherwise the actual features are pretty much the same.

There are some subtle differences such as the mansions have a bench-seat for luggage next to the TV, wheras AB has more of a trunk-like box seat (i.e. no space underneath) and the same goes for the beds (AB beds have some usable storage space for bags underneath, mansions don't) but really minor stuff.

We are vacationing at Disney in late August and planning on staying at pofq. However there is a possibility that we may have an additional adult tagging along with our family of four. How are the AB rooms for 5 people? Also, how easy or difficult would it be to change our existing reservation at pofq to por in AB section? Anyone?:confused3

Building 27 is also a nice close building, and shares the same quiet pool as building 18

I notice that you have stayed at por for many of your visits. We are planning a trip for our family of 4 to stay at pofq but I've been back and forth regarding riverside. How would you compare them?:confused3

A lot of what you see and read on this board is a matter of personal preferences.
We will be staying at POR again this year because we like the overall feel of the resort.
We have stayed in the Alligator Bayou section and the Mansions section. The rooms are basically the same, just different decor.
I have walked down to POFQ for beignets and coffee, and while it is quiet, it is also more closed in than POR. The buildings are all surrounding what amounts to groups of courtyards, with quaint narrow streets, inventively name, like Rue De Bega etc. Once in that inner section though, it's buildings all around you, and you loose that feeling of openness. Again, it's an individual feeling.
Some people find this to be a benefit, because it means everything is close, and they don't have as much walking while at the resort.
I don't mind a walk in the morning. The closest building we have stayed at is building 18 in AB. This was a nice location, with the quiet pool and laundry very close for late night swims, and laundry convenience, and the short (1 minute max) walk to the food court was nice for mug refills in the evening.
The furthest away we have been was a toss up between Partierre place and Oak Manor.
Looking at the map, http://www.wdwinfo.com/maps/PortOrleansMap.pdf
At Partierre Place, we were on the side of the building, closest to the last smoking area near the river. This was not a bad walk to either the POR main building, or POFQ.
In Oak Manor, we were all the way out at the end of the building near the parking lots, but furthest from the east depot. Until we figured things out, this was by far the worst.

As far as why WE like POR. I wake up early everyday (6:30 feels like sleeping in) At Disney, I am first up, and walk to the food court to get a cup of coffee.
If in AB, I find a place to sit near our room, and relax watching the animals, the people out for their morning runs, or heading to breakfast. In the mansions, I sit on a bench watching the rabbits romp around the courtyard, listening to the whisper of the fountains, and watching the boats go by, bringing the cast members to work etc... After my first cup of coffee, I go back to the room and get my wife's mug, and fill the both of them, so she can wake up to a fresh cup of coffee as well. We don't use the in room coffee makers usually because I don't want to make any noise to disturb anyone still sleepeing. It's also nice if you are there in the evening and watching the sun go down. The people on the DTD boats are always waving, it's nice to listen to the clip clop of the horses taking someone on a carriage ride, the distant laughter of kids as their parents take them around on the surrey bikes, it all adds up to a summer evening in a rural area. ( Incidentally, It sounds like where I grew up, as well as here I live now, even though both are in New England)
In all the years we've stayed there, even when it is fully booked, I can rely on being able to start my morning in the peace and quiet.
I have to say that when I've walked to POFQ for beignets, their courtyard section is quiet as well. It's just not what I am looking for in scenery, and atmosphere.
One of the reasons I won't go back to the value resorts is that I don't find it easy to relax in the mornings, or the evenings. and there aren't really any quiet areas near each building, but that is just us, and the way WE feel.
We did try another mod, not part of the PO duo, and did not enjoy it as much as POR.

Thanks for your time and information. I like to have an insider's view.
If we were to go to Riverside, which building would you recommend? We like to be close to the main hall and pool but without being right on top of all the action. I was thinking building 85 (Magnolia Terrace) as it looks close-ish to the pool and main building, or building 18 in AB. What do you think? Pros or Cons?

Wow, I just got relaxed reading about your mornings at POR. Thanks! You have me more excited to stay there in a month. And thanks for taking the time to write such a wonderful account of why you like it there.

Hey Westah.......I'm looking at the map, and it appears as though Oak Manor would be one of the closest buildings to the food court.....it looks like there is a little bridge by the pool on the south side.....??? so, what was the secret you figured out?????

Web stah, what a nice reply. If I could only put all that into words so nicely! I feel the same way about POR, right down to enjoying the peaceful mornings. I have my tea watching the world wake up, and then head to the food court to fill my dh's and the kids mugs.

I would describe the Mansions as being more formal looking, almost historical in a way, with beautifully manicured and formal grounds and gardens. We have not stayed in the rooms here, but from pictures I'd say they have a more elegant theme than AB. AB is more rustic, but with beautiful and lush vegetation all around. I love the grounds on both sides, but enjoy the winding, lush paths through AB to get to the rooms or pools. It seems like their is hardly a soul there sometimes, even though we go in June/July. The rooms are very rustic though, having carved poles for the headboards, and more of a quilted look pattern on bedspreads and curtains. We stay in AB due to being a family of 5.

You could look up pictures here on the Disboards, or go to portorleans.org for so much more info. without searching.

Oh Webstah what an amazing review. Took me right back to our December trip. Thank you for posting!

Only one problem here - there is no real coffee. Nescrape does not count as a fresh cup of coffee. ;) :sad1:

If you look at where the bridge is, then follow that wing all the way out to the parking lot, that's where we were.
If you follow the sidewalk beside the building (on the pool side), there are constant turns following the building profile, not a straight line.
We just basically found that we could save alot of time by cutting through the middle of the building. We hadn't realized the opening was there.
That saved us about 5 minutes of walking each way.

You should try what I had to drink at sea when I was in the Navy!!!
Submarines were not known for having gourmet kitchens.
FYI, the sub I was on was built next to the Thresher, and was 20 years old before I got onboard.
You had to take a chisel to the sugar because of the humidity, and the non-dairy creamer you basically had to try to grind to make it dissolve in your coffee, hence the Navy term Black and Bitter.
With all the things people have to do without, I am not going to complain just because I'd rather have different coffee, I'd rather be greatful for the fact I can go to Disney.
