Wow! Such romantic stories. Since we are sharing, here is our engagement story. Christmas Day, 1996. DH and I had been dating for about 8 months. We new each other in college, but didn't date. Actually, DH still gives me a hard time because apparently we were at a lot of the same parties & concerts & he remembers seeing me & talking with me but I barely remember him. Oh well, I guess the timing wasn't right. Anyway, we were heading out to DH's grandmother's house on Christmas Day & he pulled into a farm & said he wanted to show me something. As we pulled back onto the farm, he explained that the farm used to be owned by his family & while his parents were going through their divorce, this was the place he came to get away from all the trauma. As he got older, this was the one place he would come if he needed to get away & think. He explained that he had never brought another person there, but he wanted to share it with me. He then said he loved me & wanted to spend his life with me. Of course, I had figured out what he was doing about 1/2 way through his speech, & I am an extremely emotional person (I cry during television commercials) so I was completely bawling. However, I did manage to say yes & grab the ring! There weren't fireworks or champagne, but it was still very special.

Deadheadbelle, I think you are wrong. There may not have been champagne, but I bet there were fireworks. I'm still wiping the tears out of my eyes. Thanks for sharing. how very special. have you been back to your special spot??:lovestruc

We usually stop by the farm whenever we go out to his Grandmothers. She passed away this year, so I don't know when we'll go again.:(

Throw in some Whoppers & a Cherry Coke & I'm in, too.

See you at Typhoon Lagoon...

Just got here, so sorry I'm late. I didn't know it was opening day!?! Is this it or is there going to be a "GRAND" opening in a few days?

Anyway, I stopped by the old place one last time, had to catch up on the last couple pages. I turned off the lights and I found a whole bunch of stuff. You can rummage through the box and see if anything belongs to you, I think I know who some of things should go to, but some have left me puzzled. I posted the complete list on the last page of the old thread. So sad leaving, I get so easily attached.

So, this place is niiiiiiiiccccccceeee.:cool2: Very roomy. Should hold us for a while.:jumping1:

I read all the pages, you've guys have been very busy today. All I can say for my absence is - so has my baby!:Pinkbounc She's driving me crazy today. It's a good thing she's so cute or I'd have to get rid of her.;)

So much love in the air!:lovestruc . I'll tell my story sometime, more teenage tragedy than romance, but there's a little bit of everything in my story. Action, adventure, law-breaking, all that good stuff.

Gotta run, baby Ella wants her mommy again.

Off to do Sam's hair for the competition tomarrow night. Last week it took me over two hours and 120 curlers. They are doing things a litle more difficult this week, besides curls there will be twists. I am no hair artist!! Help!!

HuggaBaloo, they don't allow drinks on the slides, but I can sneak one before we get on...

deadheadbelle, Of Course, I'll get a sticker and refill my mug with Coke-A-Cola!!!

llebrekniT, We like Trgedy, as long as it works out in the end ;)

(look at my countdown!!!!!, I wonder if I will get to see any of the fires?)

Nephosaurus - my story does have a happy ending, but it is a long story and you'll have to wait until babyElla takes a good nap to hear it.

Cheeringmom - were any of the items I found yours? I am by no means in the same league(no pun intended) as you when it comes to cheerleading, but I had to do DD-6 hair for her cheer conference last year and I learned that they get those really tight curls by using a small wand curling iron and then spraying it with setting gel while you're baking it. Terrible thing to do to someone, but it works.;) Twists? You're on your own their. I think you can buy them at Claire's Boutiques and just attach them. No kidding, a friend of mine got some and put them in her pony tail and it looked really cute. (She's 7 years older than me and very trendy, it really did look neat.)

BTW - I forgot I found something else. I had shoved them in my pocket. Does anyone know who would have left about a dozen or so sticky-sticks from Mickey bars under the sofa? Disgusting habit. But then, I never could find the trash can in the old joint either. Anyway, I'll hold onto them just in case someone wants to claim them. If not, one of the kids can build something with them.

Ohanafamily - I don't know if this tommy-gun full of pixie dust has much power against fire, I could probably check with my DS, he knows all about what beats what from his studies of Pokemon. Anyway, here goes

I don't want to pull out the extra-large tommy gun, I'm afraid it might actually make it worse. We had this same situation on one of our trips to WDW when Florida was burning a few years ago. You could smell the smoke, but it wasn't too bad. I hope for your sake and everyone else, that it gets better out there very soon.

depplyinluv, take lots of time in finding someone to get mushy over. High school goes so quick. Next thing you know college is over, you're married. All of a sudden you are walking around the house with frown lines and mumbling incoherently (sp?) about death to the next person who leaves a piece of dirty laundry on the floor. ;)

Tinkbackwards, thanks for going through the dustballs and dirty socks that were left all over the floor at the old place and taking an inventory. (BTW, you are toooooo funny!)

Okay, I've been waiting for a new question, and since no one else has come forward, I will :teeth: .

In honor of all the :lovestruc going on around here:

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FIRST LOVE

Now, I'm not talking about your first crush or puppy love, I'm talking about the REAL thing. I'll go first :teeth: .

I was 19 years old when I met my first love. It was the summer of 1984. The year of Peter Pan boots, big hair and apparel that had lots of snaps and zippers. I decided to go on a road trip with a few friends to a small town in Massachusetts to visit some dude named "Jeff". There he was. Smoking a clove cigarette in his preppy tan pleated pants and skinny leather tie. Sighhhhh.

The long distance romance lasted a beautiful five months. Sighhhh. He'd make drive to Syracuse about every other weekend. He was a DJ at his college radio station and opened my eyes to his beautiful music. I considered Haircut 100's "Love Plus One" to be our song--I'm sorry. I can't go on. I'm verklempft. Speak amongst yourselves. Here's a topic--Cyndy Lauper -- Why is she so unusual?

 Hi everyone!

Rick I sure hope you post a link here to your trip report(s). I try not to venture over to that board very often. (I tend to spend way too much time over there!)

Jr. wants to know if we can come up for the ceremony in 2 years? You made me get all sniffy reading your post. Glad it all came together so well.

I can't remember exactly what Mishell said about Rick and Joe but they do make a wonderful couple and look great together. Their costumes were awesome too!

oh man, I can't answer this one either! (See, you're not alone my young friend). Plenty of SERIOUS crushes, once had someone stalking me.....had a 'relationship' just for fun.....but have yet to find reciprocal love. But I, too, am a Hopeful Romantic and won't give up on the possibilities.::yes::

Ok Barb and Nephosaurus too, here it is.

My first love:lovestruc. It was the summer of 1984, I was 15 and had just finished my freshman year of HS. I had become good friends with a boy in my science class, he was the class clown, a funny guy but not the kind of guy I would usually "like". Anyway, after school ended I missed talking to him everyday, so we started to talk a lot over the phone. One day he asked if I was going to the fair and before I know it the words "I was hoping you were going to give me a ride" came out. I don't think I really knew that I "liked" him at the point.

I was not allowed to date or even have a boyfriend, but my best friend and her mother were my cover. I met him at her house, just down the street from my house. We had so much fun at the fair, so we went the next night. Then a movie date, a few walks, visits at my friends house and it really started hitting me hard. I think it was 3 weeks before he kissed me and he was so nervous about it. Not long after came the "I love you's". Every date was sneaking around, because my dad would never let me go. My parents eventually caught on that I had a boyfriend, but assumed we just talked on the phone. On my 16th birthday they let him come over for dinner and a few months later we got to go on our "first" date, the prom. At that point we had really been together about 9 months. Dad fussed a bunch, but Mom talked him into it.

Dad was still head-strong that I not date and decided I was too serious with this boy. He forbid me to talk to him, see him at school or anything. He had learned about the sneaking around, so of course he didn't trust me at all anymore. I was basically put under house arrest. Not allowed to go anywhere except my part-time job (it was summer again now). No phone calls and I couldn't even go outside without a parent. There was even talk of sending me to live with relatives in North Carolina. We tearfully made a pact that if they sent me away somewhere, we would meet on the day of my 18th birthday on the steps of the library in our town. We had been together more than a year now and were very much in love. I don't think I could put into words how awful it really was. Dad can be quite psycho.

I was a very miserable 16 year old girl. Completely shut off from not only him, but the world. But we were smart, we found ways to at least talk. He bought walkie-talkies, snuck one into a bush in our yard where I retrieved it and we would talk in the middle of the night. We began planning to run away. First it was going to be Canada, then Florida and finally decided on California. About 2 months into this, we emptied our savings accounts, bought the plane tickets and flew to San Francisco as David and Liza Jones (our alias's). He was 18, I was 16. That's the law-breaking part.

It was a scary trip. Got off the plane, took a bus that dropped us in the middle of it all. I don't want to offend here, but there were boys kissing boys and girls groping girls. I was shocked! Mind you I was a very naive 16 year old girl who was raised in a small town in KY. Back on the bus we go, we had very limited funds and there went $25 down the drain. Back to the airport and this time, called some hotels and got a courtesy shuttle.

San Francisco was rainy and blah. We thought CA was sunny and fun?!? Next morning, booked a plane down to Long Beach. Now this was much better. But money was running very short. Long story short (yeah right, too late for that, but you asked, remember?) his family had a friend who had a sister who lived there. But she was away for the weekend on boyfriends boat. So we stayed at the City Center motel, not a very nice joint, but the price was right. We went to the beach and since I had been under house arrest and hadn't seen the sun in months, I got the worst sunburn of my life!

Friend's sister finally comes home, picks us up at hotel and we stay with her on the beach. Very nice.:D Calls her lawyer friend who says "get those kids back home pronto". "But we want to go to Disneyland first!" we say. Honest to God truth.

Back on a plane, we split ways in Chicago, he to Detroit, me back to Lexington. There was an 18 state APB out for his arrest. His parents took me home. After things calmed down, he came back and had to turn himself in.

Things didn't get much better, but some. I had to go to juvenile court. Apparently it's against the law to run away from home. His charges were dropped because we told the police and my parents that we had been camping 5 miles away the whole time. But I had to go to counseling for a while, my probation.

At 17, they allowed us to date. After I graduated, Dad stated that I had to choose "the boy" or him. They almost got into a regular fist fight. I jumped into the car with "the boy" and didn't look back.

I was 18 then, but we didn't get married for almost another year. Dad still didn't want anything to do with him, so my grandfather gave me away. My parents did come though. Such a sad feeling on what is supposed to be my happiest day. Small church, no music, no flowers or pretty dress. Just a few close friends and family. We had very little money to spend on a wedding, his parents had a small reception for us at their house and we had a one night honeymoon at a nice hotel. We were so happy to finally be married!

Things changed when my mom's dad died a few months later. We finally talked and s-l-o-w-l-y worked it out.

We have now been married 15 years, coming up on 20 years as a couple. We have three of the most beautiful children on Earth and get this - my dad and my hubby are the very best of friends! We have endured.

So, there's my sad, tragic, but happily-ever-after story and it's also the story of my first love at the same time.

That should put you to sleep!;)

llebrekniT, that is an amazing story. Your DH must be pretty special to be able to have a good relationship with your Dad after all he put you through! Too bad you didn't get to go to Disneyland! ;)

Ok folks, let's lighten it up a bit....deadheadbelle's first love? Jerry Garcia? Bob Weir? No and no. deadheadbelle's first love was JIM MCMAHON. Yes, the quarterback for the superbowl champion Chicago Bears. The year was 1986. I have always loved sports, especially football. From the time I saw Jim McMahon it was love at first sight (through the television, of course). I bought everything Jim McMahon that I could. His book (which I still own), a calendar of the team called "Bear but not Naked" (they were all dressed in suits), and multiple posters (the best one being one my cousin who lived in Chicago sent me that was called "Chicago Vice" & featured Jim McMahon & Walter Payton dressed as "Crockett & Tubbs" from "Miami Vice"--the cheese factor on this poster was unbelievable!). My senior year in high shool, I wrote my term paper on him. Yes, folks, I was in love. Just so you know, I saw him once in person. The summer after my freshman year in college, I went to the Kentucky Derby with some friends. Being poor college students, we could not afford actual seats, so we sat in the infield, which is just a giant party (most people who go to the infield don't see a single horse the entire day). Anyway, I knew Jim McMahon was going to be there (no I wasn't stalking, I had read it in the paper earlier in the week), but he would not be sitting where we were, he would be in Millionaire's row. After the last race, we headed for the exit & as I carried our empty cooler through the crowd, I looked up & there he was.....HOLY COW, I thought I would die. I had imagined our first meeting thousands of times, but somehow none of my fantasies came true. I dropped the cooler I was carrying & started to cry. Can you say "LOSER?" I sat down on the cooler, which everyone behind me really appreciated, but I didn't care, I could not walk. He continued walking away & I got up picked up my cooler & continued on my way.

So, there you have it.

Have a great night everyone. Here's hoping we all wake up tomorrow with shiny, new tags...
