The Most Expensive Free Trip Ever - TR Link is Up! Pg. 164

Your pan shot looks awesome! Going to get my rum now. pirate:

You will obviously have no problem walking the deck.

No really! It does look fun; I'll have to see if I can work on some panoramic shots, but uploading software scares me.

It usually is pretty easy, just click "I accept" (even though I didn't read) and "next", but for some reason it crashed and burned a couple of times.

Your biking/hiking/cooking trip looked like great fun!! The scenery was something I could lose myself in! I especially like seeing that little abandoned house just ahead of the boys. Reminded me of the Movie Fried Green Tomatoes a little.

If you liked that house, then you'd probably like this one that I hadn't included previously. This was also taken along the trail.

Given a choice, I'd be there for ravioli night. ;) I'd love to be babysat by your kids, though on pizza night. They seem like good kids, but I'm sure we could cook up some trouble, though.

They probably wouldn't let you get too deep into trouble.

drinking rum to look at the picture but did not nothing different to it, so i guess i need more rum.

....

yep now it looks like a great picture.

:thumbsup2

I know how the urge to buy can get a hold of you. But remember, there's no rush. You can even rent points here on the DIS, under the DVC threads. We got some "developer" points when we bought, as an incentive, but we couldn't use them at the time so I found somebody on those threads to rent them from us. It worked out great for both them and us. Or, you can look at the resale market and maybe buy a small contract (ie. smaller than Disney's minimum buy-in) and through banking and borrowing you could go every couple of years, and add-on more points when you're able to. Just some thoughts...I wasn't really aware of all of these options when we bought, not that I regret it though.

So many options...so little money!

I'd have to be tied-up for that to happen. Like something out of "9 to 5".

That was a great movie too!

I couldn't get the wildflower picture to copy (still don't really know how to do the quotee thingy) but, this is what our "yard" looks like when it hasn't been mowed in a couple weeks. We have what Texas realtors like to call "natural brush". Which REALLY means 5 acres of overgrown bushes, weeds & wildflowers that all manner of creatures like to call home.

Now I know why all the rum is gone!

:rotfl2: Hey, isn't it a workday?

"Natural brush" does sound like a selling point! You've gotta watch out for those realtor descriptions. They know all of the phrases to use. "Handyman's Special" is just the tip of the iceberg!

Now I know why all the rum is gone!

:rotfl2: Nice PotC reference!

what a fun outing! 12miles is a great length for that age, I was hoping we'd do something like that on Memorial day with the boys but Jeff decided to buy a kayak!

So I guess that's what we are doing.

deck pic is cool, even if the deck is a bit crooked!

I might have to download that program one of these days, it would be fun to try (in all my free time)

So I guess that's what we are doing.

We learned last year that 22 miles was too long, so we mixed it up this year with a shorter bike trip and adding-in a hike.

Kayaking could be good. I saw on your thread that you went hiking too last weekend.

deck pic is cool, even if the deck is a bit crooked!

I'd like to blame it on the previous owner. I can always tell when I run across something he was involved in -- no two pieces of hardware are the same (like different sized screws and even a spike nail used for a toilet paper roll holder) and it's screwed-up somehow.

I might have to download that program one of these days, it would be fun to try (in all my free time)

:rotfl:

Tell Jeff he could take a panoramic picture of his seaplane and it'll get done.

Then we drove to Trough Creek State Park to do some hiking. We took a couple-mile hike up and down a mountain. Unfortunately, it was kind of rainy so I didn't want to take my expensive camera along. It was a shame because we went across a really cool suspension bridge, and saw some beautiful waterfalls.

I did take this picture from a bridge close to where we cooked dinner at the park though.

Wow! Superb picture :thumbsup2 And what a beautiful place!

One of the things on my pre-trip "To Do" list was to download the Windows Live Photo Gallery software and try a test run at making a panoramic photo, like the many panoramics which appeared in Great Biscuit's trip report. Link to Biscuit's Grand Adventure Thanks GB for pointing me in the direction of this software!
Thanks for the shout out Glenn! Happy to be of service.

A few weeks ago, after about 3 attempts, I got the software installed. I'm not sure why I had problems, but that really was the hardest step in the whole process. Then I went and sat on my deck and took 8 pictures of my backyard, 4 left-to-right covering about horizon-level and up, and 4 left-to-right covering the horizon-level and down.

After camping with James and a group of dads and boys from church this weekend, I needed to download all of the photos from my camera and after doing that, I decided to try out the software to "stitch" the panorama together.
Welcome to the dark side my friend. :darth: There is no going back.

Here's the end-result. The deck looks like it belongs in a fun-house, and you'd have to be a drunken sailor to walk across it, but overall I think the picture turned out pretty cool. I think that to get it to look better I need to take even more pictures than 8. Hmmm, I better look into extra memory cards.
Great job! I like it! The distortion effects can do weird stuff. I tried a couple in Town Square on our last day and they wound up so out of whack that I couldn’t use them. I’ve also found that the smaller the area you are trying to capture and closer you are the subject, the worse the distortion becomes. Can’t wait to see the photos from your trip!

That photo ROCKS bro! Awesome job!

yah
:confused3 i get a lunch break, JK

Hey, from what I understand lunch breaks could be like that in the old days. But I knew you were kidding.

Thank you!

Central Pennsylvania my friend. Near Penn State!

Thanks for the shout out Glenn! Happy to be of service.

You're welcome!

My memory card will be so full it'll bulge and get stuck in the camera.

Oh yeah -- I bet it's the closeness that really causes the distortion. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Oh, hey GB....do you crop them then to get rid of the black around the edges?

That photo ROCKS bro! Awesome job!

Thank you. I could see the bridge from the pavilion where we were cooking dinner and I thought I'd walk down and check it out. When I got there and saw the view, I pretty much ran back to get my camera before it got any darker.

:rotfl2: But seriously... it does look pretty darn good for your first try!

And we saw monoliths

I just about peed my pants (well not really... but I did get excited) when you mentioned monoliths. What I thought you meant were the black rectangular monoliths from 2001: A Space Odyssey. That is, until I scrolled down and saw the picture of a giant rock instead. My mistake :rolleyes1

That camping trip looks like it was super fun! I'll have to write a post about our horseback riding trail adventure we had today.

Now I have those trumpets and kettle drums from that theme song going through my head. It was a fun trip, but nothing quite that dramatic!

I think we could all learn a few lessons from you, Glenn! :lmao:

You will obviously have no problem walking the deck.

Probably not! But hey, that's better than walking the plank.

It usually is pretty easy, just click "I accept" (even though I didn't read) and "next", but for some reason it crashed and burned a couple of times.

With my horrible luck with installing software, I'd likely crash it and burn it even beyond my DHs computer prowess.

If you liked that house, then you'd probably like this one that I hadn't included previously. This was also taken along the trail.

:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9: I could live in a place like that forever. Given running water, electricity and a clean sewer line. :lmao:

They probably wouldn't let you get too deep into trouble.

So then, you're saying the rum is out? :confused3

Oh, hey GB....do you crop them then to get rid of the black around the edges?
Indeed. However, I usually don't crop them in Windows Live Photo as it will, more often than not, come up and say the file is too big to open.

Which is gal dern confublating seeing as how the goofy program was the one what created the goofy thing in the furst place. How you gonna stitch it all up and then say it's too dang big? If it was too big ta shrink, why wasn't it too big to create? It just don't make a bit o' lick a sense. (Sorry...I had some BBQ today and there was some residual Texan creeping out there.)

Anyway, I edit them with Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Which apparently is the division of Microsoft that was approved to handle unnaturally large photographic collages.

And of course James located a stick to keep as a souvenir.

Looks like the young Padawan just wanted to put in some additional work on his light saber skills.

Great pictures and looks like a really cool place. Wish it was close enough to take our scouts.

:rotfl: It is cool, though! :thumbsup2

And since I mentioned our camping trip, I'll throw in a few pictures from that. We were around Raystown Lake, which is in south-central PA.
Beautiful! I'm originally from Western NY and I miss all that green wood-y-ness sometimes. We have green here in FL, but it's different, somehow.

I think we could all learn a few lessons from you, Glenn! :lmao:

Sometimes I know how to get things done. ;)

Probably not! But hey, that's better than walking the plank.

We can arrange that. :rolleyes1

With my horrible luck with installing software, I'd likely crash it and burn it even beyond my DHs computer prowess.

It might be a little risky, given your remoteness. If you want, I could call the "Geek Squad" at my local Best Buy store and ask them if they do housecallls on the Steppe.

:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9: I could live in a place like that forever. Given running water, electricity and a clean sewer line. :lmao:

And it's right on this biking/walking/jogging trail which is so nice that you could be miles down the road before you realize that you're still wearing your slippers.

So then, you're saying the rum is out? :confused3

Darn kids.

Since I don't speak Texan, I went looking for an online translator. Unfortunately, I selected to have your paragraph translated into the "King's English" and I think it went overboard. Whattayou think?:

"Which is particularly exasperating considering that the ridiculous program was the one who spawned the puerile item firstly. In what manner will you render it together and then declare it excessively elephantine? If it was inordinately herculean to condense, by what reason was it not overly prodigious to effectuate? It is without even a mite of prudence."

Looks like the young Padawan just wanted to put in some additional work on his light saber skills.

If we ever go back to fighting with swords rather than computer-controlled humanless drones, he'll be ready.

Great pictures and looks like a really cool place. Wish it was close enough to take our scouts.

It's almost not close enough for us....it's about a 4-hour drive. Earlier in the year we kind of had a hard time deciding whether to do it again or not, but we had a good time this weekend so we're already talking about "next year".

:rotfl: It is cool, though! :thumbsup2

Thank you. It'll be interesting to see what I get at Disney. Not even sure what I'll attempt yet, probably the savanna from my balcony, but other than that I don't know.

Beautiful! I'm originally from Western NY and I miss all that green wood-y-ness sometimes. We have green here in FL, but it's different, somehow.

We lived in coastal North Carolina for a while and it was kind of strange to come back to this area and see the colors.

Cool pic of your deck.

Great pic of scenery. I don't get to see pics like that in FL. 12 miles on a bike. I don't think that I could do that and I know that I certainly couldn't do 22.

That was AWESOME dude! Thanks for the morning laugh.
