I had a question for the Lord of the Rings book fans who saw Peter Jacksons films. Do you think Peter Jackson made a good move by taking the Minas Morgul scene from the Two Towers and moving it to the Return of the King ? I think it made a lot of sense as that part of the story takes place long after Saruman has been cast down.
I guess it's one of those things where in the books it's better in the Two Towers, but in the movies it worked better in Return of the King. One of the things that I enjoyed the most when reading the Lord of the Rings was when Frodo comes to the terrible city of Minas Morgul. I was wondering what the Minas Morgul part would be like in the movies. Now the Minas Morgul scene in the movie was a little different than it was in the book, but I still enjoyed the Minas Morgul scene from the movie.
One of the things about this part of the story that I find interesting is when Frodo had a desire to run to the gates of the Tower of Minas Morgul. I mean if anything you would think that Frodo would want to run as fast as he could away from the Tower of Minas Morgul and that he would have no desire to go near the Tower. In fact even if it was someone who did not have the ring and someone who was not with anyone who had the ring it seems like all they have to do is just look at the Tower of Minas Morgul and that should be more than enough to tell them that they better turn around and get as far away from that Tower as they can. But Frodo did have the ring which put him in far greater danger.
I really felt this part of the story did show the power of evil with the way Frodo had a desire to run to the gates of the Tower. I also felt it showed the power of good, because Frodo is a hobbit who is about 3 feet tall and in the end he did not give in to the intense powers of evil he did not run to the gates of the tower.
Also when the Lord of the City came out with his great host Frodo felt pressure again and this time he felt the command to put on the ring, but Frodo did not give in. I mean yes Frodo knew that he did not have the power to face the Lord of the City as he was only a simple hobbit, but that is one of the neat things it's like in this case it's almost better to not be a powerful Gandalf because that way it's more easy for you to see that you better not use the ring right now.
Now if Gandalf had been there what would he do ? In the Two Towers book Gandalf said let us be glad that the ring has gone beyond our reach and that we can no longer be tempted to use it. I would like to think that Gandalf would not have used the Ring, but since Gandalf was so much more powerful than Frodo I believe that it would have been harder for Gandalf than it was for Frodo.
This part of the story was like a battle, but not a battle with swords, but a battle with the will of evil and the will of good and in this case a simple hobbit won the battle against the intense forces of evil. It's also interesting because the Lord of the City was so close to the ring. There are 9 Ring-Wraiths and the Lord of the City was the greatest of the 9 and he was Saurons most powerful servant he was the Lord of the Nazgul. If the Lord of the City could have just got the Ring then Sauron would have won. It's amazing as powerful as the Lord of the Nazgul was he was not able to get the ring when it was so close to him and he had an army to back him up and only Frodo,Sam and Gollum to deal with.
Anyways for those of you who have read the book and seen the movie where you happy with the way the scene played out in the movie ? In the movie when the lighting flashes in Minas Morgul, well I thought that was awesome. The lighting flashes seemed more intense in the book, but I did not expect the movie to be as good as the book.
