Lunch With Captain Dan - Eat Your Heart Out Melly - and the Sights of the City - Part 3 of 3

After a fantastic nights sleep on those dreamy beds with the city that doesn’t sleep right outside my window, the first stop today is St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Bridget and I pay homage to our patron saints – St. Patrick and St. Brigid. The Cathedral is a monument onto itself and brings inner peace and serenity to all who cross the threshold. Wonder which Maelstromer I thought of here??

Rockefeller Center and and Radio City are next. An aside here, with apologies to any Today Show watchers. Katie Couric, in this reporters esteemed opinion- not a fastpass. I was sorry to see the ice skating rink gone and an outdoor café in its place. But, as Bridget reminded me, they can’t have an outdoor skating rink when it’s not winter, duh. Who’s the smartie now?? Gotta love your teens. If you can keep your sanity through it, they do come out the other side as fine, loving contributors to our society. Even if they are a pain in the behind at times.

Lunch with Captain Dan at Bubba Gumps. Eat your heart out Melly. There was quite a collection of memorabilla from movie. Call sheets, photos and costumes. I was a little miffed, though, when I placed my order. First I ordered the Shrimp Shack Pasta. No can do. It’s not on our menu anymore. Then I tried the Penne Pasta with Shrimp and Scallops. No can do – we’re all out of shrimp. Hello- this is Bubba Gumps. SHRIMP FACTORY?? Heck, shrimp is the fruit of the sea, just go out and pick some more! Would you believe I ended up eating a cheeseburger and fries? At Bubba Gumps. SHRIMP FACTORY?! And by the way, Zzub?? My waiters nametag… Bubba Helpershoes. A relation to Susie by chance? I did see him consulting the register journal. That’s when I knew for sure there’d be no fruit of the sea for me.

Battery Park and a peek at Lady Liberty up next on this fine day. The weather is gorgeous and it’s great to be out and about. I love Battery Park and pause to reflect at the East Coast Memorial which features eight 19-foot-high granite walls, or pylons, inscribed with the name, rank, and home state of 4,601 servicemen who lost their lives in the Atlantic Ocean during World War II.

Our last stop before we hit the road for the return trip was the site of the World Trade Center. It is both painfully haunting and wistfully hopeful. Like most New Yorkers I know, my BIL won’t speak of it much. Gone, but not forgotten, and may God have mercy on my soul, not forgiven. In all my days I will never comprehend the utter lack of regard for human life. Ever. And I hope that sentiment, gone, but not forgotten, will be reflected in whatever they eventually agree to do at that site. Reflection there makes you thank God for what you’ve got and quit yer bellyaching about what you don’t. And hold your loved ones close. For the future is uncertain, and can’t be forseen.

I was really MAD at Dr. McDreamy too...he was just being a JERK because his conversations with Addison McSnarkypants weren't nearly as fabulous as his conversations with Meredith...and by conversations...well you know what I mean. He was her lobster and he wasted it...and now she's on to Dr. McPuppypants...so THERE moody McDreamy!!

I really like cantalope...and honeydew melon...in salads...with watermelon...OH and mangos...love mangos too...just thought I'd share!! ;)

I did not eat pasta. I attempted to eat pasta. What happens on vacation stays on vacation!

Shersher - thanks for the fabo trip report. Sounds like a great trip, glad you brought the rest of us along! I would say to post a pic of your little black number, but, well, maybe that wouldn't be a good idea? :confused3

Oh deary me, it would not be a fastpass for Mel to come back from her Mother's Day trip to the World and find her thread locked up...

oh bother, as Pooh would say
or is that

rehtob ho, as hooP would say?

I'm confused, twitterpated, pixilated....erm, touched, touche-d, umm I know the right word is out there somewhere...

What was I saying, oh yes, I hope that Mel comes back to find all is well in the Maelstrom... or is that Melstrom... Mellystrom? hmmmm good question!

LaLaaaa, help me out here. puuhhleeez?!

is it wrong that I told my soon2b step kids that there is an invisible bear in our basement? And when I kiss them good night I say "good night, sleep tight, don't let the invisible bear bite"...is that wrong? ;) The kids think it's terribly funny...we blame things on the invisible bear...WE had an invisible bear in OUR basement when I was little...too bad he didn't eat that evil babysitter...I used to whisper down the basement stairs that there was a REALLY big meal for him if he'd just come upstairs to fiiiiind it!!! :lmao:

did everyone have a good mother's day?!

Maelstrom, friends! It's been a lovely TN Mother's Day here, too. After church DS12 and I went to see "Akeelah and the Bee." What a fabulous movie!! I cried, like Grammy will when she sees it. Then DH cooked us a delicious-a dinner complete with steak and chicken kebabs. DS6 announced he felt like we were at Ohana but there was no big fire. DS12 drew me some great Dis-characters and had them 'saying' things like 'You're the very best Mom', etc. OK, that's all the news from here.

Sheridac, I loved reading about the Big Apple. It is oh-so-far from us but I wish I could go once a month. Or once a year. Heck, even once a decade would be a step up.

Horsegirl, hope you had a great horsey ride on your pretty pretty farm.

We are so good together; let's not break up or close down because of potty words.
We can talk DIS and kids and work and family and diets and spices and Vikings and reality TV and wardrobe and travel and spouses and decorating and cooking and homebuilding and heartbreak and healing and weather and exercise and politics and avatars and religion and school and...and...and...

See? The 'not' will be easy.

...it's a fastpass.

Jamal-

:thumbsup2 You've got it!

Nix the potty words and sex talk, and it'll all be good! Sure leaves a lot of great topics for friends to discuss. :sunny:

Happy Mother's Day Maelstrom Ladies!

I hope y'all had a great Mother's Day. From the way many of you describe your families, I'm sure you're great moms and deserve royal treatment today and everyday. Just remember, the reward you receive for being a good mom isn't realized on this day; it's realized later when the fruit of your hard work is borne out by a son who stops to help a lady whose husband just had a seizure and a daugther who loves her so-called step children as much as her own. For all of the good moms who read this thread: :moped: and :3dglasses I don't know what this one means either but I like how it looks.

LaLa: I saw what you posted on your trip report. That was nice. This mutual admiration society can go on forever. And with any luck it will. See you on the waterslide. NOTE TO MODERATORS: That is not a sexual innuendo or a double entendre, please read our Trip Reports before you decide that was in any way inappropriate.

Horsegirl: I also saw the note you posted on your trip report. You'd called me a gem once before and I thought it was nice. Now that I know what that word means to you, well, I'm flattered. Fathers and daughters. I tell my little girl all the time she's "the one." She told me the other day I was her "best bug buddy." I think this is from some show she watches on Noggin.

Sheridac: Sounds like you had fun in NYC. It's no surprise that Bubba Helpershoes was useless. Anyone with that name is steeped in irony. Flippin register journal.

We watched Naploeon Dynamite again the other night. That movie is still so freakin funny. It kills me that the grandmother makes a caserole for the llama but tells Napoleon to make himself "a dang ka-sa-dilla." Nice.

Peace out. :3dglasses

REALLY???

I am mad at him actually

I think what she said BACK was better than what he said to her actually

he's just jealous...

Well I also loved her response to him --- I was just sick of them both acting in love when they (well, HE) had decided that they weren't going to be together.

OMG -- Can I just call you M's?

Zzub!! You have to tell us what happened with the Mother's Day gift!! (or did you tell us and I somehow missed it?)

I hope everyone had a lovely day!!!
