The Loss of Cartoons

Ok so yesterday a leak happened at Cartoon Networks offices and basically people are saying that Cartoon Network will be changing there name, to something that will encourage there viewers to watch there live action shows. This was supposed to be a retaliation to the fact that said shows have bombed in the rattings.

Ok thats not exactly Disney Related, but for me this all started when Toon Disney premiered and all of the sudden there was no cartoons on Disney Channel. Things like Hahanna Montana and High School Musical began to rain supreme. Soon Nickelodeon caught on and now Cartoons are even dwindling from existence on there own network.

Im tired of this. Childrens Sitcoms most of the time IMO are not appropriate for the kids that are watching them. There not intresting or creative and there all cookie cutter.

My little sister has to go out of her way to watch cartoons either by doing it on the internet or by buying dvds thats just Silly. Bring back Cartoons I say.

Now that youve listened to my rant.
What do you think about the extinction of cartoons?

I hardly ever watch television anymore, but I do miss the "old" Disney Channel. It used to be that over the course of any given day one could see the original black & white Disney cartoons, the older color Disney cartoons, maybe an episode or 2 of "World of Disney" from back in the day, documentaries on various Disney parks, the original Mickey Mouse Club, and any number of things that to see now one must purchase on DVD in order to watch. Sure, the new "live action" preteen shows get viewers, there is obviously a HUGE audience for that sort of thing, but I really miss being able to see the older Disney cartoons/movies/etc. on the Disney Channel.

I confess the only thing I watch on Cartoon Network,is Robot Chicken.
Unless the grand-kids are here.

I know how they can increase their ratings.WWE wrestling.Heck,it's darn near every other channel

We don't subscribe to tv but at the grandparents' house our boys always liked Boomarang. It shows old tv shows from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. It is fun to see some obscure cartoon and recognize it.

It sure would be cool for someone to show some of those old Disney shows. The World of Disney, old Mickey Mouse Club, etc. How about on dvd?

I love cartoons. Even as a 22 year old I just love animation. I have never really cared for the cartoons on Cartoon Network (I do love Adult Swim though). Everything I did like that they showed, they don't show anymore. I've noticed they've been showing live actions movies (like Nacho Libre) and they're going to have some other live action reality shows soon.

And now Disney got rid of Toon Disney and replaced it with Disney XD, they no longer show House of Mouse.

Nick hasn't come out with a good cartoon in awhile either. I miss their old stuff.

I know I was totally saddened when that happened (TD turning in to DXD). I love animation I've always admired the art of animation. Its one of the things America invented and should be proud of and instead were swipping it under the rug. I feel like if theres no animation then what was the point of what walt achieved in the field of animaton?

The only cartoons Ive seen come out recently was Phineas and Pherb, which is awesome, and Flapjack and Chowder, both of which are on the chopping block because of CN's new name change.

I feel just so powerless when it comes to this. The little kid sitcoms are not apropriate for little girls and boys IMO. The kids in these shows are in high school under EXTRODINARY circumstances, and I just dont think the kids watching there shows need to be worried about the same things Boys dating etc.

For example when I went to Comic Con last year I took my little sister to see a panel featuring The peanuts gang, actors and people who helped Schulz wirte it. The little girl sitting next clearly didnt know who the characters were and kept asking her mom which characters where dateing who..."is Charlie brown dating lucy?"

I just miss the creativity of cartoons. Cartoons are part of American history and should continue to be embraced and not swept behind cheap live action kidy sitcoms.

I cant wait for Frog princess not only because its Disney, but because its Animated.

Most of the cartoons on CN are not appropriate for my kids so we rarely watch it. Toon Disney is no longer, its DisneyXD (aimed at boys). We watch a lot of Sprout (PBS's cable channel) and Noggin (Nick Jr. shows and others aimed at preschoolers). I hate summer time because Nick and Disney switch from their preschool shows to regular Disney/Nick at 10 am. We really like Pheneus and Ferb, Spongebob, and Fairly Oddparents, but only my oldest (DD7) likes any of the live action shows.
