The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

I hate to go back to a controversial topic (the election) ;)

But does this bother anyone? They appear to be "enticing" the super delegates to vote for them?

From Talking Points Memo:

Me thinks they are gonna Take the MI & FL & Superdelagates, and split them 50/50!

What else can be done!:confused3 Very Messy!

That wouldn't get them too far if neither can still come to 2025 which is just what this is shaping up to look like....

I can't imagine either candidate dropping out so it will probably come down to the superdelegates. If they go against the pledged delegates, Denver will be mass hysteria.

They should get rid of the Superdelegates. Leave it up the voters.

But the question is, what to do with the Florida & Michigan delegates in the first place where not everyone's names were on the ballot.

So here's a question, using your logic..... Senator Clinton won New Jersey - today a NJ super switched from Clinton to Obama.

Should they be allowed to switch, if the candidate won the state?

And for another example - she won MA. Should Kennedy & Kerry have to vote for her?

I agree its probably going to come down to the supers, since they are splitting so many state delegations.... In my opinion, the candidates are going to have to get together with some impartial people (as impartial as they can be) to come to a conclusion that respects both candidates for the good of the party.

Also - back to the payment to the super's election coffers - doesn't that seem somehow wrong?

They can hold primaries or caucases. There is no way you can take the results of Michigan or Florida and call it fair.

I personally think this whole issue with the superdelegates is a "tempest in a teapot". There is no logical reason why the superdelegates would ignore the will of the voters and not only cause a loss in November, but the destruction of the Democratic party. Why?

the whole thing is such a mess....sometimes I wish it was already decided one way or the wother so we could move on....

and yes I do find it disturbing/wrong about the payments...

I agree 10,000%! It would make absolutely no sense for say Hillary to get the regular delegate count and then for the supers to throw it to Obama, or vice versa. Any fool knows that by doing so, it could potentially destroy party unity come November. Honestly, I think the only people who continue to foist that Superdelegate fear on us are the media (desperate for drama!) and those who think still that the Clinton's are evil incarnate (desperate for a life!), willing to do anything to win.

Very excited! Got my absentee ballot in the mail yesterday! :woohoo:

I love both candidates, but it looks like I'm voting for Obama. So if you're a Clinton supporter, now is the time to give me reasons to change my mind! :)

Double-posting here from the Hillary Thread ...

My date with Bill ...

I saw Bill Clinton speak at the University of Wisconsin today. The boy still has it :cool1:! He has quite the silver tongue, but I forgot how LONG WINDED he can be. Still, he was great :lovestruc. He spoke for 75-90 minutes and covered a lot of Hillary's views on things.

Bill was at the UW Stock Pavilion where the livestock shows are held on campus. There are pigs in the basement, sawdust on the floor and the place STINKS. It was not a very presidential place and I hope they get a better venue for Hillary. There were between 1,000 and 2,000 people there.

Anyway ... here are some pictures. I took them with my DD's camera which is not good indoors. Sorry for the blurry pictures.

Un-zoomed shot from my seat:

And here are some crowd shots while he was shaking hands. I tried to go down to see him and he ended up shaking the hands of the people around me. *sigh* So, I missed out shaking his hand.

In all, a great speech and it did it's job. I am now officially on the fence. Gotta dig up a Clinton thing-y for my signature. At least until next Wednesday, LOL!

I also pulled the Obama pictures off my camera at the same time. I'll post them later today.

I saw Bill in London in 1995, very briefly. I was in the UK studying abroad. He had made a speech to Parliament--I watched that on TV, then took the Tube to Westminster where I saw him come out of the building with John Major and get into a car. I was in a small crowd of people cheering for him. He waved; I thought it was pretty cool. It's still the only time I've seen a President (present or former) or even a Presidential candidate in person. Kinda funny that it happened in another country.

It was nice to see how well respected Bill Clinton was by the Brits when I was in London. I'm sure I can imagine how Dubya is thought of. :rotfl:

One more...NOT too thrilled that during his first session as a Senator he missed 40% of the votes.:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: ...and then uses Hillarys voting record against her. Rather shifty too me!

Thanks! Anyone else want to try to sway me? :teacher: And fellow Obama supporters can chime in and tell me why I should stick to my choice! :)

I'm really glad my vote's counting this time. In '04 it was pretty much decided for Kerry by the time Ohio's primary rolled around.

That was funny - given all the wacky stuff going around.......

On a serious note - I chose Clinton for her experience - especially in the national security and diplomatic arena ..........

I saw her in action after 9/11 - she was there on the ground try to right the wrongs Christie Todd Whitman was spewing.....
