The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

DN gets everything off the 'net. She gets the RSS feeds from the major newspapers across the country and keeps up on the headlines. Some of her friends have video and other updates sent to their phones. Then, there's the Daily Show. She gets a lot from there-and while I continue to remind her it's entertainment and it's not objective-she's still taking a lot from it.

The thing that I love about the Daily Show is that it does sometimes "try" to be fair and balanced. Not only do they make fun of Republicans, but they make fun of demorcrats too. And he will have Republicans on his show - McCain has been on there 11 times or something. Last night he had a very conservative columnist on and there was an interesting discussion about "success" in Iraq.

Oh, I've seen you get waist deep in some of those debate threads where I fear to tread. I'd get a much more fulfilling feeling by pounding my head into the wall for an hour or two than I would debating why someone still thinks W is the end all be all, second coming of Ronald Reagan...I salute you!

Honestly one of the reasons I am voting for Hillary is because I think her candidacy can hold up to the GOP. The whole country knows what they are gonna throw at her during the election cycle.

I truly believe that the GOP WANTS Obama to win the primaries. In all reality throughout the country, politcally speaking (not based on obamas merits ) he is a unknown. And for every person who has voted for him in the primaries, there are another 10 voters who are "on the fence" with him.
My theory is that if he gets the nomination, the GOP machine will decimate him. Now, 90%of these attacks wont even be true, but people will believe them.

If it is a McCain/Obama come Novemeber.......I really dont think we have a slam dunk. It will be very very very close.

I do think we will have a better chance with McCain/Clinton. Being they are Two very well known people in the USA. I know the polls say differently now..BUT if it is a McCain/Obama...it is going to be a all out assault like we never seen before.

How many people in this country think that Obama is a Muslim??? I bet more than not!

I will still be voting Democrat no matter what the outcome.

Why is it that you can see it, I can see it, and everyone to the left of Heinrich frickin' Himmler can see it, but the Bush huggers still just refuse to get it?!?!

Part of it has to do with the psychological commitment to their party. They are so committed (and we have it too, but not to the degree they have) that they do blindly go with the party redderick.

Truthfully, I think the GOP is in deep **** regardless of candidate, but that's just my opinion. If anything, I'm going to guarantee that we're picking up a lot more Congressional seats, which in itself will be great.

Hi everyone! I went to Obama's rally here in Madison last night at the Kohl Center which is the UW's basketball & hockey arena. It holds over 17,000 people. We got there at around 5:45 and the lines were already sooo long! At around 6:10 they opened up ONE door (I assume there was a metal detector there) but the line barely moved at all. Finally they opened up all the regular doors and we finally go into the arena by about 7:00. We would have been cold, but we were cheek-to-jowl in the line which kept us warm, LOL! We were searched one at a time. I think I would have preferred the metal detector! I went with 2 friends and brought my 8-year old DD. There were so many people there that they filled the Kohl Center and overflowed into another room which help 2,000 people!

We got a seat in the "rafters" but straight across from the stage. We brought plenty for my DD to do and I felt sorry for the other kids whose parents didn't think ahead. Obama finally came on the stage well after 8:00, but I was expecting that since one of the states (I can't remember which one) extended polling because of the weather.

The speech was good, but not one of his best. I thought his speech in October (at the Convention Center) was better, but that may have been just a proximity thing. I was 3/4 of a hockey arena away from him and all the way up last night. I was 50 feet away from him in October.

These were my favorite quotes:

"This is the new American majority," Obama went on. "This is what change looks like when it comes from the bottom up."


Anyway ... I am still looking to see Clinton this weekend. The bad news is that my DD has a 2-day swim meet and I have to work it both days. I work the computer scoring system and it's not like they can just pull anyone off the street to do it. So, I might miss her. President Bill Clinton will be in Madison tomorrow for a Valentine's present for me . I'm going to try to see him, but the Clinton website is USELESS for fining our about campaign stops. I have no clue when and where he will be. I also cannot find a local Wisconsin contract who I can email. I know this is going to sound a little snarky, but how can she pick the right people to run a county when she can't pick the right people to keep her website updated?

I figured you'd be there. I watched his speech on MSNBC. I think he was planning to say something 'more' last night but ended up waiting until today but . I'd love to see him and to see either of the Clintons.

Sure many countries cant figure that on out...[/quote]I think there are more than 5. I remember seeing a map at the Atomic Bomb museum in Hiroshima (a VERY moving experience) in August which showed graphically the countries with atomic bombs and how many each one had. I could swear there were far more than 5.

I stood at ground zero which is now a park and cried my eyes out at the Children's Memorial. It's just amazing what we did to those people.

1)People voted for Bush cause the popular belief was "You dont vote out a sitting President at time of war". It makes no sense, especially since we MUST to that now 4 years later.

2) Right before 2004 elections GAY MARRIAGE was a hot hot HOT issue. This time...notice how it isnt even a blip on the screen. A week before the elections, EVERY news org ran the video of Rosie O'Donnel & her partner walking down the Courthouse stairs in SF. Even though that had taken place in february of that year. They all ran that clip the week before the election.
This freaked people out, so they voted for Bush.


As soon as I seen the video being played over & over, I knew it was over for the Democrats right there and then.

This is OT ...

I have run the Colorado System and it is a total PITA. My trial by fire was the "open" boys 50 yard free styles. Those 18-year olds swim FAST! I finally caught up, but we had to enter the times by hand. Never again! I run the computers which takes the times from the Colorado (or the timers like you for the 25's) and actually scores the event. We print out results and awards labels. It's run because you know how your kids did before anyone else ... and I have been tempted to hide a DQ or two along the way ... but never have! It's sad to have to have to DQ your own kid.

I wasn't happy with either choice in 2004 and I know many of my family and friends weren't either. My theory has been that when you aren't happy with your choices and one of them is the incumbant-people choose the devil they know.

Like LuvDuke said, he's created a movement (Obama uber alles!! ). The momentum that Obama is building by winning all these primaries is definitely helping him in subsequent contests and because their platforms are so similar, it's turning into a popularity contest of sorts. Also, the fact that we now know that McCain's the right's dead man du jour, most Dems look at the polls, see who's "more likely" to beat McCain, and vote Obama. Love Hillary, but her campaign's chances are looking a bit grim. That being said, she's a scrapper, and I wouldn't count her out at this point of the game...

I think Hillary would've made a fine president for another time. I believe, as Kennedy said, the torch has been passed. And it passed her by. Her fatal mistake was thinking her experience alone would be enough to pass muster with the voters. She painted herself into a corner.

I'm amazed that she wasn't able to shift gears and emphasize that her experience can also be a catalyst for change. Her experience has taught her which buttons she has to push, who she had to call, how to work they system for change. She didnt' do that. And she's still making the same stump speech about experience.

I'm really encouraged that Americans are willing to take a chance again. So many people are willing to roll the dice with Obama and see what happens. Considering how this country has retreated into itself, it's almost a miracle.

Soon, there will be lines for Obama's "Laying on Hands" magic.
