But isn't it a great thing when people, especially around my age, are this energized and involved in a candidate? This primary has been a great example of our democracy, not to be too corny.

Yes & NO!

Yes, if like you and are knowledgable & aware of the issues & history of the candidates.
No, if as I think many of your generation are, not as savy to the real politics.
I just had this discussion on another thread.
I grew up in NYC during the 60/70's. We had Civic classes, Current event classes and from the time I was 12 till graduation, WE HAD to read the NYT everyday and do a daily report on any story. It was very very common for our generation to watch the news every night. This was MUST SEE TV!
Part of this was due we were being Drafted into Vietnam, and then Watergate. This no longer is the case of the majority.
Dont be lulled into a false security. They CAN come out in froves on Election day...and vote the Rebuplican candidate in. This numbers just reflect they dont care about who runs now.If I were the Republicans, I'd be scared looking at the huge enthusiasm and turnout for the Democrats..
Going from Obama's to McCain's speech last night was striking - it was as though he was addressing another AARP meeting. And there was zero diversity in that room that I saw at least.
The other day when McCain was giving his 'very foced' speach to the Partys BIG TIME conservatives...I said I wish I had the Toupe Booth there. I could rake in the BIG $$$$$$!
When they panned the room it was one bad rug after another.
That is stereotypicng...BUT still!
