I've been out all day and in radio silence. What's happening....carmegeddon??? :scared1:

There is a 10 mile stretch of the 405 that is closed this weekend. They are removing half of a bridge to widen the freeway. Essentially it has cut the valley off from the Westside. If you listened to the news media you would think that the world was coming to an end. Hospitals are using vacant winfs for their staff to use as dormitories. Police and fire are on heightened alert.

The news I heard on TV this morning was saying that people were so intimidated that most are not leaving their neighborhood. We weren't planning on leaving Long Beach until Monday morning anyways so we've been taking advantage of the numerous garage sales going on in our neighborhood.

Find anything good this morning?

Well, Fran got a ton of books by some of her favorite mystery writers. She found a lady selling books HB & SB for 25 cents each. They had a lot of common tastes, so she bought a whole box of books and the lady threw in a Trader Joes insulated grocery bag. I think we paid $9.99 for the same one when we bought it, and hers was clean! :lmao:

We got some ice trays for when our icemaker goes out intermittently, a clean coffee grinder that I can use for spices. A couple microphone stands, and a music stand. Some light fixtures to put in her father's house on the remodel and a file cabinet for the band room in Hollywood. Not bad.

*yawn* Can't say this remote outpost has heard anything about Carmaggeddon at all. Maybe the end of the world is approaching.....but we know nothing. :)

Sounds like a lot of good finds. One's trash is another's treasure.

Jay Leno was spoofing it on the tonight show because they used a traffic reporter from the morning news show we watch and they showed clips of the spoof. I'm not sure anyone outside of LA got the jokes but he did run them.

Thanks for sharing.

I bet that the detour would get you to the destination quicker than on the 405.

That wasn't the exact one, but yeah that was similar. Actually they (the media) gave us so much hype that people have been hibernating in their local neighborhoods, staying off the freeways and totally avoiding the area of the construction. Except for a few boneheads which they are arresting for trespassing.

Makes you wonder if this weekend would make people think about staying more local...

Pretty much everyone did stay home for the weekend. Traffic was the lightest it had been in forever. However, the construction company finished early and when I got out of bed they were talking about opening it back up between 11:00AM and 3PM. I've been on the DIS ever since so I don't know what happened.

Has today stayed equally calm? I was wondering if people would reverse thier actions thinking Saturday was fine so Sunday will be ok, but then crowd the roadways.
