The infamous pillow!

There's a very good reason for that price point, we may not like it, but there's a good reason for it. If it were priced at closer to cost or what people would consider "reasonable", say anywhere from $20-$70 even, a LOT more of them would find their way home in people's luggage, because compared to the other expensive things onboard, it would seem "worth" the added cost to their stateroom bill. If they sell them in the gift shop or even online for a low price, they can't really get away with charging a hefty fee for those taken illicitly from staterooms. If people knew they could get the pillow for "cheap" they wouldn't be able to keep them in staterooms and nobody would get to enjoy them. Offering them at $189, is at least giving SOME option to people who really, really, really want one, at any cost. It also keep the price point for replacement high enough to keep the majority of guests "honest".

For that price I could get a nice massage and a mani / pedi on my next cruise -

:thumbsup2 or just book another cruise onboard! :woohoo:
I'm in deep like with the pillow. I really don't mind not having one. It's one of the many little things that I look forward to seeing when I board the ship.
If my bedroom at home looked like a DCL stateroom, then the stateroom of the ship wouldn't be special, if that makes sense.

I get that its a personal preferance thing and the significance it holds to a person, but $189 for a decorative pillow is just too much. It's a pillow. I spent that amount on 2 TempurPedic Pillows and they actually help people sleep better or with medical issues.

I guess I'm crazy but I bought one of the pillows. I fell in love with it when I first saw it on the maiden voyage of the dream a couple years back so when they finally started selling them online I got one.

^------------THIS :thumbsup2

Could you imagine? The ship already has to load tons of fresh food and other provisions on board for each cruise as it is. I'm sure they don't have room to stow a couple hundred extra pillows for those that *walk*. I'm sure it's a supply/demand issue as well. The demand for the things would be ridiculous if you were able to snag it for <$50. ::yes::

You're not crazy. I am going to get one too. I personally can't understand spending $200-300 for something to hold my wallet. Everyone is different.
