So my DCL friends, I got off the Wonder less than a month ago, my stateroom bill was correct and had no surprises. (Thank goodness!)

I was surprised though to get an e-mail today offering me the chance to purchase some items I may have missed prior to leaving the ship. Low and behold, the infamous red pilow is available! Yes, for just $189.95, I too can have a fresh spanking new pillow that has graced no other head in slumber or rest.

Don't get me wrong, the memories this pillow would invoke of our maiden voyage on DCL would be awesome, but personally, I can't justify that kind of money for a decorative pillow. It's just not in my budget.

I agree with you that the price is crazy. :scared1:Maybe alot cheaper but for that price I just can't justify it.

My husband STILL wants the blue throw blanket from the Wonder cruise. I would pay 200.00 for it but I cant find it anywhere!

For that kind of money, that embroidery needs to be 24 karat gold!!! ::yes::

Sayhello

Yet, I'm sure they sell plenty of them.

Off the top of my head, I can name several things on a Disney cruise that I've seen others post are a waste of money:

1. Shutters CD for $399
2. Castaway Cay Cabana - $500 (yet on my last two cruises, Platinum and Concierge booked all of them before Gold started booking)
3. Certain Disney sponsored excursions
4. Remy - $75 when the MDR's are "free"?
5. Palo - Even $20 is too much for some.
6. Airfare and travel insurance through Disney
7. Bingo
8. Art Auctions or sales
9. Spa sessions

and even

1 Concierge rooms (we can't justify, but yet many do and I'm not going to criticize them or the person who buys the pillow)
2. Verandah rooms (our favorite, but others say no way and the difference is a whole lot more than $189.)
3. For that matter, any room except a Cat 11C (many think who spends time in their room anyway)
4. A Disney cruise itself (how many threads can you find on this with the search function?)
5. Any cruise regardless of cruise line (I know many who think this)

So yes, we all have different ideas as to what's worth it for us. Yes, $189 is crazy high, but to others any of the above are crazy high. I'm sure others can add a lot more items to this list related specifically to Disney cruises.

Wow - I can't imagine what a pillow would have to do, to justify that price!!

has it come down in price? i'm positive when I sailed last april it was $199. havn't bothered to look at it since but everything in the store was new to me on that sailing as it was only the third sailing of the fantasy so I looked pretty close at everything.
still, $189 is kind of nuts imo for a throw pillow.

I am in no way defending the cost of this pillow, but I do some needlework myself, and I can tell you that the gold thread that is used in the embroidery is a real pain to work with. It breaks and splinters very easily. I am sure this is all machine done, but I bet there are still some issues in getting these manufactured. Again, not defending the cost at all, just saying it didn't seem as unreasonable to me as it might to a lot of other folks. I usually look at things like that as to what it would take me to do it myself, and I would not tackle that one at all. But then, I didn't buy one either.

I might consider it were under $75, but $189 is preposterous. But if its selling at that price, the price will never go down.

Plenty of ppl will buy it. I probably will at some point as a splurge gift to myself. People spend way more on Dooney bags and I completely don't get that at all. Everyone has something they will spend $$ on that someone else wouldn't.

I fell in love with the blue blanket on the Fantasy last week. You can only get it on the ship from housekeeping. It was $220 so I left it on the bed.

It's been $189 dollars on www.Disneystore.com all along. Might have been more on the ship.

We asked the stateroom host if we could buy one but he said no. We totally would of bought one!

:thumbsup2 Exactly!

Purses are a great analogy. Some will spend $20 on a purse, others will spend over a $1,000.

I was curious to see if others sold pillows for $200. A very quick search found a few priced between $150 and $200. I found one over $300, but it was too odd for me.

Here's a couple that I found:

Not saying I would ever spend that on a pillow, but why criticize those that do? I'm sure absolutely everyone spends money on something others will think is ridiculous.
