Good Morning Dawn
So this morning I was catching up on post as kids were eating breakfast. I happen to back track to show my daughter the post about you adventures in Typhoon Lagoon, Well she saw a picture ofTreyner
and she was like STOP WHO IS THAT! I said sorry, He's a little old for you he is a senior and besides he lives in MI. "But he is really cute mommmy" she said. "Yes, dear just don't get the keyboard wet while you drool" I said.
First of all thank you for writing such a detailed experience of your trip...it was awesome and I saved it to my file to look back on...I would love to have your gift of writing. Your kids are beautiful and I like seeing pictures.
Wish i could join the party and meet y'all in December.
Vicki
Treyner is actually a junior this year...but I agree...age difference is not fun...she is closer to Baylor...he is 12...does not sound as glamourous as 17...he is his brothers twin though at the same age...so tell her to think young knowing hope is on the horizon!!Good Morning Dawn

Ya know...I do not think lime green has crossed her lips yet...maybe will have to check that color out...Hi Dawn - I'm over from the peep thread. I don't mind pictures at all, in fact the more the meerierAt least now when you talk about your kids I know what they look like and they are all beautiful. You couldn't talk DD into getting lime green rubberbands for her braces, too bad.
I love the story of the short eating bum!
I thought it was bad when I was 12 and my mom had to pull a splinter the length of a toothpick out of my butt. I slid across the picnic table seat...ouch! Never again. I feel for this girl! Yikes! The other part to Heidi and her @ss...
is that when she was in 8th grade...she was home sick...her mom who is a nurse was home as well...and Heidi took a shower....felt a little dizzy...sat on the tub edge...
RIGHT ON A GLASS SOAP DISH!![]()
She stood up...felt wet trickle down her leg...saw it was blood...and called for her mom...
Mom came rushing in to assess the damage...and fainted as she went to lift up Heidi's towel and her entire lower half of her right butt cheek stuck to the towell...
Heidi needed 175 interior stitches and over 100 exterior ones to sew her cheek back on...the dish had cut her right under the butt where it meets your leg..and then went up...
She had to stand in school for a month to wait for it to heal...because when she sat...it would stretch the stitches and kept ripping open...
Makes my rollerblading story seem like a walk in the park don't it!![]()

Thanks...he got no talent from I said the fly...Dawn, it would seem to me, since he's a junior, not a senior, and he's going with a friend, for fun, he could be late to prom. FWIW.
(I'd think twice about leaving the dad in charge.)
Adding, this super talented kid, good problem to have.
The Grand March starts at 4...kids need to be there at 3:30...I think we will go early to the game..talk with the scouts before if we can...I'm with Lyz. Let him be late to prom. What time do they have to be at prom? Like, before they close the doors? (We had that in high school.) I'd be with him the whole time, talk to coaches if needed, and then just drop him off at prom! He can get showered after the game and change in the car! Just remember to bring the corsage with you!
Hi..I see you...catched any crawdaddies as of late???Hey Dawn.![]()
will do..I agree with my posse, of course! Be late to prom and give the scouts some time....but not ALL of your time. They are salespeople, after all.
Good point...
As for football vs. soccer. A football scholarship to Division I likely won't happen at this point...you would already know it by now (remember, college is my career, so there are some things here that I have inside knowledge of).I thought football scholarships would not be on the table until the season began his senior year??? Smaller schools, absolutely....those will still be coming next season. But the heavy hitters would have already approached by now.
I see what ya mean...
Soccer...division I scholarships are few and far between, as you know. Football scholarships are far more plentiful. It is a financial thing...football programs bring in money, soccer programs do not. Thus, the universities have more football scholarships to give out.
As a professor and academic, I usually vote for students to take a full ride at a non-division I school. They will get a MUCH better education....and 99% of them will need it as they will not be going pro. The pressures of D-I are insane. And academics and education are not even a back seat...they aren't even in the car.![]()
I really think that a NAIA school with scholarship would be the way to start...he can feel out his options as he goes into his Junior year about school and sports...but he would need a competitive team still at that level...
As for which he should play in the fall...what does HE want? That is what should matter. He has to define himself as either a soccer player or a football player. It is amazing that he has made it this far without having to do that (considering they share a season). But now is decision time for HIM.
Honestly...he doesn't know...he has always chosen football in the fall...played soccer year round besides that...now...he has his dreams of his senior year scoring th ewinning touchdown...and thinking of not playing is going to kill him...I think he should just kick for the football team and play soccer for the practices and be dedicated to that...
Don't even think about pro or the European leagues right now. They are not a current reality...deal with that if/when offers come. And the money from the Euro leagues is NOT big. Very small salaries there (except for the Beckham-types). Pro sports are not the same over there as here in terms of salaries. Like 25K for young recruits. Maybe more for someone outstanding.
For Treyner it is not as much about the money...as following a dream and saying he gave it his all...and you are right...that is a ways off still...
As always, feel free to call me if you need to. I am busy this evening, but have time tomorrow morning. I lost your cell...PM me with it again and I can give you a call tomorrow in between meetings.
Thanks,,,he will look so good...just picked up his tux...and I almost cried whne he came out to show me......but he gave me the death stare...so I held it together...Dawn -
I am with Erika on this one... He should be late to the prom so that he can talk to the scouts. I like Erika's suggestion about taking the full ride at an education focused school since that is the safer bet for long term success than a soccer career. The education is the best investment you can make and should be first and foremost on your mind.
Good luck,
Goof
I just realized that I likely wasn't as clear as I could have been.
If you are looking for which sport is the "best bet" for a scholarship at a "big name" school, I would still say soccer (even though football scholarships are more plentiful). He is a goalie....they are rare and always in demand.
That is what I am hearing...
As a wide receiver...I only see that happening at a smaller school (due to Treynor's size). The WRs at schools like Michigan and Notre Dame are ginormous. As a kicker...yeah, he could go anywhere, but then he would be the specialty squad as opposed to the "main" team...and he might not like that.
He is 6'2 and about 185...so as a kicker he is fine...
Now, as for colleges--you said that Trey would rather have a smaller school, Christian background, and dry campus, right? Um...not happening at any D-I school. Sex, drugs, alcohol, and plenty of steroids to go around.![]()
He being a smart @ss...want the shirt to say
"Pucker up and kiss my class."My kid may not drink...but he does have naughty wit...hmmm..where did he get that from???
