The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

Sam, I followed the link and read through (at least part of) the discussion. I agree with the posters who said that breast cancer gets a lot more attention because it's a lot more prevalent. More people are affected by breast cancer (by having it or someone they love having it), and therefore it makes sense that more people would donate to that cause. People tend to donate to those causes that affect them personally. I know that DH and I do.

I also agree with the poster who suggested that breast cancer research may uncover keys to treating/curing other cancers. :thumbsup2

So while we do get bombarded by a sea of pink in October, I'm OK with that. I can see where it could be a bit disturbing to someone fighting the fight, though, a barrage of "Cancer! You have cancer!" when you just want to forget for a few minutes.

I've thought of getting my mom some really nice piece of jewelry or some of the other products they have, but hesitated because I wasn't sure if she'd appreciate that, or would it be a constant reminder to her of this thing hanging over her like a black cloud? I still don't know. So I haven't. :confused3

How about getting her something for her Cancerversary? But not anything necessarily with the pink ribbon on it. Just something to celebrate her survivorship, not necessarily remind her of cancer. Does that make sense? Her cancerversary will be the day she was diagnosed, bet she never forgets that date. Mine was August 14th. Of course I also refer to it as the day I got hit by a freight train doing 900MPH! Because that's what it felt like.

I have a lot of pink ribbon things that I very rarely wear. Don't know why, but I just don't. I do have a couple of pink "survivor" t-shirts from the Races that I sometimes wear. Whenever I wear them it seems like another survivor will always come up and talk to me...it's really kind of a kinship, pick me up, type of thing.

Usually I think I have a pretty good handle on things, but even I have to admit that October can be difficult. Sometimes the displays at the store are so overwhelming that I will start to cry. Not even sure why it affects me that way, but it does. I think it's because after being a cancer survivor you try very hard to put it all behind you (as much as you can) and get on with a normal life. You can handle the little displays of breast cancer things throughout the year, but October is like having all your worst fears brought back to the surface in 20 foot towering displays of corn flakes! All of us want to say we are the Survivors, but the reality is that about 15-25% of us are going to die from this and we really try to tuck it in the back of our mind and just doing something as normal as grocery shopping and BOOM! there's a can of breast cancer cat food staring you in the face letting you know that breast cancer still kills.

Oh and for a funny breast cancer story...I was at the Clark Skamania Flyfishing Club meeting a couple of weeks ago. Mainly a bunch of older men. Anway, as I was signing up for a net building class, a guy walks up and starts talking to the guy in line behind me. "Hey Arnie, haven't seen you in a while, how are things going?...Pretty good Bob, Pretty Good!...Any good fishing lately?...Nope, been kind busy, my wifes BEEN DOING THAT CANCER THING ya know...Sorry to hear about that, well let me know when she's done having cancer so we can plan a trip or something...:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Gotta love those old guys!

Got sidetracked there. Just popped on for a minute to give you all some good news!

My sister called today and she is the proud new owner of an 18yo autisic man. Yep, she got the Florida guardianship papers for Tyler today and everything is now legal.:thumbsup2

AND she heard back from the State caseworker...apparently Medicaid is now investigating PM for fraud. Don't know the specifics, but it appears that his money may have been mishandled or she's not able to give a full accounting for his monthly expenditures on his personal money. Not anything that my sister did or complained about, but apparently the State of Oregon is looking into things as they promised.:thumbsup2

Lord, I feel like a really bad daughter. I don't even know when that is! She didn't tell us right away, only right before she went in for surgery because then it would be obvious something was wrong, I suppose. :headache:

It is a good idea, though, especially just having it be something special, but not pink or bc-related. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Oh my gosh. That's one of those hilariously awful things! :rotfl2:

Yay for your sister and Tyler! :woohoo:
It still stuns me that she even HAD to go through all that. :sad2:

And OH MY GOSH for the fraud investigation! I kinda wondered if there was something like that going on with the underhanded way she acted to keep Tyler. WOW!

I sure hope they find nothing amiss, but if they do, I hope she rots in jail. That is just reprehensible! :sad2:

Good morning, hyenas!
Ummm... Not sunny. But not rainy, either! :thumbsup2

GEESH, not in this economy! Guess we ought to be grateful for all the OT our DHs work. Makes me feel a little guilty for when I griped about it.

Not that I intend to STOP griping about it forever, mind you. But I am definitely grateful DH has a job. ::yes::
I know... right. When the strike started, they immediately cut all over time. Not realizing that Boeing, and all the other companies they contract with were still going to need the parts. So now they have a few machines that are really backed up... Back to the over time fellas!!!:cool1: :cool1:

Sometimes I dont realize how much he makes on over time. We do fine with out it, but right now, having that extra really helps. With Christmas coming.. 2 more babies coming.. I SURE WOULD feel a lot better with a nice buffer, you know?

Ugh... The babies are driving me nuts. It is such an odd feeling. Like they are disco dancing or something. Frelan and I were chatting about something, and one of the babies made a nudgy or something.. I looked down, because the movement is generally not so pronounced.. then I squished back.. and he squished back!:lmao: :lmao:

I cant wait until they get bigger and REALLY start moving! :goodvibes

Exactly like it. I dont care who talks to me.. just TALK to me!;)

How was your day??? popcorn::

Glad I can meet your high standards.:rotfl2:

Well lets see...I made a 3:30 run to Brewed Awakenings...Sugar cookie with pink frosting and small milk for my boss...vanilla latte and coffee cake for me. I REALLY needed caffeine, got back to the office sat my coffee down on the reception desk, took about 3 steps and it dumped over. I was so desperate I almost slurped it up off the floor.:lmao: So that's how my day was.

So how was your day? Sounds like the babes are shakin' their groove thing.:thumbsup2

What was funny was when I hollered the S word as it dumped. My boss was cracking up. It was a huge mess, all over the countertop on the reception area, dripping down onto the carpet, onto the printer (still works), soaked a notebook full of paperwork, worked it's way underneath the desk blotter and then puddled onto the plastic chair mat about 5 feet away from the original spill. Guess next time I'll ask for a drink carrier.:thumbsup2 Plus I was just too tired to go back and get another one. So I just sat and sulked and ate my coffee cake.

Good lord yes. Sometimes I dnt know how I am going to make it another 20 weeks. :lmao:

This morning I was craving a burger. A GOOD burger, not cheap fast food. SO I told my husband if he didnt take me out to the Ram I would stab him in the eye. He jumped up and grabbed his shoes, dressed Mikalah, and off we went! Then we went to Target, and got each of the kids a little something. Alex got some Pokemon cards, and Mikalah a princess doll.. Then we came home.. He went to bed. Alex got home from school, got excited about the cards. Then i was hungry again. GO FIGURE! :lmao:

We went to BK, and then back to Target.. I bought a new bra, and a book.. Now... I am tired. I really didnt do much today, but DANG. I feel like a ran freaking marathon.

Wow. That ws longer then I had expected. :lmao: OH! And I voted!! My first time voting for a President. Okay... and I voted for Shawn Bunney, because he has a porn star name. I know. I couldnt help it though. :flower3:

Life is good...just made a deal with DH...I've traded my special something later tonight for a giant bowl of popcorn!:lmao: Think I should have held out and demanded Kool-Aid to go with it??;)
